Giant Oryx Chicken

Giant Oryx Chicken

The Giant Oryx Chicken is an April Fool’s Day-centric boss which temporarily replaces Oryx the Mad God within Oryx’s Chamber during the start of the month of April.

The Realm Eye says:
Seeking a way to weaken Oryx remotely, the wizards and sorcerers of the Nexus came together to reverse engineer pet-stasising magic for use against the Mad God.
The project was a success, but since transformative magic requires such immense energy, the spell can only be activated once a year for a brief period of time.
Oryx is still a remarkable gladiator even in this form, but due to his secret fear of chickens, this ordeal is deeply traumatizing for him.

Behavior

The Giant Oryx Chicken starts off as an egg in the middle of Oryx’s Chamber, which will crack and start the boss battle once it takes 100,000 (+20% [20,000 HP] per player in Dungeon) damage. In true Oryx fashion, it will frequently go invulnerable.

The boss will advance through these phases in order as it receives more damage.

Phase 1
The Chicken wanders around firing small pink dots sporadically along 45 degree intervals. It fires aimed 3-round shotguns of Rainbow Blasters at the nearest player.

Phase 2
The boss spawns in several Chickens, and throughout the fight it will respawn those that are killed. It then begins to fire wide, 2-directional shotguns of pink dots at a constant rate. These shotguns slowly rotate clockwise, sweeping the area.

Phase 3
The Chickens change their behaviour. The boss begins to slowly chase players while firing wide shotguns of Rainbow Ballers along the cardinal directions (2 at a time).

Phase 4
All Chickens revert back to original behaviour. The Giant Oryx Chicken wanders around firing wide shotguns of rainbow stars along 2 of the cardinal directions and smaller, slower shotguns of giant rainbow stars along the other 2. Both types inflict confuse, but the bigger one deals twice the damage and confuse duration.

Phase 5
Chickens enter new behaviour stage. The boss begins to rapidly chase players while firing massive shotguns of the confusing small stars and rainbow blasters.

Death
The Giant Oryx Chicken turns invulnerable, stops, and explodes into a ring of feather bullets (they deal 0 damage though). All existing Chickens despawn.

See behavior for Chickens for more info about it’s minions.

Tips and Strategies

Despite being able to deal very heavy damage, the Giant Oryx Chicken is a rather easy solo if you can strafe and weave between shots. Granted, it may take some time, but the guaranteed defense and attack drop makes it worthwhile.

History

Previously, while it is active, it did not drop a Locked Wine Cellar Portal. During the April 2015 event, the Giant Oryx Chicken stayed for a couple of days and therefore, the white bag drops became more common than if it was for one day.

For April Fool’s Day 2017, the chicken returned and dropped a new vanity sword, the Apocalypse Feather, in addition to the Chicken Leg of Doom and Anatis Staff. In addition, the boss now dropped a Locked Wine Cellar Portal.
