The extremely fast and constant shots can chip away at your health. If there are few non-chasing enemies nearby, prioritise the boat. If there are too many enemies, try dragging them away from the platform or swiftly eliminating them before killing off the boat.
These enemies can uncommonly spawn out of melee and even dagger range, in which case you are better off ignoring them rather than treading through the highly-damaging Dead Water.
