A single Calamity Crab will always spawn in a random location of the Deadwater Docks. It will patrol the dungeon room-by-room in search of players, sometimes cutting across the Dead Water to do so.
If the Calamity Crab comes across a player, it will flash red and immediately chase after them, alternating between several attack patterns at random:
Every once in a while, it will briefly slow down and flash blue.
The Calamity Crab will instantly destroy all solid tiles it comes in contact with while in its chasing mode (signified by a “crushing” sound effect), making it nearly impossible to trap. However, the Calamity Crab will under no circumstance attempt to break the walls of any ship, such as the ship of Jon Bilgewater the Pirate King, the spawn point, and the ship holding the Kingdom Stowaway instead backing off if chasing a player who runs into it.
If players flee far away enough, or into any ship, the Calamity Crab will shortly give up chasing and resume its patrol until it finds another one.
The Calamity Crab can be staggered by inflicting Exposed onto it (most commonly with a Samurai’s Wakizashi), which temporarily Confuses it and makes it wander in place while giving it the Stunned and Armor Broken statuses - making it helpless and extremely vulnerable for a brief time. However, this will only work the first time this is done to the Crab.

If you are planning to solo a calamity crab on a melee class, be prepared to eat a LOT of shots. There is very little space between its shots at melee range.
The Calamity Crab is extremely powerful, and unprepared direct combat with it is ill-advised. Always be prepared for a run-in with this beast, as it can instantly kill a maxed player with ease if it takes them off guard (although there is a ~2 second grace period before it starts attacking). Depending on your situation, both battling the crab and fleeing are both valid responses, as it will temporarily give up on chasing if players run far enough, though you will have to run VERY far from it.
If you plan on defeating the Crab, it is advised that you’ve cleared out all the previous rooms to make space. The Calamity Crab is very fast and fires a large number of shots, making dodging room essential to killing it. Running into other enemies while the Crab is chasing you is often fatal.
If you are playing a Samurai, you can Expose the Crab to temporarily stagger it in a pinch. It’s advised to do this at a time when you either need to get away, or you’re in a position to do massive damage - this only works once.
The only thing capable of definitively stopping the Calamity Crab are the cave walls and any ship on the map. To kill the Calamity Crab, one can camp out in spawn, the Kingdom Stowaway ship, or Jon Bligewater’s ship (after clearing any enemies near the entranace), and kite the Calamity Crab towards it. If the player is standing within any of those ships, the Calamity Crab will back off and the player can reengage the Calamity Crab and repeat. Be careful utilizing Jon Bilgewater’s ship, as if it is not cleared out beforehand, there will be powerful enemies within.
Amusingly, the Calamity Crab is internally referred to as “DWD Mr Krabs” in the code, referencing the crustacean character of the same name from Spongebob Squarepants.
The stagger condition for the Calamity Crab is based on the Giant Crab’s in-story weakness to Exposed, which in turn is based on a meme from Genji: Days of the Blade involving “attacking giant enemy crabs’ weak points for massive damage.”
