Avalon the Archivist

Avalon the Archivist is the first boss of the Cursed Library.

Former head of the great atheneum, now a crazed paranoiac trying in vain to protect his collection. They say the pen is mightier than the sword, but in his case the pen IS the sword. - Original Description

The Realm Eye says:
Avalon served as the director of this library. His love of literature was second only to his passion for sharing those works with others.
He did not fall victim to the curse directly, but watching his life’s work be overrun and ruined was enough to break his resolve.
His enthusiasm for sharing intellect evolved into obsessive protection of his collection. Such a wise soul did not deserve this fate.

Behavior

Avalon the Archivist is found in a 3x3 “grid” of rooms, connected by corridors. He has three phases, transitioning to his next phase every time he loses about 1/3 of his max HP.

Phase 1

Taunt: “Stay back! You have no business here!”
Avalon initially stays dormant in the middle of the room. When approached, Avalon will start traversing the room, leaving behind a trail of stationary stars that deal low damage and inflict Slow. Whenever Avalon moves to one of the 9 squares, he leaves behind a Book Bomb that explodes after a short time, doing high AoE damage and inflicting Silenced, while sending out wall-like shockwaves through the hallways that ignore armor and inflict Dazed. The shockwaves will always have one hole where the player can dodge through.

Avalon will always turn 3 times before he returns to the center. His next 3 turns will always be the exact opposite of the 3 turns he took intially, and the movements repeat until enough damage is dealt.. (Eg. If Avalon’s initial 3 turns takes him to the top-left corner, his next 3 turns will take him to the bottom right corner).

Phase 2

Taunt: “Leave me be!”
Retreating into the center of the room, Avalon begins firing shockwaves of his own (visually identical to the ones fired by the Book Bombs, but they do more damage and Stun instead of Daze) down the adjacent four lanes. Every time he does this, he will also fire a radial burst of boomerang fireballs that deals heavy damage and Stuns. While this is happening, he will be throwing more Book Bombs to the outer rooms of the arena, sending shockwaves at himself from all directions.

Phase 3

Taunt: “I cast you off mongrels! Do not tamper with my collection!”
Avalon begins moving between the hallways, stopping every time he reaches a room. When he stops, Avalon will fire his shockwaves along the halls adjacent to him, along with a radial burst of Stunning fireballs. While he does this, he will spawn in Soulless Scribes, Soulless Scholars, and Soulless Students.

While moving, Avalon is Armor Broken, but while stationary, he’ll be Armored instead.

Tips and Strategies

During the first phase follow the boss along the wall to avoid getting slowed or if already affected change course to meet up with the boss. During the 2nd phase stand in the middle of corridors to avoid stunning lines from the exploding books and his explosive bursts while doing as much as you can to the boss.
