It by itself does not do much damage, but when in a group, it can seriously damage your HP. To deal with this, circle around the boss while damaging it. The minions should not be able to hit you, as you have a higher SPD. Once you destroy the boss, shoot at the minions while running and you should be able to kill them all while taking little to no damage.
