History of the Realm {WIP}

Ogre War Era(0-30 AL)

Somewhere around the 10th century: First humans arrive to the Realm, mainly consisting of knights, priests, rogues, chefs, etc. Mainly European/Caucasian population

  • Humans establish settlements along the shore of the beach
  • First guilds are established

Few months after landing, hobbits make contact with humans

  • Alliance is formed

Reluctant alliance with elves are also formed due to connections with hobbits

  • Humans get involved with ogre wars
    • Ogres and Cyclopes had dominion over the mountains
    • Humans, Elves, Hobbits, and Dwarves lived closer to the Midlands
    • Magi, up to this point, stayed neutral
      • Magi: Sorcerers and Wizards, inherently magical

Elves had magic, but weren’t as strong as the magi

  • Priests learn healing magic, but most shunned it for being ‘unholy’

Around 15 years AL (after landing) Cyclopes lead an attack group on what they thought to be elves but were a group of magi in the Highlands

  • Human scout group were nearby, fends off most of the attack

  • Magi allies with the humans

Magi teach humans magic

  • Mystics: humans that learned magic
  • Weapons of warriors, knights, and paladins were enchanted
    • Weapons for rogues, tricksters, and assassins were not meant to be enchanted, but certain bribes made wizards enchant cloaks, prisms, daggers, etc.

Ogre God lived in what is now Oryx’s castle, at the peaks of the mountains

  • Cyclops god castles were located as the first line of defense along the foot of the mountains
  • Many ogre troops lead by minor ogre kings in the highlands
  • Mountains had few monsters other than ogres and cyclopes
  • Castle was heavily fortified

25 years AL, magi, elves, hobbits, dwarves, and humans lead an assault on the Ogre God’s castle

  • Elves were primary leaders

  • Ultimately successful with the new addition of destructive spells and weapons such as the Scorching Blast spell

Territorial disputes over the land

  • Dispute over who would rein the castle
    • Elves thought since they had led the assault they should get it
    • Humans thought they deserved a piece of land to themselves instead of living with elves because of their help
    • Hobbits didn’t really care and went back to the lowlands & beach
    • Dwarves said they had the land first before the ogres came
    • Magi said they made the technology to make the attack successful
  • Nobody ended up possessing the castle, deemed neutral territory
    • Magi got the catacombs near the castle
      • Half lived in the catacombs
      • Other half decided to ally with the humans
    • Dwarves didn’t get anything
    • Elves didn’t get anything
    • Humans got land around the edge of the mountains

Oryx’s Dominion(400 AL - 450 AL)

350 AL

  • Humans had built a kingdom starting from the foot of the mountains and moving further inland

    • Several structures around the foot of the mountains showed signs of attempts for settlements, but were quickly outgrown
      • Some near the kingdom were used as guild halls
  • Hobbits settled in the beaches and lowlands and made use of the early shelters humans had built

  • Magi built a lair in the catacombs

  • Human governor attempts to secede from the Kingdom

    • Using only archers, the rebellion lasted only a few years and was quickly suppressed
    • Ghost of the ‘king’ haunts the remains of the one tower still remaining of his land

Oryx Gains Power, 400 AL

  • Early experiments in the catacombs led to the creation of a mighty being called “Oryx” with a mysterious force from a different dimension
    • The failed experiment also corrupted a great deal of captured rogues and criminals from the realm
    • Could bestow some of his power onto others, creating literal gods
    • Had the same power as Mystics, but amplified: he could seal away entire areas into a “pocket realm”, or a dungeon, indefinitely.
  • Oryx leads his army of corrupted prisoners into the Ogre Castle

Second Assault Against the Castle

  • Elves and Dwarves put aside their differences from the territory dispute to ally against the new threat against the Realm
  • Humans deny to ally, lives in isolation in their kingdom
  • Hobbits do not want involvement
  • Magi become reclusive after their failed experiment got loose
  • Elves and Dwarves greatly underestimate the power of Oryx, thought it to be just a small rebellion
    • Oryx easily fends off Elves and Dwarves
    • Oryx begins conquest of the Realm

Attempt against the Humans

  • Oryx launches an attack against humans
  • Retreated swiftly, for the combined might of knights, warriors, paladins, and mystics were too much

Conquerment of the Dwarves

  • Underground kingdom, which was closest to the mountains, were conquered first, and were much weaker than the humans

Conquerment of the Elves

  • As Oryx’s forces moved further and further outland, Elves attempted to build up a line of defense
  • Ultimately failed, and the hobbits that were at the very edge of the realm were also put under Oryx’s rule. However, they surrendered willingly.
  • Magi sealed off their catacombs with powerful magic, so Oryx could not find them

Catacombs release a new batch of horrors from experiments. Magi open up rifts in the Realm allowing Gods (Slime Gods, Medusas, ETC) to be released into the mountains.

Although Oryx ruled with an iron fist, his conquered people were happy and the realm prospered.

  • Oryx was revered as a hero and king
  • Defeated rogue monsters that had been bound to land by curses such as Lord Rutherven in his Manor and sealed him away
  • Defeats the Crystal Prisoner, a ghost that terrorized the mountains, and seals him in a crystal
  • Brought to justice the infamous Pirate Brothers Bilgewater and Dreadstump
    • Created the Hermit God to keep Dreadstump at bay
    • Binds the pocket dimension of Bilgewater to the Crystal Prisoner
  • Many of the threats in the Realm were neutralized and sealed away in dungeons
  • Built up a court full of advisors and entertainers like the Puppet Master

Tyranny begins

  • Alas, all good things must come to an end
  • 30 years into the reign, a strange madness takes hold of Oryx
    • Fires all of his advisors
    • Shaitan fills the position
      • Masterminds all of the later decisions Oryx will do
    • Turns to the extensive wine cellar left from the Ogre God’s private cellar
  • Frees several pocket realms
    • Rutherven is freed again.
    • Bilgewater is not freed as his pocket dimension is bound to a physical entity that can only open it up when he is killed
    • Hermit God guards the pocket dimension of Dreadstump
    • However, pocket realms cannot be freed completely
      • They cannot go back to being physical places in where they once were before
      • Instead, they can only be entered through portals

Fall of the Human Kingdom

  • Twilight Archmage
    • Built up a defense in case Oryx attacked
    • Would essentially trap themselves in a pocket dimension intentionally
    • Unfinished prototype could only seal the Archmage’s chambers, the King’s Castle, and part of the kingdom in front
      • Also could not have a way to come out of the pocket
    • Pocket dimension wasn’t perfect, still had a breach where it could be entered(a portal)
      • If anyone got too close to the pocket dimension, an avatar of the King would attempt to defend it
  • Corruption of the Mage
    • The mage exhibits signs of the same madness that gripped Oryx
      • Recognizes the symptoms, comes from experimenting too much with void magic, which allows creation of pocket dimensions
      • Realizes he has doomed the entire kingdom by allowing void magic to seep into the kingdom itself
    • Activates the defense protocol to seal in the corruption before it further spreads
      • Takes most of the royal guards and mages
  • Defenseless villagers around the palace quickly fall to Oryx, who swept in as soon as the castle disappeared
    • Various knights, warriors, priests, etc scattered across the realm
  • Realm is plunged into the Dark Era
  • Continue making
  • No

wait so do you want this thread or…

this thread to be open? Don’t see much point in having two of them out.

The lore surrounding the Crystal Prisoner is incorrect. I think the Eye Ball said the Crystal Prisoner was the queen of the Shatters, but after the King was corrupted by the Void Entity, the queen was smuggled out by some of the King’s royal guards after they realized the King was corrupted. Oryx intercepted her and her steeds, and sealed her in a crystal made out of the gems she was carrying from her period of royalty. The Eye Ball goes on to speculate that the Crystal Prisoner was likely under the influence of the Void Entity despite the effort to stop this from happening.
