The Coral Bow is often considered a direct upgrade from the Bow of Covert Havens. This is due to its longer true range than tiered bows (6.35 tiles compared to 4.07 for tiered bows), as well as only slightly less DPS than the Covert when all shots hit. Its higher projectile speed also makes it easier to hit moving targets.
Historically, CBow was often carried in partnership with the Doom Bow - the Doom Bow being used for tackling bosses and high DEF enemies, and the Coral Bow for everything else. As stronger bows came into prominence, this combination was seen less and less - but is still viable to this day. For example, the Thousand Shot has range superior to the DBow (7.59) with slightly higher DPS than the CBow, though is harder to obtain.
Note that the reworked T13 Bow of Mystical Energy, is, in turn, an upgrade from this bow. Hitting 2 of its three shots will deal very similar damage, with a 2-shot true range of 7.04, while doing much better against armor. This doesn’t include the fact that players hitting all 3 shots will clearly deal more damage.
