They could say that the goods have a value, as established by the RWT sites. But it does not matter – they would find it very hard to go after the resellers. I did a quick search and some seem larger than just ROTMG, catering for other games. They only got that way if other bigger game companies were unable to shut them down. I am sure in many parts of the world such services are perfectly legal, so all the firms need to do is make sure they are set up in such a country.
Is it legal to sell my account?
Again: what goods? The only things a RWT shop can sell you are parts of a service (item selling) or specific access points to a service (account selling).
To go back to my previous post, the game companies won’t have to do a thing if the RWT sites get into actual crimes like fraud and money laundering: at that point it’s a penal issue, not just a civil one.
Point is, if you absolutely want to sell your in-game account or items you’re much better off doing it yourself and to someone you already know and trust. The more hoops you jump through the more potential bullshit you could have coming your way.
How this go from a simple question to a full blown discussion based on the WORDING Basically just don’t, but no one’s stopping you and DECA can’t stop you or even punish you if you truly quit. On the flip side if the site or person you’re selling to is a front for somethi
ng illegal you’re fucked.
On that cheerful note, someone make a discussion thread about the legality of RWT, move most of the replies there, and close this one that’d be appreciated.
Because the biggest hurdle in discussions about RWT and cheating is always wording and poorly understood concepts.
Just because a thread changes topic, does not mean you should close threads and form new ones. We are still on the general discussion of RWT, of which this thread delved into by proxy. It is a waste of URL indexing and moderator’s time to split threads every single time a thread evolves. Now, if the discussion turned into how to best produce lemonade in Lemonade Tycoon 2, then yes, splitting the thread would be relevant. However, this is not the case, and the thread should be left alone to organically die.
But why would they?
I mean drug dealers, say, need money laundering as they deal with large amounts of cash, dubiously obtained. Once you have to bank more than a few thousand dollars people start asking questions. Money laundering bypasses that. They funnel the cash to a retailer or retailers – a small shop say – who books it as sales, takes a cut, then bank the money after which it can be transferred or wired to its eventual beneficiary.
RWT sites neither deal in massive amounts of money nor deal in cash. They have absolutely no need for money laundering. Nor have they any need to defraud someone. In fact it’s in their interest to be trustworthy, to make sure that anyone paying them gets their goods.
Yo WTF you can attach PDFs? I think that’s the first time this has been used on the forums.
DECA won’t sue you or anything. It’s a couple hundred bucks at most.
Now, if you run a RWT “company” or just in general service in sorts, if it gets REALLY big they can sue you. IIRC, some runescape botter who sold bots made millions, then they got sued and went 1.5 mil into debt. Because it’s worth it.
From google:
On average , getting it wrong cost plaintiffs at about $43,000; the total could be more because information on legal costs was not available in every case
Spending 43,000+ dollars for 300 dollars? That’s gonna literally kill the game LOL. Now, spending 43000+ dollars to make 6 mil (since the botter didn’t technically steal real money)? STONKS
And of course, all of this is bannable, so RWT at your own risk.
Completely off topic but this reminded me of this video and it’s a pretty damn interesting video
