Uses: Katanas, Headpieces, Heavy Armors

In essence, Headpieces are two abilities in one. They have both a Held effect, and an Activated effect.

The Activated Effect generates a “shield” that spins around the player, blocking shots of enemies for a certain amount of time or until it is destroyed. This will not block piercing shots, of course, nor AoEs, which cannot hit it in return. This can be activated at the same time as the Held Effect.

Shields will always start exactly 1 tile above you based on 0 degrees, at least for the first shield at later tiers. As more shields come into play, they will make either a straight line or a triangle, depending on the tier. They will make a direct circle around you until they are destroyed or disappear, and move based on the speed listed, based on rotations/second. Shields are 1.2x the size of an 8x8 skin.

(These GIFs show shields working mostly as intended! Be sure to check them!)
https://i.imgur.com/64gssnc.gifv https://i.imgur.com/RKKQ4Vk.gifv

(Not being centered is a small oversight for now.)

The Held Effect, on the other hand, will grant a Defense bonus to the player as well as nearby allies. You can hold this down after you have already used your Activated Effect.

With each progressing tier, Shields will have more Health to start out with as well as more Defense, and will gain more with the more Wisdom you have. They will also move around the user faster, based on one full rotation around the player, with the Max Duration of them being higher at later tiers. Later tiers will also have more than a single Shield, which will prove useful if used correctly. Due to this, though, the MP Cost quickly rises.

With each progressing tier, the Held Effect will grant bonus Defense to allies in a larger area based on their tier, with more Defense being given based on the Tier being used. It will always cost the same amount of MP per second.

Untiered shields, however, will grant different bonuses for their Held Effect and will have special properties for their Activated Effect’s shields. There are four UT headpieces for this class, as well as an ST headpiece that comes with its set, all of which utilize the versatility of the Shield’s function.

Unless stated, all shields will have a cooldown relative to how long their shields stay up. This means you cannot activate your ability again until all shields either disappear or are destroyed. This is mainly to prevent spamming.

To show when a shield is about to disappear, all shields will flash much like portals and loot bags do. This is to make sure that casualties do not happen because of the inability to count the seconds a shield has been up.

Note: Default cooldown is when all shields are destroyed or disappear. If a different time is listed, it is added onto the default time unless stated.

Note 2: MP Heal is disabled during your Held Effect.

Drops from the Marble Colossus

This headpiece is meant to be a stationary defense rather than one that follows you. Because of this, it can provide protection to other players besides yourself in a very beneficial way, since they do have the highest Health of all shields. It also lasts less time than tiered shields, and while it only gives 15 Defense for its Held Effect, it starts within 3 squares.

Upon using this Headpiece, it will spawn the pillar and the shields around the pillar at the same time. They will stand 1 tile away from the pillar at all times, and will only circle the pillar, nothing else. Once all of the shields are destroyed, the pillar will be as well, enabling the cooldown. (This is the only shield that is bigger than the others, at 1.5x the size. Pillar stays the same size as with Marble Seal.)

Drops from Stone Guardian

This headpiece used to be known as “Crusader’s Headpiece".

This headpiece is a special kind of unique.

Its activated effect does not immediately spawn a sort of protection; instead, it will fire one non-damaging projectile towards the cursor until it disappears or hits something, and upon hitting an enemy, you will summon three statues to circle your target.
Until all three statues are around your target in a triangular formation, they will be invulnerable and do nothing. Once they have reached their positions, even if moving, one of them will chant one of these lines:
“For the emperor!”
“The emperor reigns supreme!”
“For {player name}!”
They will then begin to circle the enemy for one second while invulnerable. After that one second, they will all fire one red bolt (as seen above) at the marked enemy and Slow it for one second. They will be vulnerable for 5 seconds, and if they are not killed then, they will repeat this process.
Upon death, they will do a number of actions, as listed above. They curse the target for 1.5 seconds, heal the other statues, and heal all nearby allies for 60 HP. The others will then move 6 speed faster and begin their phases again after being “stationary" for 2 seconds.
Its held effect is also a mixed effect. It makes you quicker, still gives defense to group, and also gives health to the group. This may prove to be fairly handy in some situations.

You only have a 15 second cooldown for this ability, rather than it stacking with the cooldown of shields disappearing, due to their persistence until death.

This headpiece does something that no other headpiece will do for its Activated Effect: it negates pierce. This can be a big change in defending, though it comes with a drawback: the shields will be much farther out than the others, at twice the distance, and though they have more health, they have zero defense. This can be either beneficial or detrimental, depending on how its used. It also gives Wisdom in its Held Effect radius rather than Defense, which can help other classes, and it makes you immune to any status effect while hindering your movement and firing speed.

Upon using the Mechanical Generator, both of the shields will spawn 2 tiles from the user rather than one. Because of this, there is much more open area between you and these two shields.
Note: This also applies to the Sukuinishi No Okurimono, as they have the same stance.

Drops from Gulpord the Slime God

This headpiece was inspired by the idea by @Disisstupi, where rather than blocking shots or shooting projectiles at enemies, it leaves behind a trail much like the Slimes in the Toxic Sewers. It carries the effect of the Golden Slime, since the Brown Slime’s effect would do nothing to enemies. It’ll be hard to land every single one of the trail pieces on an enemy unless you perfectly circled them, so it doing too much damage isn’t an issue. It also swaps out a stat bonus on the Held Effect to instead give Slowed to any enemy that is nearby, making this more tactical.

This headpiece is much more focused on being priest-like than much else. It’s still able to defend, but its main focus is healing nearby allies. It also stands 2 tiles from the user, making it so that it’s more likely to heal allies than yourself as to prevent abuse. Its Held Effect also gives healing and Vitality to allies and yourself, and makes yourself immune to Blind and Darkness, which can be very helpful when they’re present.

Special Thanks:

Demaratus, for sparking the idea of having shields flash to indicate when they are going to disappear.
Ladoodee, for suggesting a new Tier 6 description as well as inspiring the crisper descriptions that the tiered headpieces have. Too bad I scrapped it.
DarkDaemon, for talking about the Defense equivalent to the Knight, which inspired me to balance out the Defense values.
TannerLG, for suggesting the base Defense be changed to 25(despite being changed later and then changed back now) and for suggesting the decrease of Shield base health.
Wink, who pointed out the fact Shogun is a title rather than an actual fighter type. Too bad it got changed back.
MarchStar, for translating the ST set name for me, as well as a suggestion for the descriptions of the Seigi No Ha and Headpiece of Resilience and the new Seigi No Ha shot.
Atrapper, for suggesting to change it to a Leather class. (Along with the others who voted for it in the poll.) Too bad it’s Heavy again.
Harryvvvvv, who inspired the shield reduction and removal of Shield Defense’s Wis mod.
DreadHerod, for the new Kami no Yoroi description and the new Mechanical Generator description. Too bad Generator’s is ditched.
Disisstupi, for giving the idea of the Headpiece of the Slime Lord.
Pepus and the RotMG Ideas Discord, for helping with the newer and better ST items.

#3

We good now, you can actually see it.

#4

[/b]

You may want to format it similar to this to indicate important parts and easier reading.

I’m assuming these ones are “When Key Held” and “When Key Released”.

Woah.

I like this concept of ability entities displaying text.

I like the look of the sprite for this and the stats seem balanced too.

Good job, all-in-all. I like the sprites, very fond of them.

What a way to return

#5

Oops on me for that bad formatting. I’ll fix it.

The formatting suggestion looks good, and I’ll definitely use it.

Not the same here for Held and Activated. Both can be used at the same time, and they both activate at the same time as well(if no shields are present).

don’t ask xd

Not too spammy but still something is just what I found neat, glad you like it.

Thanks! They’re a little reduced from before, but extra RoF was added, so I’m glad it’s still balanced.

Thanks for the feedback.

I know, but the likelyhood of them being added is quite small, I mean T7’s haven’t been released yet so I doubt we’ll get T8’s any time soon.

Sadly , names are incorrect in some parts . Seigi No Ha does not mean Righteous Blade but actually Justice Edge.

Japanese to English acts really weird vs English to Japanese.

Yea, a lot of catches are in Japanese . I think you took names from Google Translate as you know… they are usually incorrect from Gtranslate .

gave it a like just because of the amount of work it seemed to have. although i didnt read a single thing!

nvm. here im taking my like back. wtf did they change it so i cant unlike it anymore?

#18

well maybe you should read it nerd

#19

This is actually pretty dang awesome. I’ve also seen another popular new class idea that utilizes an activated ability to rotate around the player and increase defense - The Occultist, I believe - but this one seems to be quite well thought through as well.

You went up to… T8?!

Hope this gets more attention.

#20

Has anyone mentioned that the shogun looks like the reindeer warrior skin fused with a samurai?

#21

People have mentioned that skin, yes, multiple times. Not much you can do with something like this.

The original was made before the Samurai, however. You may look if you want, old threads exist.
