How to Solo Farm the Godlands

So you’ve finally made it to level 20 and are looking for the next challenge of the game. Well, most veteran players will tell you the next step is maxing your character so you can be better prepared to take on event bosses and Oryx.

This maxing process requires eight different varieties of stat potions, three of which are dropped by gods, with the other five being found in dungeons which are opened by killing gods and said event bosses. As you can see, learning to kill gods is important if you’d like your character to be awesome. And who doesn’t want that?

Why fight gods? To get stat potions! (And some decent equipment e.g. para rings).

Why farm gods solo? To be more likely to obtain soulbound bags! Or because none of your friends are online. Or because you’ve driven everyone away with that hideous cloth you’ve chosen to put on your character. Or because whenever large groups of people gang up and fight gods, it’s generally difficult to dodge, let alone get loot (though the group does steam-roll the gods).

Prepare for the trip

For all non-healing classes (and maybe Necromancers too), you may want to decide beforehand on a health level that means “it’s time to get out of here”. Some players return to the nexus as soon as their health drops below 50%. Set yourself a limit and stick to it. Better safe than sorry after all.

You can extend your god-hunting trips by bringing magic potions (for healers especially), health potions, healing ichors, or snake oils, and pollen powders. A pet is also very helpful, as you can use your ability more often and recover from mistakes faster. It might be worth keeping at least one on hand so that if you get in trouble you can hit the hotkey for the healing item while reaching for the nexus button (if you’re like me and prefer this method instead of the F5 key). This will give you a small buffer in case your mouse hand is a little too slow.

(Tip: Change your hotkey to the Nexus to something that is easier for you to press, like “F” or “R” or “Shift” if your playing with the default keys because this will make it easier to get out of danger faster.)

I have no guidelines for what level of equipment you should have with you, since killing gods can really be done with any strength weapon and armor as long as you are proficient at dodging bullets. On your quest to level 20 you’ve probably found good enough equipment to start out with, and you’ll get better equipment as you defeat gods or from generous players who notice you to be a hard-working level 20.

Get to the Godlands

When you enter a server check the minimap for a big cluster of relatively high level people. Teleport to them and see if they are in the godlands, distinguishable by its snowy white or charred black terrain. if they aren’t, just repeat until you find the godlands.

Note: You cannot teleport to cloaked Rogues, and trying to do so will not activate the teleportation cooldown. Even so, it’s better to not teleport to a Rogue in the godlands at all, since they might be recloaking just as you teleported, possibly resulting in the deaths of both players.

If your goal is to farm solo, then move away from whoever you teleport to (if you’re a Priest or Paladin, maybe heal them before you go, as a thanks for being so conveniently close to the Godlands).

Divide and conquer

Whether you’re a melee, ranged, or dagger class, it is much easier to fight gods when you’re up against one at a time. Scroll all the way in on your minimap, look for the nearest red dot, and inch towards it until you catch that god’s (ideally ONLY that god’s) attention, then draw it away from the pack into a nice open space to have your way with it. I mean kill it.

You must also make sure that you know exactly what you are backing up into or circling into. For example, circling around a Medusa on the edge of your cleared area will generally put you under fire from gods behind her. Make sure you clear the entire area behind yourself and that you always back up into your cleared zone, especially if you’re playing on a lower-defense class like the Wizard.

God-specific Strategy

Finally, the good stuff. Know your prey. See the Gods of the Realm page for details on each god such as HP, attack power, defense, movement behaviour, and drop lists.

Flying Brain

Flying Brain

Drops attack potions
Drops portals to the Mad Lab (source of wisdom and defense potions).

This is arguably the easiest god to fight. He shoots five fast-moving pink bolts in a star-shaped pattern around him, so simply move slightly to the left or right to avoid the one headed for you. Or you can just tank them, even with a robe class, as they do little damage-only about 50 damage per shot. Only dodge if you have less than 20 or so defense, because especially with pets, moving around isn’t worth your time with these guys. Do note that the flying brain will aim his shots at you, so if you are a low level trying to farm him, do not stand still in one place and hope not to take any damage.

Sprite God

Sprite God Sprite Child

Drops attack potions
Spawns Sprite Children which open portals to the Sprite World (source of dexterity potions).

Sprite Gods are tricky, with boomerangs inflicting Silence and a powerful spray. You can circle them, although if you’re in melee range you will probably be hit by Silence. Note that Sprite Gods do not follow players, so you can not draw it towards you into a safer area. First clear out the gods around the Sprite God.

As a ranged class you shouldn’t have much trouble circling to avoid the five purple shots and the boomerang that inflicts silence. From far away you might kill the sprite children and open a portal right away, but don’t rush for it until you kill the Sprite God and other gods around it. If you don’t think you’ll have enough time, just move on. Sprite Worlds are extremely common, so it’s not like missing a Mad Lab. Sprite worlds drop at approximately a 25% chance from sprite children, the smaller white things that the sprite god will have surrounding her. If you are hunting for a sprite world, it might be worth it to leave the sprite god alone to let her reproduce some sprite children as they are an easy dex potion for ranged classes.

White Demon

White Demon

Drops attack potions
Opens portals to the Abyss of Demons (source of vitality and defense potions).

The White Demon shoots three ninja star shaped projectiles that deal 45 damage. If you are ranged, it should be easy to deal with this god as his relatively low range makes it easy to drag. Defense-reliant characters (melee) might want to just leave them alone, however they (relatively to other gods) do not do that much damage per shot, so they are a pretty easy god to kill, but they armor pierce. Long ranged classes can kill this easily, although they may cut down some HP if you’re a melee since they armor pierce. Even if you are maxed, should feel some caution when fighting the white demon- your defense will not protect you, meaning that tanking the full shotgun will result in 135 ARMOR PIERCING damage.

Beholder

Beholder

Drops defense potions
Opens portals to the Cursed Library (source of vitality and wisdom potions)

Like the Flying Brain, this guy is another one of the easiest gods to kill. He shoots 5 slow but heavy damage bolts in a star-shaped direction around him, so simply move to the left or right to avoid the one headed for you. He also shoots a faster-moving purple star that inflicts blind, a minor annoyance that you can dodge in the same way as his regular attack, but it’s not like Blind is super deadly anyway. These guys are pretty easy to farm, and like the flying brains, try not to stand still as he does slowly aim it towards you. Just slowly move and stand between two of the cross sections created by the white bolts. The beholder does hit quite hard and can be somewhat annoying if there are many grouped, just try to lure them away from groups as they do chase and kill them.

Ent God

Ent God

Drops defense potions
Opens portals to the Magic Woods (source of dexterity and speed potions)

This guy shoots five red-orange piercing bolts at a rather narrow angle. You have two options to avoid his attacks. If you’re a ranged class and have lots of space behind you, back up and squeeze through the gaps in his attacks just like with the Djinn. Or, if you have space on either side of you, start strafing back and forth. The Ent God will shoot where he predicts you will be, so as soon as he fires, switch direction. This may require some good reflexes until you get the rhythm down and can tell when he’s about to fire at you. Try circling the ent god like a medusa and then change direction, and repeat. You can also back up as the ent god’s shots are not particularly fast and anyone above 25 speed should be able to kite him backwards. If you have high defense as a melee class, you can simply eat its shotgun and tank it. Do notice that you should watch your minimap so you don’t walk into another god.

Slime God

Slime God

Drops defense potions
Opens portals to the Toxic Sewers (source of defense potions).

This is the second toughest of the gods that drop defense potions (after the Leviathan). Similar to the Ent God, he has a regular five-bolt attack but also a green star that inflicts slow. You have the same two options as you do with the Ent God, but like the case with the White Demon, if you can’t dodge both attacks, higher priority should probably go to avoiding the 10-second slow effect. The Slime God is easier with melees, since it will be more forgiving if you get Slowed (due to their high defense). The slime god’s five bolt has the highest projectile speed of any shotgun in the godlands, so it’s better to try to circle him than to back up because the projectiles are much faster. My preferred strategy is to take cover when i can and then either spellbomb him (or quiver, trap, scepter, whatever ability you want) or just rush in if I’m melee because his damage output is lower than most other gods. Be wary though, the slow lasts a very long time and can be crippling if you’re standing in the middle of a bunch of gods.

Ghost God

Ghost God

Drops speed potions
Opens portals to the Undead Lair (source of wisdom potions).

He fires seven white heavy-damage bolts at a very wide angle. You shouldn’t even need to back up much to slip between the bolts, so just shift to the left or right a little like you would when fighting a Beholder or Flying Brain. However, if you’re a melee, the Ghost God will be a massive headache since you almost have to get hit in order to hit it. Tank bullets if you have a pet, as you’ll be healed back up in a few moments. Ranged classes can deal with him easily because his bullets spread wide the farther they go. Do not ever attempt to eat out all of its shotguns at once for it can leave you instantly dead or if you’re strong enough, to have yourself near close to dead and these will happen if you make poor decisions in life just like sitting on a Ghost god. These guys are VERY annoying when grouped; do not try to run close to them as a melee if they’re grouped, just try to dodge them until a ranged comes along or you WILL die to a shotgun that deals 840 damage.

Djinn

Djinn

Drops speed potions
Opens portals to the Cave of a Thousand Treasures (source of all potions, except mana and life).

The Djinn shoots a massive wave of bullets in all directions. However, lucky for you, the bullets are staggered, so they are easy to get in between. When he fires at you back up and squeeze between the gaps in his shots, then run forward to attack him. Repeat this process until dead (until it’s dead. You dying is not the goal here). The Djinn has the lowest health of all the gods and the bullets do not do that much damage. Best part about him, once he has less than 50% health, he stops firing and he starts blinking red for a second or two, then explodes with an 8 shot, 360 degree shotgun. If you’re standing on top of him while this is happening, you may take some very costly damage, even get insta-killed.

Medusa

Medusa

Drops speed potions
Opens portals to the Snake Pit (source of speed potions).

Ah, the Medusa. The scourge of champions the realm over. She fires five green bolts that are moderately spaced, each one doing 100 damage. You should be able to back up and dodge them. However, she periodically lobs a red grenade at you that deals a whopping 150 damage. Fortunately Medusas are laughably easy if you can get them alone (or in a group of only Medusas) in an open space. Simply circle around them and their attacks and grenades will miss you. This is also possible if there’s a Flying Brain or a Beholder in the group. Depending on how close you need to be to hit them you may need a decent speed stat to avoid being shotgunned in the face. A good alternative is if they’re in a group, and you’re a necro or assassin, just use your ability for devastation. However, most of the time Medusa’s tend to be close to some of the more dangerous gods. Trying to strafe Medusa while 2 ghost gods and a djinn are firing at you is a bad idea. If you still do want to do it though, strafe around Medusa as close as you can to her, basically at sword range, even if your an archer or some other ranged class.

Leviathan

Leviathan

Drops defense potions
Opens portals to the Puppet Master's Theatre (source of attack potions).

These gods are not fun, and are probably the hardest of the realm gods. The Leviathan has two main phases, named after the type of bullet it shoots during them, light blue shotgun and dark blue shotgun. The light blue shoots 4 bullets in a shotgun spread, while the dark blue shoots two with a smaller angle between them, but right at you. The Leviathan will shoot, even if you are cloaked, but only when it is in its light blue shotgun phase, and will not shoot at cloaked rogues in its dark blue shotgun phase. Ranged classes are the safest, with the most room for error. His shotgun can mow down a level 20 or even maxed characters, so be warned (also notice that he has a certain pattern in his attack style). With most ranged classes it is rather easy to kill these monsters by shooting at a 45 degree angle, towards the corners of your vision. While he moves towards you with his double shot it is rather easy to back up and circle him. Just be careful to avoid backing up into other gods.

The Leviathan has four phases. The first three phases involve him moving in a triangle-shaped path, shooting in the direction he is moving in with a spread of four bullets, and repeating the same thing at the two other points of an imaginary triangle around the creature. Move next to him and you won’t get hit. The fourth phase he “stalks” you, generally moving towards you while shooting a double shot at you. In this phase move side to side like with an Ent/Slime God, or just run away if you don’t feel like dodging these bullets. He will eventually go back to his triangle walk, where you can deal damage more safely. The best way to deal with them is using either a knight with a warrior boost and stunning it, or using an archer to paralyze it.

Red Demon

Red Demon

Drops speed potions

OK, he’s not really one of the gods of the realm. However, he’s found in Godlands and drops speed potions, so you should know how to deal with him. It might not be easy to separate him from a group of enemies since he mostly sticks to his lava fissure, so drag nearby gods away from him and deal with them first so you’ll have more room to work with. He fires five pink bolts very close together, so you’ll have a hard time slipping between them. Get close enough that he’ll follow you, then shoot at him while moving to the side of his attack. Another battlefield-cluttering annoyance is his 110 damage, bulwark-like projectiles. If you have a high defense and/or a good healing pet, feel free to tank these bullets as they only make the battle harder for everyone.

Lucky God-specific Strategy

Once in a while you will see gold projectiles from a distance or a huge gold version of a god, and at that moment you better be ready as this enemy is one of the rare Lucky Gods.
With a very high chance to drop their respective stat pot and always dropping their dungeon, each of these golden beauties will have something extra and dangerous about them compared to their normal counterparts. Keep your distance, check your surroundings, and nexus if needed.

Enjoy the spoils

If you choose not to drink the potions immediately, you’ll probably want to head back to the nexus to transfer your potions to your vault or trade them with other players (just be careful of scammers who want your hard-earned potions)!
