Very close, but not exactly. Every mod has the Leader trust level, but there is at least one person at the Leader trust level who is not a mod.

Remember, being a moderator doesn’t make you a forum knight or a forum deputy, it makes you a forum janitor. As a result, wanting the job because of “status” makes you fundamentally ill-suited for the role.

You can do that exactly where you are right now: be a mature upstanding forum participant, answering people’s questions and contributing to discussions. Spend enough time here and you might earn the “Regular” trust level, which will allow you to move threads and do a few “mod-lite” functions.

If we ever need additional mods in the future, behavior like that will always help your chances.
