Engineer's Records

This page groups the engineer’s records from the secret room in the Kogbold Steamworks. An interactable tile can be randomly found in rooms, which display records from the perspective of a head engineer of the Kobolds, the previous forms of the Kogbolds. The records detail how the Factory Control Core oversaw the Kobolds, instructed them to replace their bodies with mechanical parts (turning them into Kogbolds), the incredible pain experienced during the process, and how the author refused to undergo this process with the others. The fourth and final record can be found in a secret room next to a skeleton. The skeleton is implied to be the head engineer whom starved to death due to hiding from mechanization.

Engineer’s Records #1

Today I have been appointed by their holiness as the overseer of the Mechanization project. Finally, we will be shedding the frail bodies that have cursed my kin for centuries and replacing them with eternal machines. Never again will we lose one of our greatest minds to the perils of age. Admittedly I have concerns about the success rate of the process, but as it was designed personally by our lord, I know I can brush those worries aside. I am incredibly honored and excited to be a part of bringing our race to the new era.

Engineer’s Records #2

Today was the first day of the mechanization process. The first 100 Kobolds have gone through and become Kogbolds. Yes, Kogbolds! I thought up the name myself, a fitting title for our new race. As suspected, the process designed by their holiness is working flawlessly. Each and every Kobold that heads in comes out with a whole new level of energy, like everything weighing them down was simply removed through mechanization. This is a fantastic success, but… the screaming that occurs during the process, it’s unbearable. I can only imagine it as an overwhelming pain, but it’s all worth it in the end, right?

Engineer’s Records #3

Our lord must have noticed that overseeing the Mechanization project has caused a large amount of strain on my mental state, as I have been replaced by another engineer. Another Kobold, or I should say Kogbold. He has already been through the process after all, so that may be why he seems unfazed by his position. I remember him though. I remember all of the ones I saw undertake the transformation, his screaming was some of the worst, begging constantly for us to stop the procedure. However, after it was all over he seemed fine, as if nothing had ever happened. The same man he had always been. I can’t stay here, I can’t go through that process…
I must find somewhere to hide.

Engineer’s Records #4

The final number was called over the loudspeaker today, my number. I was scheduled last because I was supposed to be overseeing all of the other ones. They will surely find me soon, but try as they might I won’t go.

I won’t go.

I won’t go. I won’t go. I won’t go. I won’t go. I won’t go. I won’t go. I won’t go. I won’t go. I won’t go. I won’t go. I won’t go. I won’t go. I won’t go. I won’t go. I won’t go. I won’t go. I won’t go. I won’t go. I won’t go. I won’t go. I won’t go. I won’t go. I won’t go. I won’t go. I won’t go. I won’t go. I won’t go. I won’t go. I won’t go. I won’t go. I won’t go. I won’t go.

I WILL NOT GO.
