Pyyr the Crimson Dragon

Last updated: Exalt Version 1.5.0.0 (May 2021)
Pyyr the Crimson Dragon

Pyyr the Crimson Dragon is one of the five bosses of the Lair of Draconis. If Pyyr is the fourth dragon fought, his name will change to Pyyr the Wicked.

The Realm Eye says:
In an effort to challenge Limon’s authority, Oryx captured a Fire Sprite and fused it with the body of a fabled dragon.
Oryx has personally bred the captive dragon to obey his commands so that he may establish control over the elements.
The sprite trapped inside yearns to reunite with its original body, now an aimless soul without a host.

Behavior

Pyyr is initially found dormant and armored in the center of a plain square room, accessed by attacking his statue in the central room of the Lair. After taking a bit of damage, he will awaken and provide a taunt before attacking.

  • (If fought as the first dragon) “You will soon join the ash among this chamber!”
  • (If fought right after Feargus) “”The winds, they howl with rage. Has Feargus truly perished?”
  • (If fought right after Limoz) “There is disturbance within the earth. It shall once more claim your bodies!”
  • (If fought right after Nikao) “As water tempers flames, Nikao’s spirit enhances my might!”

Phase 1

Pyyr becomes invulnerable and floods his arena with lava, leaving a ring-shaped area of walkable tiles with him in the center. Numerous Crimson Soul Shards spawn from the eggs around the arena, randomly picking between circling players or Pyyr himself. Pyyr himself will be firing rapid 4-way shotguns of fireballs that oscillate back and forth.

All Crimson Soul Shards must be killed to make Pyyr vulnerable.

Phase 2

The lava in the arena is filled up by walkable tiles again. Pyyr becomes vulnerable and starts chasing down players with three-way shotguns of large fireballs and rings of red orbs.

Phase 3

Pyyr moves into the center of the room. He then starts firing a clockwise-rotating shotgun of Armor Breaking fireballs, along with large fireballs fired in four directions.

Phase 4

After taking enough damage, Pyyr becomes invulnerable and floods his arena again. However, this time he will also flood parts of the walkable platform with more lava, making it harder to traverse.

He will then repeat Phase 1, but now fires rings of slow, large fireballs. Like before, all Crimson Soul Shards must be defeated to end the phase.

Phase 5

Pyrr flashes, then starts moving between the four cardinal points on the solid platform in a diamond pattern, briefly stopping at each one. He will fires 3-way shotguns of fireballs and rings of orbs while moving, and will rapidly fire shotguns of Armor Breaking spirals in four directions while standing still. Note that all lava from the last phase will remain in this one.

Upon reaching critical HP, he will taunt “I will fight you until my last breath…”, despawn all existing lava, and move into the center of the room, transforming into a statue and awarding XP to his killers. Players can then use the statue to teleport back to the main room, where the purple dragon soul will self-terminate and drop Pyyr’s loot.

Inherited Abilities

Arena
  • If a dragon was slain first, the arena will change respectively:
    • Feargus: four Shade Tornadoes persist in the corners of the arena, firing Pet Stasis inflicting stars.
    • Nikao: the walkable platforms will now be made of slowing tiles.
    • Limoz: the walkable platforms will have numerous boulders placed to obstruct player movement.
Phase 1 (and repeat)
  • If three dragons have been killed prior, the Crimson Soul Shards will fire purple bolts/slowing blue shots/sickening green balls instead of fire shots if Feargus/Nikao/Limoz was the third one killed.
  • If two dragons have been killed prior, Pyyr will fire additional:
    • Feargus: targeted shotguns of Pet Stasising stars, half fired in the opposite direction
    • Nikao: shotguns of blue boomerangs
    • Limoz: rings of sickening orbs
Phase 2 (and repeat)
  • If two dragons have been killed prior, Pyyr will fire additional:
    • Feargus: radial barrages of purple bullets
    • Nikao: rings of slowing blue stars
    • Limoz: 4-way streams of green spines
Phase 3 (and repeat)
  • If two dragons have been killed prior, Pyyr will fire additional:
    • Feargus: purple rays (pattern TBA)
    • Nikao: 2-way shotguns of blue bolts
    • Limoz: spirals of boulders

Tips and Strategies

  • After all of Pyyr’s minions die in the first phase, Pyyr will quickly lunge toward the closest player. It is advisable to move far away from the group when almost all of the minions are dead.
  • The Armor Breaking shots, combined with multiple high-damage shots, can lead to a swift death. Be cautious.
  • If you have a small group, it is recommended to circle around Pyyr, dodging it’s minions’ shots so as to take as little damage as possible. Tanking or standing in one place is better if you have a large group through which you could cycle who takes damage.
  • Pyyr is very aggressive and has the potential to be extremely debilitating to melees. It’s highly recommended to be at least 2/8, maxed speed and defense, before attempting to fight.
