here’s the reason why sub is objectively superior to dub:

The longer it gets, the more formulaic it becomes.

Only manga to avoid this that I know of is Kingdom, but since it’s based on historical events it doesn’t count.

The human mind can only produce finite amounts of combinations- and the longer you make your show the more unique combinations are needed.

But as the show runtime extends, the available combinations are drained and the show becomes formulaic as the show recycles already used ideas.

#908

You could also add that mass-producing manga chapters or anime episodes makes it impossible to take the time and plan some grand narrative, meaning things have to be kept simple.

And then you also have the problem of fans wanting you to keep a certain status quo and generally having a negative response towards significant changes.

for s2 you can expect 2 overpowered antagonists (one is webcomic only atm), and the introduction of some omnipotent being, although nothing is known about it atm.

everything known about said omnipotent being with minimal spoilers

not much is known about it, but i must start with a villain named “homeless emperor,” who’s basically a homeless guy with some special powers and wears a cape and a crown. he’s a dragon-level being who received all his power from the omnipotent being. the fact that the being in question is able to give and take power equivalent to dragon-level might imply that it’s god-level, but there has been literally nothing to go on besides a single conversation it had with homeless emperor.

here's some fights to look forward to, with some spoilerish stuff, nothing plot wise

flashy flash vs [spoiler lol]
watchdog man vs [spoiler lol]
saitama vs [spoiler lol]
atomic samurai vs a large bodybuilding rhino
genos vs my nibba sonic
tatsumaki vs saitama (webcomic)
saitama uses “serious table flip” (webcomic)

if you don’t want to look at the list, all ima say is that s1 is going to be child’s play

in the webcomic, saitama fights tatsumaki, although it’s not important at all to the plot nor is it particularly exciting so ig i’ll put it here.

the outcome

saitama literally does nothing and tatsumaki exhausts herself

Huh…I’m having a harder time remembering the events at the end of the show than I should be having so didn’t even question it

So I looked into more and figured out that this specific key visual is for the 2nd recap movie.

I do remember seeing that a S2 was confirmed a little while back though \o/

Thanks for taking the time to write about it, would rather experience it all when it eventually airs tho

Speaking of formulaic anime… Finally started watching Mushishi, been putting it off for years. It’s a damn beautiful show.

While I’m not really a fan of episodic anime, the individual stories in each episode are all really interesting in their own way. I also really love the unique atmosphere the show manages to create.

It’s some good shit for anyone interested in checking it out.

#914

shit, i think i had mushishi on my watchlist at some point, i should really get to watching it.

sorry about the opm thing btw, but both the webcomic and the manga have me hella hyped for when they finally animate the stuff. dw too much as i barely scratched the surface; i’d say you should expect at least 24 episodes, as the first season only covered the first 30-odd chapters, while s2 is quite possibly going into the one hundreds and overall is much, much more content/plot heavy.

#915

Would the OPM manga be something you’d recommend over other manga to someone who hasn’t really read any at all?

If so I think I’ll try to start reading it soon, if not…any recommendations you might have would be appreciated

I’ve slowly started reading some of my friends recommendations over the past few weeks: read(finished) Punpun, started Tokyo Ghoul and Kaguya Wants to be Confessed To

And plan to read: Jojo, Berserk

That’s pretty much all the manga I know about rn lmao

#916

probably not. the art and story are pretty good, but the problem lies in the fact that the updates are very irregular, ranging from a 2 week wait to a 3 month wait. if you are reading a lot of other manga, then it’s a good one to be watching, however. aot is in the same boat, roughly updating at the same times.

jojo is still going, and it’s a fairly solid pick, although it’s extremely long with 925 chapters and counting. berserk is basically finished and it’s pretty good; 357-odd chapters iirc, although the waits between chapters are very, very long.

if you haven’t read the manga, heroaca is a solid pick since it’s still fairly short in comparison to other mangas, and you still have time to catch up. hxh manga is still going, although the entire story is getting extremely confusing so it may not be the best.

seven deadly sins is alright but has some aspects that may not appeal to some, like overdone cringy romance on the side.

popular stuff that you should not read are as follows:

  • unironic 21st century isekai series
  • fairy tail (hot repetitive garbage)
  • naruto/one piece (too long, naruto finished at 700 chapters and one piece is at 900 chapters and is a little over halfway through)
  • most shonen (unless you’ve heard seriously good stuff about them, it’s best to just avoid them because they get repetitive and very long. even relatively shorter ones might hit multiple hundreds of chapters.)

#917

The good thing about JoJo is that every arc is fairly self-contained. It feels like a series of stories rather than an insanely long one that drags on forever.

Wasn’t everyone praising ReZero at some point? I mean it looks like it’s just fantasy Higurashi (in the sense of “hey let’s reset the entire world every 2 episodes or so just to make all the torture porn even more gratuitous!”) but I’ve never really given it a try.

#918

they have the same obnoxious theme for every time something ominous happened which really annoyed me so i dropped it pretty early on. the premise seemed all right though, but that’s how it is with most isekais so i can’t really judge.
