The Book of Geb is often seen as a much more useful than both the Tome of Holy Guidance and the Tome of Purification because if offers a lot of the abilities that the Tome of Holy Guidance and the Tome of Purification used to boast alone. It gives both Speedy and Healing effects while also having the ability to remove negative status conditions on both the user and allies.
Before the revisions, there was no reason to use either the Tome of Purification or the Tome of Holy Guidance. The power of this tome was simply too much, and outweighed the smaller MP cost of the Tome of Holy Guidance or the slightly higher heals from the Tome of Purification (Extra +4 wisdom on the Tome of Purification gives it a slightly higher heal amount and range).
With the revision to the Book of Geb, however, the book has been brought down much closer to balance, though it’s still very powerful. The glaring differences between its old and new versions include the overall heal amount has dropped by over 100 base amount, the regeneration effect has been lowered to 3 seconds, and the HP and MP boosts given by the tome on equip have been revoked. It’s still preferred by many due to the fact that it’s trade-able and combines the useful effects of both the Tome of Holy Guidance and the Tome of Purification.
