Behavior

Captain Nycolas has a chance to be found in the Armory of the Royal Castle. When first approached, he will wander in place or follow the player while providing some dialogue.

“Ho! Well…met, wanderer? My, it has been quite some time since mine eyes have seen a new face.”
“But, to have made it in here…”
“…”
“I fear a dire mistake has been made, not just for you or me, but for everything beyond this fallen isle.”
“Please, I implore you to leave this place. With respect to your certain experience, you know not the depth of corruption we face.
“I will rally what few men I still know to be sound, and we shall me our duty head on to save you and all the realm knows.”
“I regret our hand being forced, but if you remain, you will only add to their numbers.”

(if the player responds to the previous line) ”No matter what we strike down day after day to endure, they always return!”
”The root must be cut to end this. Now go, with haste! I cannot bear to see more innocents consumed…”

After he finishes all of his dialogue, he will keep wandering, and cannot be interacted with any further.

If players battle the Forgotten King after having talked to Nycolas, his corpse can occasionally be found in the preceding hallway. If Vagrant Sellsword Ond’ande was talked to in the same run, Nycolas will instead be found dead beside him before his encounter, having been killed right before the players found them. If an Armory exists, Nycolas has a much higher chance of spawning if Ond’ande is present in the dungeon.

Trivia

There may be more than one Armory, increasing the chances of finding Captain Nycolas and fighting Vagrant Sellsword Ond’Ande.
There may be more than one Nycolas, but this does not affect the sequence if the player encounters Ond’Ande as well.
