Belladonna

Belladonna is the boss of Belladonna’s Garden.

The Realm Eye says:
Belladonna began as an unintentional creation of Dr. Terrible. Once a humble greenhouse plant, a spilled vial gave new life to her roots.
She could now perceive not just human sense, but the agony of every fellow plant being picked, stomped, and disposed of.
Belladonna escaped the lab and swore to avenge every last flower whose life had been cut short. Her resentment towards Valentine’s Day is immeasurable.

Behavior

Belladonna is initially found in a dormant state in the center of her garden. After taking enough damage, she will replenish her health and awaken, beginning the fight.

Phase 1

Taunt: “You dare terrorize my beautiful home!? Begone, insects!”
Belladonna alternates between rapidly circling in place or remaining stationary in the room’s center. During the former, she will fire 4-way streams of spearlike shots along with 4-way shotguns of leaves. During the latter, she will either fire slower rings of leaves and Slowing pink petals, or fire rings of blue berries.

Phase 2

Taunt: “You will be as food to my children!”
Bella throws out 12 Bella Seeds that form a ring around her. The seeds will then sprout and begin circling her, firing slowing pink petals towards her while firing spreads of Sickening spears outside of the ring. These petals alternate between firing directly towards the boss, or firing at an angle so they form a tight ring around the boss before vanishing.

While they are doing this, Belladonna will be throwing out rings of blue berries that explode on impact, dealing AoE damage.

Phase 3

Taunt: “Be consumed by my young!”
Belladonna becomes invulnerable while the sprouted Bella Seeds become vulnerable. The Seeds fire in the same pattern that they did before, but Belladonna will now maintain “beams” of spear shots in an X-pattern, constraining the player’s movement. She will also throw her bombs more frequently and in greater amounts.

All 12 Bella Seeds must be slain to progress the fight. Note that the direction that the ring of Seeds rotates in will frequently change.

Phase 4

Taunt: “Roots, flowers, vines, destroy these villains!”
Belladonna becomes vulnerable and summons a large amount of Red, White, and Yellow Flowers around the map that fire radial shots which have varying effects. Flowers can be destroyed, but will all self-terminate and respawn after some time has passed

She will meanwhile cycle through firing 4-way pairs of spears, 4-way spreads of berries, 4-way spreads of leaves, wide shotguns of spears, and wide shotguns of berries.

Phase 5

Taunt: “You are nothing more than nutriment for my roots!”
Bella begins moving around the map. She alternates between firing rapid pairs of leaves alongside spreads of spears, or Armoring herself and firing dense rings of blue berries. Note that flowers will continue to spawn during this phase.

Phase 6

Taunt: “My thorns will drive you away like the locusts you are!”
Flowers stop spawning and Belladonna spawns 4 invincible Bella Buds that orbit her at various distances, firing multi-directional spear shots. Belladonna herself will be throwing single berry bombs at the player.

Phase 7

Taunt: “I will not be silenced, I will not be destroyed!”
The four Bella Buds position themselves in the corners of the room befoe each firing a 4-way spiral of armor piercing Stunning spear shots that rotates clockwise. The arms of the spirals will sweep across the entire map in a periodic pattern. They will also be firing petals everywhere except in front of themselves. At the same time, Belladonna will be pulsing short-ranged waves of Confusing leaf bullets and releasing a large number of parametric Slowing berry shots.

Phase 8

Taunt: “My children…aid me…”
Belladonna becomes invincible and releases periodic undodgeable waves of Quieting petals. Her and her minions maintain the behavior from the previous phase, but the Bella Buds are now vulnerable. All four must be killed to push Belladonna out of the phase.

Phase 9

Taunt: “YOU WILL NOT LEAVE HERE ALIVE!”
Belladonna begins aggressively lunging at players. Every time she lunges, she will either fire a radial barrage of wavy leaves, a radial barrage of wavy spears, or a storm of pink petals that form either a star-shaped or diamond-shaped formation. Between attacks, she will go briefly invincible and fire a single large spear at the player.

Once she is about to die, Belladonna will launch a desperation attack. Flowers start spawning all around the map again as Belladonna starts aggressively moving around, rapidly throwing rings of AoE berry bombs around her.

When Belladonna dies, all flowers alive despawn.

Tips and Strategies

Belladonna’s most dangerous regular attacks are her AoE blue berries, dealing a whopping 200 damage apiece with a high risk of overlapping to cause even more damage. Priority should be given to avoiding these, alongside the green leaf shots that inflict Confusion.

The flowers summoned by Belladonna are responsible for the vast majority of the deaths in the boss fight, due to the difficulty of seeing them until it’s too late. Sitting on top of any of the flowers will deal high damage, but the Immaculate Red Flowers are the real killers of the dungeon, dealing much higher damage to the point when they can instantly kill many players unfortunate enough to be directly on top of one. They are initially visible as small green dots on the ground, and have a brief blooming animation before they spawn; keep an eye on these dots and get between them once they start to bloom. Killing the flowers will temporarily get rid of them, but their adaptive HP scaling may make it harder in bigger groups.

Arguably Belladonna’s hardest phase is her penultimate one, where the four Bella Buds will form a sweeping network of bullet streams as Belladonna fills the empty space with parametric berries. Players caught in a bad spot will take massive damage from the Buds due to the large number of their armor-piercing shots, and the Stun will also prevent them from fighting back if they continue taking hits. Carefully moving in the gaps between the streams while simultaneously rotating around the map counter-clockwise will allow one to avoid the shot streams, although they’ll still have to look out for Belladonna’s own attacks. Passing through the streams occasionally is doable if you have good HP recovery (less so once Belladonna starts Quieting all players), although beware of the short Stun.
