The Crystal Worm Child appears in the center of the arena during the late stages of the Crystal Worm Mother battle. It follows players, firing 3-round bursts of light blue shards from its head while its other segments individually fire 4-way crystal bolts. The worm always spawns with 1 head segment, 5 body segments, and 1 tail segment - the head is invincible until the other segments are destroyed.
Once only the head remains, the Worm Child armors itself and becomes vulnerable. It then haphazardly moves around the arena, frequently firing a spiralling barrage of yellow shards that return to their position of firing. It is possible to rotate clockwise around the head to avoid all damage, however newer players might find this difficult.
Once the Child is killed, the fight with the Worm Mother will resume.
Behaves the same as its Fungal Cavern incarnation, but they spawn as standard enemies within the dungeon, meaning it is possible to encounter multiple at once. These versions have half the normal amount of HP (for all segments) and give substantally less XP, but are otherwise identical.
None.
The Crystal Worm Child with its whole body intact can be dealt with by maintaining distance and circling, while avoiding its frontal shotgun. However, its Head-only phase is easily capable of sending more inexperienced players to the nexus, or even to their graves. When it fires its spiral, just circle between its arms - keep in mind, however, that the returning shots return to where they were fired from, not where the Worm’s head currently is. Keep tabs on the Worm Mother for the whole time, as its shots combined with the Worm Child’s bullets can easily be lethal. Try to decoy the Worm Child toward the center of the room, this will give you more space to circle and makes the bullet patterns more predictable.
Dazing the Worm Child’s head when it’s alone will halve its bullet density and effectively leave a glaring safe spot on one side of its spiral, so it’s highly recommended to do that if possible.
Crystal Worm Children in the Crystal Cavern are far easier to deal with due to their lowered health, the fact that the Worm Mother isn’t there, and the terrain both providing more space to maneuver while blocking its shots. Deal with them similarly, and take advantage of nearby terrain that can block its spiral attack. Fighting them in rooms with other monsters is dangerous, so it is advised to lure them into a room with less enemies before taking them down.
The Crystal Worm Child in the Fungal Cavern has a total of 44,000 (+20% [8,800 HP] per player in dungeon) health spread across its seven segments. The Crystal Worm Children in the Crystal Cavern have half of this, 22,000 (+20% [4,400 HP] per player in dungeon) health each.
Prior to an unlisted change, its Crystal Cavern variant erroneously granted 20,000 EXP (or approximately 10 fame) after Exalt Version 1.2.0.0 (Oct 2020). This has since been reduced to the intended 2,000.
