Wildshadow Art Contest

#1

does anyone know anything about a wildshadow art contest, possibly in 2010, possibly called the ‘summer art contest’? thanks!

#2

For a second I thought Wildshadow was somehow hosting an Art Contest.

Haven’t you heard about the war going on right now? WildShadow is trying to reclaim RotMG because it became so popular.

I’m kidding, by the way. I feel like I constantly have to remind people.

Would be before my time, but I can suggest something:

The WS forums, at least the front page, are kinda browsable through the Wayback Machine:
Example page from August 2011: https://web.archive.org/web/20110802195736/http://forums.wildshadow.com/forum/realm-mad-god

^That’s the main game discussion link, there’s also the Ideas subforum, where I guess it could’ve been too:
https://web.archive.org/web/20110805064237/http://forums.wildshadow.com/forum/24
(edit: although it looks like the Ideas subforum only came into existence in 2011)

You can browse through time by changing the date at the top, to view what topics were on the front page on various dates, it gets a bit uglier with the layout as you go back in time, or if you click through onto a topic (must depend on how the page was archived). But might yield a result.

Edit2:
I couldn’t see anything resembling it on the Forum’s Datum: https://web.archive.org/web/20130430134856/https://forums.wildshadow.com/node/198296
(This was maintained by Sven(Seven) as a choice of the best/interesting forum threads.)

Nor was there anything apparent on McFarvo’s Suggested Reading/Noteworthy Links: https://web.archive.org/web/20130501220538/https://forums.wildshadow.com/node/4583

Nor the Realmanac: https://web.archive.org/web/20130511061734/https://forums.wildshadow.com/node/131042

(& that’s all my bookmarked ‘useful pages’ off the old forums). Good hunting!

ive already combed all of that :wink: ty tho! guess the contest wasn’t bumped enough ;-;

#6

You’re still trying to find it huh

#7

2010 is too early. Rob, Alex, and Amit were still producing much of the game’s base content on a weekly basis in 2010 during the public beta.

In 2011, some sprites were added to the game that were originally created by the community using the pixel art maker?

#8

interesting. thanks!

#9

I only remember the mithril sword and golden sword being added. But I think there were quite a handful more.

Yes @Kalitaio the 2011 Patch Notes make several references to using sprites from the Pixel Editor, for equipment, dyes, sceptres, monsters. Those you mention were from Build 112:

@ToastQuest
Is it possible that the thing being remembered as the contest was a tag used within the Pixel Editor? That was how it functioned, you tagged your creation to make it findable by others.

It’d be a bit surprising if the topic wasn’t on any of the archived pages, since the forums very much were the community, so that would lead me to think it wasn’t there to be found.

Or how certain are you that it was a Wild Shadow thing? Summer 2012 would have been at the height of the Kabam enthusiasm for the game as they took it over (was around here that Realmcasts began to appear, there was an infamous Dress-Up Oryx Catwalk event and suchlike contests under their tenure; some are mentioned on the Events page of the wiki).

well a while ago i had found the original post from the forum for the game contest that realm was made for so I will try and find it when I have the time

#13

I was meaning I would try and find what he was talking about but i appreciate the link nevov

I still don’t think there were any official contests or interactions with the community in 2010. Occasionally one of the game creators would hop on with players, and the forums were a direct line to the as someone’s idea had a high chance of getting put into the game the following patch. My memories from the tigsource to launch of the game is a touch foggy, as I was really awful at the game, and like 11-12 years old.

#15

idk anything from memory of old realm know i dident have a computer 11-12 years ago

#16

thats interesting, it could very well have been contained in the pixel editor. however, i know that one of the sprites was added into game files for a short time, and im trying to find it. im very sure it was wildshadow.
