The three Messengers of Oryx are found in Oryx 3’s boss arena, and will activate when the fight begins. While they are initially passive, Oryx 3’s defenses will be greatly strengthened while they are active. He will be Invulnerable with 3 Messengers active, Armored with 2, regular with 1, and Armor Broken with none. After he performs his first Celestial Phase, he will be Invulnerable with 2 or 3 active, Armored with 1, and regular with none. Messengers do not have to be killed to deactivate them, as they will deactivate if damaged enough.
However, they will reactivate after some time has passed, briefly flashing red before doing so. Active Messengers will be holding one of the Oryx Runes and inactive Messengers will not be holding one.
Partway through Oryx’s fight, they will start to fire rings of Weakening shots. Later in the fight, they will start firing these shots in greater number, while also boosting the damage and debuff duration of their attacks.
When Oryx 3 enters his dying animation, the Messengers will all despawn.

Deactivate these by damaging them enough as soon as you can. The fight with Oryx 3 will go significantly faster if he is Armor Broken (or has normal DEF post-Celestial Phase).
Each messenger, when active, holds one of the Oryx Runes needed to access Oryx’s Sanctuary, suggesting that the runes players used to reveal the entrance are now being used to protect Oryx.
