Realmers!

It has been a while since our last update, but now the new year has arrived and so has a new update to Realm of the Mad God. Oryxmas is coming to an end which means it is time for a new event! Down below you will find more information about the “Turbine Trouble” Campaign and “Full Steam Ahead” Event, starting today. The year just started and we are looking forward to sharing more information about upcoming features with you in the near future.

Turbine Trouble / Full Steam Ahead

The age of Steamworks continues in the Realm! This Event is split into different activities. You can progress in our Free Campaign or take part in the Community Event taking place. 

Turbine Trouble Free Campaign

During this event, you will be able to collect special tokens from dungeon bosses that you can redeem to increase your progress in our free campaign. The campaign starts on the 18th of January and ends on the 1st of February, with a grace period until the 4th of February at 12 UTC.

Full Steam Ahead Community Competition

From the 18th of January until the 1st of February at 12 UTC, you will be able to collect 1 point when defeating the Factory Controle Core in the Kogbold Steamworks.

Your progress will be shown in our leaderboard and depending on your position at the end of the event you will be rewarded with the following items.

Dungeon Events

Starting on the 18th of January and ending on the 1st of February, a 1.5x Loot and EXP Event will be running in the Kogbold Steamworks.

Additionally, the dungeon has a 25% chance to spawn another Kogbold Steamworks Portal after defeating the Factory Control Core.

  • Mark of Control Core now has the correct Icon in the Forge.
  • Fixed an issue where the tooltip of an item would still appear when hovering over the purchase button for gold.
  • Adjusted the scrolling in the Battlepass window with the mouse wheel and the buttons.

Lovely Realmers!

It’s that time of the year again when love even finds its way into Realm of the Mad God. Our Servers have received some new names in the server overview and in addition to the mentioned things down below, we have optimized the performance and loading time of the friend and guild list. Have a look at our upcoming Valentine’s Event and Bounty, the new Season including a brand new Battle Pass and Missions, and the new “Playing Now” Panel.

Valentines Event

One more month and we will finally be able to celebrate the start of spring and hopefully let the cold days behind us for a while. In Realm you will already be able to enjoy some of the spring feelings. The Valentine’s Event brings to you some angry flowers that need to be reminded of what climate we currently have outside.

The Valentine’s Event starts on the 7th of February after the release and ends on the 21st of February at 12 UTC.

During the event’s duration, The Gardener will be guaranteed in the Realm, opening a way to Belladonna’s Garden. For the duration of the event, we also added new loot you can receive from the Realm Encounter and Belladonnas:

New Season

This Season is a little bit shorter than the previous ones. This time you will have 5 weeks to complete the Battle Pass and the new Missions coming with this update. The main reason for this is to have the next season already live 2 weeks before we release the Easter update. As you know we had some issues in the recent past with releasing several features and events at once and we don’t want to release everything at the same time.
Since the Battle Pass is shortened, we have reduced the price to 600g for this season.

Missions

A new Season also means new Missions! As always, remember that finishing Missions will give you progress with your Battle Pass.

“Playing Now” Panel

This is a new tab we have added to the Social Menu called “Playing now”.

In this panel you can see the players currently in the same room as you. This does not work outside the current room for the time being, but we want to hear your opinions on this feature.

In the upper section, you can see your own character and set the visibility of the character for the rest of the players in that room.

If set to ON (which is the default), then the character is visible in the “Available players” list for all other players. Players with visibility OFF won’t appear in this list nor be added to the player count for the current map. Beware that if you decide to load a new character, the visibility toggle should keep the previous setting. 

You can also sort players by pressing the icon ↿⇂ .The sorting order is by star rank and then maxed stats (X/8).

In addition, you can hover any character in the “Available players” section to open the regular interaction panel. This also allows you to chat, trade, lock or add new Friends directly from this list. Remember some commands like Trade will still not work if you are too far from the player.

Status icons

  • You can pick an icon from a predetermined list by clicking next to your star rank.
  • You can use these “statuses” however you want! For example:
    • An icon to advertise you have keys for an important dungeon (or O3 runes)
    • An icon to advertise you look forward playing endgame dungeons
    • An icon to advertise you are in a certain mood
    • An icon to advertise you are happy and looking forward to chat or socialize

Kogbold Steamworks Adjustments

Based on your feedback, we have applied the following adjustments to Kogbold Steamworks:

  • Fixed a display name issue with the Encounter
  • Removed sub-branches in the map generation
  • Increased BXP and XP by ~18%
  • Removed stun and daze immunities from all enemies (Exception: Kogbold worker can not be stunned but can be paralyzed)
  • Removed Paralyze immunities from all small enemies
  • High visibility and plumber kogbolds will now only try to get within 1.2 tiles of the player instead of 0.2
  • Kogbold Welder circles the player at 2.4 tiles instead of 1.8
  • All dungeon turrets are killable
  • Fire ball and water ball turrets no longer fire for 6 seconds (10 volleys of shots) and stop for 6 seconds, instead fires for 3 seconds and stops for 5 seconds
  • Other turrets are still tbd
  • Fix display ids on Factory Maintenance Core and Jungle Fire
  • Drop rate increases for all UTs except Amulet of Frenzy, Core increased slightly more than the rest
  • Fixed an issue with conveyor belts not working correctly in some rooms.
  • Fixed an issue with steamworks dungeon mod name and description

Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where several tooltips would not appear in the shop interface.

Update 3.3.4.0 – Mardi Gras + New STs

Realmers!

Time for another update. Introducing first our new ST Sets. The Onmyoji Ninja and the Plague Doctor Priest find their way into Realm of the Mad God. You will also be able to join our next campaign Horror STory III and jump into the Event Dungeons during Mardi Gras! The Discord voted and decided which Skin everyone will be able to receive for free in the Shop.

At the end, you will find more information regarding changes to dungeon modifiers and new dungeon mods.

ST Sets

Like opposite sides of the same coin, the Plague Doctor and Onmyoji try to help those separated by the boundary between life and death.

Ninja Set: Onmyoji Ninja

The Onmyoji Ninja trades their Ninja Star for an Invocation scroll that, while held, summons extra shots for their weapon. They also utilize the new ability swap mechanic, to swap between 2 different shot patterns. Wearing the Armor and the Ring will provide unique buffs to this ability.

*The Token Name for the Shakujo & Cane of Caduceus in the Forge Interface are currently wrong and will be fixed in a future update.

Priest Set: Plague Doctor Priest

The Plague Doctor Priest forgoes the usual Healing Tome for their own preferred medical device…their leeches. The Plague Doctor Priest can summon up to 3 leeches to aid them in battle, siphoning the health of enemies, and exploding with a healing AOE burst. The leeches can be upgraded to siphon health to players, and also burst with a damaging AOE blast. This ability uses the switch ability mechanic to manually detonate the leeches.

Horror STory III

Description: Join the Campaign for free and collect points with every purchase you make in the Mystery Shop or Nexus. Collecting points will unlock Ranks and many bonus Rewards! The Quests start on the 21st of February and end on the 18th of April.

Mardi Gras

Mardi Gras is all about getting dressed and throwing the best costume together! Last week we started a voting on our official discord server. And you, the community decided on the number 1 skin that everyone will receive for free! The Cleaner Maid Paladin Skin won!

Additionally, the next 8 most voted skins will be added to a quest during the time of the event, where you can choose to redeem one of them. You will also be able to purchase those 8 skins with a discount in our Shop. Either in packs or as a single purchase. 

The Mardi Gras Event starts on the 21st of February after the release and ends on the 27th of February.

Changes to Dungeon Modifiers

It is time we adjust the Dungeon Modifiers. As you know, Dungeon Modifiers are special properties that can appear in dungeons that modify several aspects of the gameplay for that particular run. At the same time, dungeons have a Difficulty level, which is used as a generic metric for how challenging the dungeon is.

In the future, we want to improve the Difficulty levels system for all dungeons, and one of the first steps for that, is to change Dungeon Modifiers for all dungeons.

The list of changes for this update is as follows:

  • Dungeon Modifiers are skewed positively. It is not guaranteed but in general, you will see more “positive” than “negative” mods. However, this distinction can sometimes be flimsy as some mods like “Spider Swarm“ and many others have a mixed effect of increasing challenge and rewards to the player.
  • For that reason, dungeon modifiers will not display a “green” or a “red” color; instead, they will all be the same color.

  • In addition, now Dungeon Modifiers will not affect the Difficulty level of the dungeon. This is also in line with our vision for the Difficulty level system and future changes that will come at a later time.
  • Lastly, we have decided to disable Dungeon Modifiers that change the HP and damage inflicted by the enemies. The list of Dungeon Modifiers disabled are below (all intensities):
    • Weak Minions and Boss
    • Tame Minions and Boss
    • Bulky Minions and Boss
    • Elite Minions and Boss
    • Ferocious Minions and Boss


Note: if you have a key with any of these Modifiers it will still be usable. However in the Key Refining system they cannot appear again, so if you reroll, upgrade or downgrade that key, these Dungeon Modifiers won’t appear.

New Dungeon Modifiers

  • To make up for the removed modifiers, we have created the following options:
    • Heroic Defense, Heroic Frenzy, Heroic Damage, Heroic Speed
      • Allows enemies to drop Heroic orbs which apply effects other than Healing and Energised.
      • The orbs dropped give the following effects (in this order):
        • Armored
        • Berserk
        • Damaging
        • Speedy

      • Drop rate of the orbs is roughly half that of the Healing and Energised versions.

    • Unprepared I-V

      • Reduces the rate of health and mana potion drops from minions.


  • A number of other Modifiers have been changed as part of this pass:

  • Dull, Keen, Skilled and Lazy modifiers now have one extra level each.
  • Found Treasure! I and II can now spawn alongside other reward-type modifiers.
  • Survivor has been broken into 5 levels to match Unprepared.

Changes and Fixes

  • Added the fix for the O3 DC issues that you helped us test a while back!
  • Fixed the issue with the Eye Emote.
  • Medusa and Beholder now have the correct original projectile sprite.
  • Fixed an issue with the projectile sprites of the Sweetheart Taichi reskin.

Realmers!

We are getting closer and closer to Easter but before that, it is time to celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day! Go and hunt the Leprechaun, collect tokens, and turn them in for some nice rewards. Talking about rewards, now is the perfect time for our seasonal characters to go hunt for some tasty shiny items! You can find a list of the first batch of items down below.

You were able to check out the balance and QoL changes on testing 2 weeks ago, now it’s time to implement them in the game. We still did some changes based on your feedback on some of the items, so go and have a look.

Saint Patrick’s Day Event

Starting on the 14th of March (after the release) and ending on the 26th of March at 12 UTC, the Green Leprechaun is back to Realm.

The tiny green fellow is back in the Realms for another run! This year, he will spawn twice – once after you defeat all Red Demons and a second time after Ghost Kings. The Leprechaun will have a chance of spawning either a portal to Rainbow Road or dropping a Pot Of Gold, they will be guaranteed to give you 4 Patty Tokens.

Leprechaun Dungeon Mod

The mod will make it so the Yellow Leprechaun spawns for players after defeating Davy Jones, Daichi the Fallen, Gulpord the Slime God, Dr. Terrible, Septavius the Ghost God, and Archdemon Malphas in their respective dungeons.

Fame Boxes

With this release you will be able to purchase Fame boxes again, this time around for Paladin and Priest! You will receive one of the items per spin. These boxes have no limit and can be purchased several times.

Shiny Items

With this patch, some items will be getting special “ultra rare variants” that have different aesthetics.

A “shiny” version of an item will drop from the same locations the original does, but with a much lower chance (which means some of them will be extraordinarily rare to see around). Shiny items are functionally identical to their normal versions.

A special characteristic of shiny items is that they can only drop if you are playing a Seasonal character, although they can still be transferred to your regular vault as usual. Also, you cannot craft Shiny items but you can dismantle them as usual.

If you are lucky enough to find one of these Shiny drops and equip it, you will see that in addition to a spin on the old graphics, the item will display a “shine” effect animation.

A new season also means new Missions! As always, remember that finishing Missions will give you progress with your Battle Pass.

Repeatable Missions

From now on some of the Missions will be repeatable. This means once you have completed them, they can be repeated once their cooldown has ended. Once completed, you can still move forward and complete the next mission in the chain. The reset for the repeatable missions is not affected by server restarts or certain set times. They will reset depending on when you completed them.

Seasonal Item Forge

For this update, we are changing the rules of Item Forge regarding Seasonal characters. We have heard your feedback and suggestions (thank you very much!) and we have decided to act on it. You can now read the changes that will apply to Item Forge when you play with a Seasonal character.

End of season reset

  • This rule stays; at the end of a season, the Item Forge resets completely for Seasonal characters.

Using Blueprints

  • If you use a Blueprint with a Seasonal character, it will unlock the item in both the seasonal and the regular Item Forge!
  • However, be wary that this does not happen the other way around: if you acquire and use a Blueprint with a regular character, it will only unlock items in the regular Item Forge.
  • The final effect achieved with this is that Blueprints acquired with your Seasonal character will contribute to both your seasonal and regular progression, while Blueprints used with a regular character won’t ever affect your seasonal progression, which would defeat the purpose of seasonality, specially at the beginning of new seasons.

Transferring Blueprints to regular Vault

  • If you have Blueprints you haven’t used in your seasonal Vault, they will be transferred to the regular Vault alongside all your other items, same as of now.
  • However, we have added an extra restriction that forbids a Blueprint to be carried when converting a Seasonal Character into a regular one mid-season, using the NPC in the Nexus.
  • In practical terms, this shouldn’t be a problem because if you get a Blueprint you’d like the recipe for in both Item Forges, simply use it with your Seasonal Character and it will unlock the item in both as per the rule we mentioned before.
  • The reason for this restriction to exist has to do with our future plans for seasonality and creating season-locked items that will be only transferred at the end of the season and not mid season.

Note: The new seasonal forge rules will apply, for technical reasons, on the new upcoming season and not the last one. This means that this last season your Item Forge recipes unlocked with a Seasonal character will not unlock in the regular vault, but from this new season and onwards they will.

Kogbold Express changes

Known Issues

  • Keys with Dungeon Modifiers in Gift Chest have a visual glitch where they do not show the mods correctly. This is purely visual, but we have disabled the mods from showing in the tooltip if the key is in the Gift Chest. A fix will be worked on for a later patch to deal with this issue in a more definitive way.

-Tomb life drops are now a minimum of 3, up from 1

Designer note: The nerf to this tome is long overdue, it was ignored in the original vital combat tome nerf and has since become far and above the best healing option often able to outheal entire boss patterns on its own. Even with a large nerf this tome should still be very powerful, but not trivializing many fights it is in.

Players may notice that this tome has received a second, even harsher nerf since the PT, this is because even as it stood heavily nerfed in the PT it was found to still be extremely powerful. While a 60% mana increase and nearly halving of healing may sound like an extreme nerf, and it is, it is more indicative of just how powerful this tome was before.

This item will be watched after this nerf, and if a buff is deemed necessary it will receive one, but please, try it out on production, see how it performs, we believe it will still prove quite useful.

Designer note:
Unfortunate as it is, the original design of this shield has caused more problems than it was worth. Many bosses have had to have specific design considerations added in to prevent this one item from potentially trivializing phases. While we appreciate the risk/reward it brought for the Knight user themselves, that same risk was not extended to the other players participating in the dungeon who got to benefit from the Knight acting as a human decoy. We hope this new version can still promote some risk/reward gameplay or at least be useful as a defensive tool in phases where another knight shield would provide no benefit.

We received a lot of feedback around this change over the course of the PT. While many of you are likely disappointed to find the direction of the item unchanged, we did not believe there was a good way to keep the item in its old state, even with many of the suggestions we saw. For example, the suggestion of applying invisibility to the item, while it would solve the human decoy issue, could very well bring up other balance issues by making the Knight extremely powerful in solos.

Additionally, we believe that human decoy or not, the sustained invulnerability provided by this item has potential to be problematic in itself, granting up to 8 straight seconds of invulnerability, that can still trivialize some more dodging based phases and can restrict more bullet dense design. In the old state of the item you could stay invulnerable for 8 seconds, quickly consume potions, and then go right into another 8 seconds of invulnerability, potentially repeating a few times with enough consumables, for dungeons where sustained dodging is a priority this would be extremely powerful. Suggestions to increase the mana cost, or even the cooldown of the item, could help to resolve this problem but would push the item into either being extremely clunky to use (cooldown) or requiring very specific builds to even work (mana cost). These do not seem like great choices for the item’s overall health and would just serve to make the item feel bad instead of trying to move it in a different direction.

The performance of this item will be watched, and if it remains in need of a buff in it will receive one. In the future when we have more tools available we would also like to revisit this item once again, and potentially give it yet another rework to bring it more inline with the tanking item many players expect it to be, without going all the way back to applying invulnerable.

Designer note:  It may be confusing to see a nerf to an item that was substantially buffed during the testing phase, this however was due to a separate change done a while ago to how invulnerability is applied. Unlike in the past this item will now apply invulnerability instantly, able to save you from even the most deadly of shotguns so long as the damage you take from each individual shot is less than the health threshold. This was noticed as a potential problem as it meant you could effectively survive everything in the game and get a 2 second cooldown out of it. This version will still allow you to have protection from death, with the higher threshold being a buff making sure any damage you could take would count within saving range. However, this higher threshold also means you need to make sure you play well to keep your safety net up as dropping to half health for any reason will proc the effect and put it on cooldown. The armor also has had its invulnerability duration cut in half along with this as the ease of which you could proc this item coupled with a relatively long duration meant it could let you get away with more than just being saved from a large mistake.

There is potential that this item is still broken and is too effective at saving players, potentially playing out similarly to just having an ammy if you make sure to nexus in that second of invulnerability. This item like many others will be watched after this release to see if it requires any other changes, be they buffs or further nerfs.

We are finally here, Easter is upon us! Biff went to the gym and trained hard to make sure he can show his new skills. Be careful though, as he is now full of surprises. Additionally, let’s welcome the newest dungeon to RotMG! Moonlight Village by Mizumi is now in the game. You don’t want to miss out on our Easter event, free campaign and more.

Moonlight Village

There are many discordant spirits in the Realm – beings that amass great amounts of power to cause great change in chaotic ways. However, there are also harmonious spirits – those that exist in the background in order to maintain a thin yet tangible balance between the forces in the Realm. Due to their mostly passive nature, they are seldom encountered by mortals – until very recently.

A great migration has occurred in the Realm, and thousands of wispy, floating lights descend upon the land, always traveling but with no cohesive destination. Some of the Realm’s denizens appreciate the unexpected beauty of this incident, while Oryx sees them as but a minor annoyance. With their seemingly endless numbers and a lack of a central source, removing these wisps was an act of futility for Oryx’s minions.

It serves as the border between the ethereal and the physical, linking to a distant land. Crossing would bring one to an old and seemingly abandoned eastern village. What lies here may be the spiritual remnants of a long, bygone culture of exquisite dance and cunning warfare. However, this village is not without its occupants – ethereal dancers of an ancient, yet strangely recognizable art. What you might not realize, is that their form of dance may be far more lethal than it seems.

I am Mizumi, the lead creator of the Moonlight Village dungeon, and I will be your guide to tonight’s festival. This dungeon has been in development since the start of 2022 and I would like to give a massive thanks to everyone I’m about to mention as well as those who helped in little ways to get the dungeon to this point.

The Moonlight Village is an old eastern fishing village which lies far away from the grasps of Oryx’s rule. The peaceful village comes alive at night, as spirits gather to witness the spectacular festival!

The dungeon is set within a small fishing village at night, on the eve of celebrations. Unlike most dungeons in the game, this one has no minion clearing section and will instead consist purely of bosses. Three dancers will greet you at the festival as you make your way to the village center square!

The three dancers rotate throughout the festival to be the central performer. Once a dancer has performed, they won’t become the main dancer again but will act in a supporting role! The festival will end once all three dancers have performed and the closing act has finished.

Although their lively performances may appear welcoming at first, ensure you are able to keep up with their pace or you might end up joining the souls that have passed on! The core dungeon has varying levels of difficulty depending on the player’s choices, but it aims to hit an average difficulty of 8/10.

When in regular difficulty mode, the final dancer who concludes the festival will grant the following exaltations:

Sage Genji – LIFE Exaltation

Drummer Kaguya – MANA Exaltation

Dancer Miko – ATT Exaltation

The dungeon also has various unique mechanics that determine how you progress through the boss fights.

Unlike other boss fights in the game, the festival dancers will not use a health bar as an indicator for the progression of the fight. Instead, they will have a counter bar that signals to players how far they have advanced through a phase. Think of this as a timer!

However, it is possible to hasten the timer. Laying fire upon the main dancer during their normal phases will cause the timer to tick up faster. The higher the damage per second, the faster the phase will finish. On the other hand, not shooting at the bosses will cause the timer to tick much slower.

Other than the damage timer, there is also a second timer mechanic that you will encounter called the lantern timer. Between each ‘normal’ phase of the boss, there are survival sections known as danmaku phases.

During danmaku phases, the main dancer will be invulnerable. Instead, a lantern will manifest that players can follow. Similar to before, following the lantern will help speed up the progression of the phase. This is especially important during danmaku phases due to the presence of dancer specific status effect auras that will impede players. Being close to the lantern will also provide a healing buff and remove the bleeding status effect, which might be crucial for certain auras!

Rewards

The reward system for Moonlight Village is also quite different from regular dungeons. The better you ‘perform’ during the fights, the higher the quality and quantity of rewards!

In essence, the faster you are able to complete the dungeon the higher the grade of loot that is provided at the end of the festival. This means players must both be able to consistently deal damage to the bosses as well as follow the lantern closely if they want better chances at loot.

Event Boss

The Ethereal Shrine is a mysterious building that has appeared within the realm. It emanates a steady torrent of spiritual energy, spewing a sea of wisps across the land.

These wisps appear to be harmless, even giving off a feeling of warmth and happiness when touched! Although they may appear to be wandering aimlessly, they are in fact trying to find their way back home.

The gate to the spirit realm is not so easy to approach however. Gather spirits from across the realm in order to activate the encounter and prepare for a fight! Similarly to the dungeon, you can follow the lantern in order to weaken the defenses of the shrine.

Concluding Thoughts

Thank you to everyone who has given feedback during the development of the dungeon, Moonlight Village would not have been well polished without your help! We encourage players of all levels of play to try out the dungeon with an open mind, as the dungeon might be difficult but is nowhere near as punishing as most endgame dungeons.

Biff Changes

Biff is now stronger!

We have reworked the Biff fight in order to be more in line with other event bosses in the game. To spawn it, you have to clear all the Ghost Kings in a new realm.

During the first phase, Biff rotates between two sub-attacks. These phases include shooting shots in a radial pattern and shooting rotating bullets.

In the second phase, he throws his egg baskets towards the edge of the arena and starts shooting grenades in the shape of carrots. The egg baskets shoot projectiles outwards and throw egg grenades inwards. In this phase players have to defeat the baskets to proceed.

In the third phase, the Buffed Bunny shoots an arc of slightly rotating bullets.

In the fourth phase, he throws eggs to the edge of the arena and starts walking randomly to them while shooting inwards. After he receives some damage, he goes to the center and starts shooting projectiles, while the eggs start rotating around him and shoot bullets slowly in circular shapes.

The drop table has been balanced around the changed complexity of the fight. He now drops a guaranteed stat potion and has a chance to drop the Incubation Mace.

Battle Pass & Mission Changes

We heard your feedback and additionally had a look at our own data. We agree that the amount of BXP needed right now in order to finish the Battle Pass is too high. We have decided to reduce the required BXP by ~25%. In order to complete it now, you will need to gain 615k BXP. You will also find a free BP Booster in the Shop.

Additionally, we have added BXP to two of our repeatable seasonal missions.

New Status Effect: Drought

This new Status Effect “Drought”, represented by an empty potion icon, will temporarily disable consumable items for the player, causing you to be unable to use them for its duration. You will see this new status effect implemented for the first time in Moonlight Village, Interregnum, and Shatters sick phases.

This includes all things marked as consumables, blueprints, keys, skins, will all be unable to be used or consumed during the effect duration.

Veteran Skins

They are back in the shop! If your account is older than 7 years you will be able to purchase them for Fame! This pack will not show up in the Shop if you already claimed them in the past.

Other fixes

  • Fixed a case where the cooldown for procs were not working correctly in items with different uses.
  • Fixed attack pattern problems when using any Tachi with an Invocation Scroll.

Update 3.3.7.0 – O3 and Moonlight Village

Realmers!

Easter and its events are coming to an end. We had a full month of Events and a community campaign and it’s now time to move forward with the next update. You already tested some of the changes coming up to Realm of the Mad God, like the O3 changes and Moonlight Villages adjustments. Additionally, our newest STs for the Priest and Ninja now drop from specific dungeons. To celebrate this we are hosting events in them. The April Fool Skins will be removed with this update. 

Oryx 3 Adjustments

The Oryx 3 fight has shown a lot of issues as time progressed, generally as time goes on we expect for bosses to get more optimized. Oryx 3 however has in some cases been optimized to the point where the boss is incapable of attacking for the majority of the fight. The primary culprit of this is the counter/stagger system, as it currently exists dealing enough damage quick enough will instantly cancel any attack oryx is doing and force him into a reset. Coupled with many instances where O3 is vulnerable to damage while not doing anything and you can blow away most of the fight with oryx barely shooting a single bullet. The following changes should keep the majority of the fight intact while still rewarding good gameplay and patching up a lot of the above issues.

The O3 counter/stagger system has been fully retooled, now instead of getting the counter or stagger at the end of an attack, O3 will fully complete all of the attacks in a combo chain. When you hit a certain threshold of damage in each phase, o3 will go invulnerable for the remainder of the attack and add to a tally of times the threshold was reached in the combo, at the end of the combo O3 will enter a stagger state with a duration depending on how many of these thresholds was reached over the course of the combo. When hitting a threshold an attack will end a little bit faster than if that threshold was not hit and the attack fully played out.

The thresholds have been normalized to 3.5% for all o3 attacks, this is not a final value, but was chosen to hopefully allow well played solos to still hit these thresholds on occasion. Additionally if you happen to have a stagger occur near the bosses next phase transition, the stagger will allow you to push up to 5% of Oryx’s hp into the next phase. If you hit a phase transition with a stagger count of 2 or higher a stagger will automatically occur as if the combo chain ended there.

Oryx now only does combos of length 2 or 3 before he becomes exalted, and will only do combo chains of length 4 or 5 while exalted. This should allow you to get staggers more often in the earlier parts of the fight but need to last through longer attack chains in the later parts.

O3 has had some of his phase transition points changed in order to shift a little more of the fight into later phases and speed up the portions that players generally find less engaging.

The threshold changes are as follows:
Portals 80% -> 85%
Dance 60% -> 70%
Exalted 50% -> 55%
Celestial Unchanged – 40%
Heavens 20% -> 15%
Death 5% -> 1%

Counters have been entirely removed from the fight.

Invulnerability has been added to the windows at the start of attacks and between combos as o3 is resetting to the center. This should cut down on the “free” damage windows present in the fight as they had previously been contributing to the fight being steamrolled in higher dps groups.

The hp scaling for player counts 2-5 has been increased from 25% to 35%, this only increases the health gained at those player counts, scaling beyond the 5th player is unchanged.

Celestial caps damage dealt at 20% of O3’s HP during that phase, this will not longer let you kill him entirely during that phase but, coupled with the stagger at the end, will let you push all the way into heavens and even cut into its hp pool a bit. When combined with subsequent the stagger this totals to 25% damage from a single celestial.

Each Oryx 3 attack now has a third attack it can chain into, this was done to counteract the loss of chain variety caused by the removal of Counters, reincorporating the lost “Guarded Chains” by splitting them into the attacks that lost them and the attacks that previously had staggers.

Oryx now has a 50% chance to grant an additional Life Exaltation when defeated.

Over our testing periods, we have received a lot of feedback, both positive and negative. While it may disappoint some of you to see these changes make it Live, we, unfortunately, were not able to get the full data that we wanted for the system on testing. What we did get was very promising, resulting in a nearly imperceptible time difference from a production run, and solving the issues we set out to solve. As such these changes will be going live, but should the system prove to be overall negative after players have gotten used to it, revisiting it or rolling it back will be on the table. That said, we do believe if you give the changes a shot, once you get used to them you will find them rather positive.

Moonlight Village Fixes

  • Fixed multiple typos in text from NPCs.
  • Fixed all Fishing Rods to have proper cooldowns.
  • Increased the lifetime of the summons from Flowering Kimono, Sage’s Wakibiki, and Ethereal Happi by 3 seconds.

  • Fixed a bug where syndicate minions would incorrectly alter the completion count of dungeons.

It’s time for the next update. The current season is coming to an end which means the next one is just around the corner. We are also taking the O3 changes (that you already tested during our public testing session) live. A new season means a new Battle Pass and a new set of Missions. Missions

With a new season, come new Missions. Additionally, we are introducing Missions where you can directly choose the reward. This is mainly to prevent you from having to turn in 14 chests at the tinkerer. 

Solo Parasite Chamber Leaderboard

Dungeon Explorer V will give you access to a Solo Parasite Chambers Key. This Mission is repeatable so you can run the dungeon several times. You will only be able to use the Key in your Vault. During the whole duration of Season 6, a Leaderboard Event will be active.

Your Goal? Be the fastest one to clear the Dungeon. At the end of the season, the fastest people will receive some rewards!

You will only be able to use the key on a seasonal character.

New Shiny Items

Coming in this new season is a new small batch of shiny items, The Tome of Holy Protection, Beekeeper’s Flamethrower, Scepter of Devastation, and Penetrating Blast Spell. These shiny items will rarely drop for the seasonal characters from their normal sources.

Seasonal Spoils

As announced last week, we decided to do some changes to the plan of the Seasonal Spoils Chest. This new Chest will be used in the future to move your Seasonal Items to the Spoils Chest, and after a set time those items will be deleted. BUT due to feedback from the community and us investigating further actions we can take before doing this move, we decided to implement the Spoils Chest differently for now.

The Spoils Chest will not have a ‘deletion’ timer for now and items will be stored in the chest while we keep working on additional adjustments to the normal Gift Chest and Vault. For the time being, ONLY the items from the Seasonal Vault will be sent to the new Seasonal Spoils Chest. All the items from your current Seasonal Gift Chest will be sent to your non-seasonal Gift Chest. Your Potions will also be sent to your Gift Chest. At a later point, we will introduce an end date to items in the Seasonal Spoils Chest in order to future-proof it from becoming too unwieldy, but we will give you enough time to sort out the items you want to save.

Further Oryx 3 changes

As we said last update we would be watching the Oryx 3 system changes and potentially making more changes based on the results. Unfortunately, while the new systems are achieving most of what they have set out to do, a significant impact in runs has been seen in more casual settings that we did not see in the Testing sessions before the last update. While in general, the math should line up that a fight would not take much longer at all due to the invuln times being relatively short and at worst being about equal to the times spent waiting for Oryx guards to end. The reality is that a large portion of players in these more casual runs are now either choosing not to interact with O3 post-exalted or are simply dealing meaningful enough damage mid-phase due to how dangerous and punishing they can be to people who aren’t extremely experienced. This causes what appeared to be runs with little to no time difference to suddenly be a lot longer when applied to Production. In addition, a lot of more experienced players are reporting that they are not feeling as immediately rewarded for going in and dealing damage on harder phases.

To address this we have reverted the counter/stagger system back to normal and removed the phase damage caps that were implemented with it. We believe these changes were in the right direction, but to fully realize requires some additional measures that we do not have the tech to do just yet. With these removed the new combo chains have also been removed as this brings back the guarded chains.

Due to some feedback surrounding Counters coming back, we have also reduced the possible counter effects to just one, Silence. This should still punish the group but not be as swingy or annoying as the older effects of sick/armor break/weak/quiet.

The following changes from the last update are still present:

  • New o3 hp thresholds
  • 50% bonus exalt rate
  • Flashing blue when towers are up
  • Hp scaling for players 1-5
  • Removal of reset and pre-attack damage windows.

Changes and Fixes

  • Completing Hidden Interregnum now awards you the completion in the dungeon list.
  • Fixed banner not displayed on dungeon key’s tooltip if there is a dungeon event active without any mods, all dungeon events should have banner now
  • Fixed disconnection in High Tech Terror when ability projectiles are spawned out of map
  • Treasure Room boss of Parasite Chambers should be boosted by the XP & Loot mods of the Solo Key
  • Offensive words are now filtered through Whisper/tell chat regardless of whether player allows them in settings.
  • Fixed an issue where error was being displayed while clicking on OK button on ‘About your data’ popup
  • Fixed an issue were the Acc BXP EP Accelerator was stacking the percentage values

Realmers!

Another update is coming your way! You were able to test some of it already last week during our Public Testing session and now it’s time to enjoy the changes and new things. Let’s welcome the new ST Sets for the Archer and Wizard to the game. Additionally we are starting the long awaited second alliteration of the Void Event. A new STory also finds its way into the game: A Steamwork STory. The Nexus will be decorated in a Void Theme. Let’s have a look at all the changes.

New STs

The Archer and Wizard both receive new ST items with this release.

Kogbold Turretsmith Archer

Kogbolds rely heavily on automated defenses, and these are crafted by Turretsmiths. Testing these items out in the field allows the Kogbolds to determine which designs will better help in keeping pesky adventurers out of the Steamworks.

This set focuses on Wisdom and Defence. Defense allows the Turretsmith to tank a few hits as they get into position to deploy the Sentry Turret, while the Wisdom keeps their MP high to redeploy it as needed.

Experimental Cannon

  • A variant Longbow which fires 3 shots in a V formation.
  • Good for sweeping minions out of the way to create a ‘landing zone’ for turret deployment.

Sentry Turret

  • Deploys one of three Sentry Turrets to support the DPS of the cannon in different ways.
    • The Gun turret fires rapidly at long range.
    • The Flail turret creates a zone of area denial with its spinning chains.
    • The Heavy turret fires a trio of damaging shots at close-range targets.

  • All of the turrets can be upgraded by combining them with other gear in the set.

Tinkerers Apron

  • Provides a chunk of the MP and Defence for the set.
  • Also adds a small speed boost to aid with getting to the right place to deploy your turrets.

Targeting Monocular

  • Adds further Defense as well as HP.
  • A useful ring for tanking classes, but combines well with the set to keep the Turretsmith alive and fighting.

Kogbold Pyrotechnician Wizard

All those fancy turrets, trains and battle mechs fire bullets and explosives, and the Pyrotechnicians are always looking to find ways to make these ever more deadly. Some get a little too into this particular role, and need to take a little trip outside the Steamworks while fires are put out and machinery repaired.

This set focuses on rapid, indiscriminate damage. It boosts Dexterity over Attack, allowing for a constant stream of fire from the weapon while filling areas with sparks and flames from the Unstable Firework spell.

Rocket Launcher

  • A Spellblade which can create a constant stream of attacks when the full set is worn.
  • The attack pattern weaves slightly, creating a cone of constant damage ahead of the player.

Unstable Firework

  • Places the Unstable Firework spell which releases novas and grenades.
  • The overlapping fire pattern fills an area with damage while ensuring at least one shot always passes back through the target square.

Blast Proof Robes

  • Adds both Dexterity and Defence to the set
  • A good set of robes which get better when combined with other set items to buff the rate of fire.

Lucky Grenade

  • A hybrid Dexterity and Health ring.
  • When worn with the Unstable Firework, it will release a shower of sparks when the ability is used.

With the release of the new STs it’s also time to have another Campaign running. The “A Steamwork STory Bonus Campaign” is now live in the game!

Void Event

You waited a while for this, but the Void Event is back! For the next 3 weeks, you will be able to take part in the Event running in different dungeons depending on the week. Collect Void Stones to turn them into rewards at the Tinkerer. The Event runs from 20.06 until 11.07.

In the Realm, you will be able to fight the Void Heralds. Additionally, two Remnants of the Void Portals will spawn. Those Portals will always spawn with the following mods:

  • Weak Boss III : Boss has 45% less HP.
  • Tame Boss IV : Boss inflicts 32% less damage.
  • Weak Minions III: Minions have 40% less HP.
  • Tame Minions III: Minions inflict 32% less damage.

The Void will always drop 2x Void Stones and will give 1.5x Loot and EXP during the whole duration of the event.

The Remnant of the Void will always drop 1x Void Stone.

Enchanting Realmers!

Please welcome the first iteration of the Enchantment System to the game, mainly accessible via the brand-new Advanced Kogbold Steamworks. Since we are approaching Month of the Mad God, you will already find some things that are related to this event during this release.

Season 6 is officially coming to an end! That means season 7 can now start! Since this season will be active during Month of the Mad God, you will already see some new things like the Aspirants Items available via Missions. 4 brand new shiny items, the Crystal Cavern Leaderboard, and much more! Additionally, we are introducing a new bundle in the shop to the game, the Seasonal Pack, giving you a great start to the season!

Advanced Kogbold Steamworks

You have tested it before and now it’s time to take it live. For the players who do not know what this new version of the Steamworks is, here is a quick summary!

This advanced version of our current dungeon made changes to enemy behavior and added a brand new survival phase at the end. Additionally the enemies deal 25% more damage and have 15% more HP. XP and BXP rates are boosted by 90% and the loot is increased by 30%. The dungeon drops two extra greater potions, dust for the enchantment system, engraving chests and a new mark for a new, rewarding daily quest.

You will be able to access the Advanced Kogbold Steamworks after defeating our Train Encounter in the Realm or by purchasing a key in the shop. Don’t worry though, the Train Encounter drops a portal to both versions of the Steamworks dungeon.

Enchantments and Engravings

The first batch of items which use the new Enchantments system is here! These use a new type of consumable item called Engravings, which are dropped from the Advanced Kogbold Steamworks.

These will be dropped using the selection chest system, so when you get this new chest you can choose which of the Engravings you wish to receive. The list of Engravings for this update can be found below:

Applying Engravings

To apply Engravings you will need to farm a new currency called Dust. This will eventually come in a variety of colors, and drop from multiple dungeons. For now the only type is green, and it will drop from the Advanced Kogbold Steamworks only. The amount which drops can be increased by playing a Seasonal character, and you will enjoy a 15% bonus as a result!

You will then need to take your items to the Enchanter in your vault.

The Enchanter will be able to apply Engravings to any items you have on you or in your backpack which have slots.

IMPORTANT NOTE – Existing items from the list above will not have slots. Only items dropped or forged after this release will spawn with slots.

Opening the Enchanting menu will show the following:

1 Item List – all items which can be enchanted will appear here. Only items from your worn inventory or backpack will be displayed. Vault and gift chest items will not appear, for example, nor will items on your other characters.The currently selected item will highlight blue, as shown here.
2 Filters – when tiered items become enchantable, these will allow quick filtering and searching.
3 Dust – displays how much green dust you have available.
4 Slots – this shows how many available slots the item has for enchantments. UT’s will only ever have one slot for Engravings.This area also shows the cost to unlock the slot, in this case 1950 Green Dust,
5 Enchantments – The list of enchantments which can be applied to this item will be shown here.As this is a UT which can take Engravings, this list will be empty except for an entry for each Engraving you have on you which can be applied to this item. So, for instance, if I had two Gatling Shots Engravings, there would be two of them shown here. If I had none, or just an Iron Plating Engraving, this list would be blank.

Once you have unlocked a slot with Dust, applying and Engraving does not cost any further Dust. However, it will use up one of the Engravings you choose to apply to the item. And, this Engraving will then be permanently added to the item in question. You cannot swap it, remove it, or further adjust it, so be sure you know what you are doing!

Missions

A new season means a new Mission tree! You will be able to gain access to certain Aspirant Items early, but don’t worry. Those Items will be also accessible via additional sources during next month’s update. 

Aspirant’s Items

This season and Month of the Mad God players will be able to acquire pieces of the Aspirant’s Set. These sets are made from a weapon, armor, and four rings. These rings represent different combat disciplines, Stalwart, Sniper, Swiftblade, and Magus. Wearing the weapon and armors with the rings will give you appropriate bonuses for that combat discipline.

In addition we are leveraging the new enchantment system to add more depth to these items. Like the rings, four engravings exist matching a combat discipline, and these engravings can be applied to any of the Aspirant’s Items, weapons, armor, or ring. When applied to a weapon they will increase their damage and change the shot pattern based on which engraving is used. Armors gain a stat boost corresponding to the combat discipline, and rings gain additional effects. Players are free to mix and match these engravings as they wish, but the rings can only accept an engraving of the same type, for example a Ring of the Stalwart and only have the Path of the Stalwart Engraving Applied.

These items will be initially available in the upcoming seasons missions, and then will be more accessible during Month of the Mad God Itself.

Seasonal Leaderboard

Starting on the 11th of July and running until the 25th of September you will be able to take part in our next Leaderboard event! Last time you had to speedrun the Parasite Chambers, now it’s time to do the same but in the Crystal Cavern! This event only counts in solo keys used by our new Seasonal mission “Swift Trials”. Finish 1 dungeon with a difficulty above 9 to receive a Crystal Cavern Solo Key. You can repeat this quest every 18 hours.

Shiny Items

Additionally, In this season we have four new Shiny Items to farm. The Demon Blade, Fractal Blades, Plague Poison and Water dragon Silk robe. These can be found on Seasonal Characters at their normal drop locations, albeit rarely.

Keep in mind they are only active during the week’s Discipline.

During the last week, all disciplines will be on focus and the Discipline tokens will not be part of the requirements for these quests.

Returning Rewards

Aside from that, all Construction Gear except the Foreman’s Hard Hat will drop in some formerly reconstructed dungeons with Chest Events. While Foreman’s Hard Hat will be obtainable via Mad God Mayhem.

Heroes Weapon Set (T13 Reskin)

Each weapon type will get a thematic reskin, and will also grant players +8% XP when killing monsters. They are soulbound.

We are once again bringing back a Bounty! This time with the MotMG Theme. For almost every pack or bundle purchase over 249 Gold you will receive 1 MotMG Gift. When redeemed they will give you one of many items with a chance of getting the MotMG Treasure.

Enchantments

The full Enchantment system will be released with this update. It adds the ability to enchant tiered equipment with abilities of your choice to better help them adapt to your playstyle.

This is not the full, final form which Enchantments will take. As people may remember, the initial version was Seasonal only, which meant that items at the end game could become more powerful as they would be in Seasonal mode only. As a result Enchantments will evolve as the end game progresses, adding more powerful options as well as new items which can be enchanted. So Tier 14 weapons, for instance, might have more powerful stat adds, greater range, or just 2 slots to enchant instead of 1. As a result, your powers will improve alongside the increased challenge of the content as the endgame moves into new territory.

Balancing and Slot Costs

As noted by people in the release of the Engravings system, the cost to unlock slots was quite high. We were trying to balance them between the fact that we want them to be available for players, without making them too common until more content of Difficulty 10 has been released to avoid significant power creep. As a result of feedback, all slot costs have been dropped to allow more enchantments to be utilized, and will be reviewed as more content, such as the Realm Rework, adds places where Engraved UT’s and Enchanted items are required for efficient farming.

Dust

Dust will now be dropped from all Exaltation dungeons at differing rates based on the difficulty of the content, not just Advanced Steamworks. The only color will remain Green for now, and the drop rate will be an average value. Seasonal players will receive a 15% bonus to the amount of dust dropped!

Enchantments

As there are a LOT of Enchantment options, here is a brief overview:

  • Stats can be added to all items, although which stats can be applied to what items depends on the item.
    • Weapons can add damage boosting stats like Attack and Dexterity
    • Armour can add defensive options like Defence and Hitpoints.

  • Weapons will have utility boosting options too, such as range, rate of fire, projectile size and so on.
  • Armours provide on-hit bonuses and status conditions.
  • Abilities provide large chunks of MP as well as Wisdom bonuses, and have on-hit effects which mimic the ability at no MP cost.
  • Rings are versatile – allowing for all stat bonuses to be applied to them.

Applying Enchantments

Enchantments are applied at the Enchanter NPC, located in your vault.

The Enchanter will be able to apply Engravings to any items you have on you or in your backpack which have slots.

8 If you want to know more details about an Enchantment, you can hover over it to see what the effect will be.

Enchantments are purchased per item. This means that if you have two weapons of the same type you will need to pay to unlock their slots and any individual Enchantments you want to apply to them one at a time. However, once you have bought them they are free to add, remove and swap as much as you like.

Advanced Nest

Introducing the Advanced Nest, similar to the Advanced Steamworks this is a harder version of the Nest that has increased rewards and some new engravings.

In addition to damage and health multipliers across the dungeon, the Advanced Nest also features a fourth family of bees. The green bees you will find within will be slower but more durable than the normal bees, and they will inflict Unstable and rarely Sick.

The Killer Bee Queen also features some new attacks and changes to existing attacks in order to incorporate this fourth bee family.

The dungeon will not be accessible at the start of Month of the Mad God.

Engravings

Buzzing Bullets Engraving: Adds a burst of bee projectiles that deal 80 armor piercing damage each to the following weapons (Bogwood Crook, Pirate Kings Cutlass, Wand of the Fallen, Queen’s Stinger Dagger, Doku No Ken, Leaf Bow)

Living Hive engraving: Grants +60 hp and spawns small bees when you are hit that deal 115 damage every 0.4 seconds (Spawn cooldown: 2 seconds). Applies to the Lair of Draconis and Beeheemoth armors. If it is applied to a Beeheemoth armor it also grants +5 Speed.

Might of the Bumblebees: Grants +5 Def and +5 Dex. Applies to the Tomb of the Ancient  Rings.

Changes and Fixes

  • Changed the name of the Legendary Mystery Key to Aspirant Exalted Mystery Key
  • Shiny Laser Pointer can now drop from the Boss. (We will discuss a potential compensation internally and announce soon)
  • When hovering over the “Buy” button in any shop interface, you will no longer see the item description in front of the button.
  • Fixed an issue where the MP cost for Scepters was incorrect when the player had the Robe of the Mad Scientist or the Coral Ring equipped.
  • Emotes now have a black outline around them.
  • Banned accounts no longer receive the “Account under Maintenance” prompt when logging in. They are now told that they are banned. 
  • Fixed several issues with wall textures missing.
  • Fixed an issue where the Guild tab incorrectly displayed that the player is not in a guild for a split second after rapidly changing tabs.
  • Fixed an issue where opening the social panel multiple times while the Leaderboard panel is active would create multiple instances of the social panel in the background.

Realmers!

It is time for the next update for Realm of the Mad God. This time introducing the first iteration of our newest feature: The Crucible Mode! Test your limits without the help of your trusted pet. Our newest Pet Stone will surely assist you well.

The first version of the Oryxmania Event was hosted a while back. Now its returning with a new easier O3 fight! Additionally, you will find several Moonlight Village adjustments below.

Crucible Mode

You were able to test The Crucible some weeks ago during our Testing session! Now it’s time to take part in the inaugural iteration of this new feature. But first, let us explain what The Crucible actually is. Please keep in mind that we will adjust and improve the feature in the future with more restrictions, more Trials, and more rewards!

What is the Crucible?

The Crucible is an optional mode that offers you a series of challenging Trials with specific restrictions. Once you accept the challenge, your gaming experience will become more demanding. Each Crucible will have its own set of modifiers and rewards.

The Trials are specifically designed for the most skilled and daring players. Both seasonal & regular characters can participate in The Crucible.

What is a Trial?

The Crucible consists of a series of ‘Trials’ – challenging objectives that you must complete. Conquer all the Trials in a Crucible to earn special rewards and bragging rights.

Meet the Guardian of The Crucible!

A new NPC has taken residence in the Nexus – The Guardian of the Crucible! Players can visit the Guardian to accept (or opt out of) the available Trials. All characters are eligible to take on the Trials, so no one gets left behind!

Crucible Character

Once you accept the Crucible, your character’s sprite in the Char UI will have a yellow border. This is how you can distinguish your characters!

The Crucible Duration

To keep the adventure fresh and exciting, the Crucible will vary in duration. Some will be available for an entire season, while others will run during shorter events, providing quicker new trials.

Crucible Mode Event

The first version of The Crucible will take care of your pet! Ever wondered how useful a pet stone can be? He might not bring the best stats but he tries his best to assist you. For this challenge, your Pet will be replaced by a Pet Rock without any stats. So no more healing for you. The event runs from the 5th of September until the 26th of September.

For this specific Crucible restriction, players will receive an additional 20% BXP increase while this Crucible is active. 

When using a Crucible character, you will be able to drop certain tokens, used to redeem items at the Tinkerer. The quests will depend on the week.

Your goal during these 3 weeks will be to beat the Marble Colossus, the Void Entity, the Factory Control Core, the Forgotten King and O3. During the third week, you will be able to fight all Bosses and gain Tokens.

Crucible Tokens:

Week 1 and Week 3

Crown of the Marble Colossus (Stackable up to 5) (Please note that the description of the item is incorrect)

Marble Colossus will have a guaranteed drop of 1, with a 50% chance of a second one.

Crown of the Void (Stackable up to 5)

Void Entity will have a guaranteed drop of 1, with a 50% chance of a second one.

During Week 2 and Week 3:

Crown of the Control Core (Stackable up to 5)

Factory Control Core will have a guaranteed drop of 1, with a 50% chance of a second one.

Crown of the Forgotten King (Stackable up to 5)

The Forgotten King will have a guaranteed drop of 2×1

During Week 3: FREE O3 RUNE EVENT

Crown of the Exalted God (Stackable up to 5)

O3 will have a guaranteed drop of 2×1, with a 50% chance of a third.

The O3 in the Oryxmania Rumble will drop a guaranteed 1 token with a 50% chance of a second.

The following dungeons will have a multiplier event in them for 1.5x loot and XP while their bosses will be dropping tokens (only to Crucible characters). They also have a chance to drop (only to Crucible characters) exclusive rings.

Oryxmania II

In another fit of drunken nostalgia, Oryx once again started reliving his gladiator days. Unfortunately, this time he could also remember the championship he organized the year prior. While it was his idea, now he was envious of the champions. Why should they have all of the fun? So he decided to dust off his gladiator armor and jump into the arena himself. He has organized a championship and opened the doors for the brave, Since fighting everyone would be a waste of time, only those with the skill and perseverance to fight through two of his champions, are allowed to approach Oryx. Are you one of them?

The second Oryxmania Event lasts three weeks and reintroduces the Arena champions we all loved from last year, but this time, in Oryxmania Rumble! The Event runs from the 5-Sep until the 26-Sep.

Compared to last year, after defeating a champion you will now have the choice to either go to a Treasure Room where you can get your event tokens or have the chance to progress to a different arena. Should you manage to finish that one, you once again can decide between going for the Treasure Room or go on and fight in the last arena against Gladiator Oryx (an easier reskinned version of O3).

You are able to access the Oryxmania Rumble through portals provided by the Arena Announcer and portals dropping in the champion’s respective dungeons. Additionally, a key to the Rumble is in the shop. You will gather “Oryxmania Cheers” as the event token and will be able to exchange them at the Tinkerer for rewards.

Realm Encounter

After the Cyclops Gods have been defeated and after the Ent Ancients and Liches have been slain, Keyper will spawn in his role as the Arena Announcer. He is going to drop four mysterious Arena portals. You will not know which Arena you are entering until you have loaded into it. This arena will be the first of 3 Waves in the Oryxmania Rumble, whichever Arena you get as first, will be guaranteed to not be in the second wave.

Dungeons

The Oryxmania Rumble sends you to a random Arena.

  • Backstage Arena – You will face the gladiatorial persona of the Puppet Master.
  • Pirate Arena – Calamity Crab will be your enemy in this arena.
  • Underwater Arena – You will face Thessal.
  • Jungle Arena – Xolotl will bring the thunder to you.

During the Event, the following dungeons will give 1.5x Loot and XP. Additionally, a dungeon mod will be active which will send you to their specific arena from the Oryxmania Rumble.

Moonlight Village Dungeon Changes

  • Event Shrines are now immediately visible after spawning.
  • Collecting wisps now activates shrines faster.
  • Fixed Kaguya beam lines not working correctly.

Moonlight Village Item Changes

  • Vigor flames are now only green to prevent confusion.
  • Fortitude lowered minimum burst delay from 15 -> 12 sec.
  • Taiko Drums increase passive stats 5 -> 6 and added flat heal for adagio; both subabilities provide regular inspired to group but the relevant inspired to self.
  • Makakoyumi removed in combat proc, lowered slow duration from 0.8 -> 0.5 sec.
  • Rain maker lower delay of rain, slightly larger AOE radius, target mouse 4.5 tiles away; pet healing enabled; increased passive dex 5 -> 6.
  • Token of Warmth and Happiness lowered slow, energize and healing duration from 1 -> 0.7 sec.
  • Sheath reduced max dash range to be in line with other sheaths; added AOE scaling with vit at the end of each dash but lowered projectile damage from 250-350 -> 200-300 to compensate.
  • Tezutsu Hanabi fireworks pile starts on level 2 straight away.

Fixes & Changes

  • Helper texts in the tutorial were lost in the limbo and are now back.
  • Fixed an issue where your enchanted Ninja ability would shoot a weapon shot when using an Aspirants Blade.
  • Path of Swiftblade Engraving now shows the reduction to range in the enchantment window.
  • Dust now correctly drops in Moonlight Village.
  • Bogwood Crook now received audio when used.

September is soon coming to an end and we are preparing everything needed for Halloween 2023 behind the scenes. Until then you will be able to enjoy the next update of Realm of the Mad God. Please welcome our newest dungeon to the game “The Tavern”. A brand new dungeon set around the Mountain Temple when it comes to difficulty. You can have a look at the new UTs from the dungeon down below. 

Season 8 starts today with a brand new Mission Tree which is now available for non-seasonal characters! Some Missions are still exclusive for seasonal and crucible characters. A new Battle Pass comes with the start of the season, and the second season of the Crucible Mode arrives, called “Glass Cannon”. We didn’t forget about new Shinies either, including two directly from the community!

The Tavern

The Tavern is a brand new mini-dungeon in which you will fight a series of the bar’s most pugnacious patrons as minibosses before taking the fight to the belligerent barkeep himself. The dungeon is set to be around Mountain Temple in difficulty and will drop from the Beer God. The Beer God has received some adjustments. More about this down below.

The Beer God has also been tweaked as he is the drop location of the Tavern. The Beer God will now spawn up to twice in the same manner as other realm encounters.

The Beer God continues to drop Greaterhosen and Mighty Stein at a high rate (for realm events at least), and now additionally drops the Deadly Keg.

Season 8

Season 7 is coming to an end! So please welcome the next Season. This time it’s all about Oryxtober and the Tavern. Ever wanted to try out Lederhosen or a Dirndl? Well now is the time!

Check out our new Battle Pass and the Mission tree split into three parts for non-seasonal, seasonal and crucible characters!

Mission Tree

We are moving away from Missions being exclusive for seasonal characters. You will now be able to complete a vast amount of missions on any kind of character. We have Missions that still can only be completed on seasonal characters but most of them can be done on any character.

Crucible Characters can now complete missions! We are moving slightly away from the Tinkerer to get your crucible rewards. There will still be some Tinkerer Crucible quests, but the majority of Crucible activities will be found in the mission tree. 

The Missions received an update from the latest PT Session so make sure you check them out!

A new Battle Pass has arrived! This time around with the Oryxtober theme. We are now also introducing the repeatable milestone feature. 

Once you have finished the Battle Pass, every 20000 BXP you will be able to complete another milestone to receive one Royal Epic Quest chest.

The Crucible – Glass Cannon


The first version of The Crucible is coming to an end and the new Crucible will be a little different. Gone is your ‘trusty’ millstone of a pet rock. This time with a few tweaks to stats we turn you into a Glass Cannon – higher rate of fire, more damage, but a bit more squishy. The idea being is to change up the gameplay a little. We’ve got more fun challenges planned for future Crucibles, and will tweak the feature based on your feedback, so get stuck in and tell us what you think. You will be able to complete special Missions on the Seasonal Mission tree when using a Crucible Character. Additionally we might activate more trials later on.

  • Updated the description of accelerators.

Spooky Realmers!

Halloween is just around the corner and Realm already got invaded by Totalia and the Zombie Horde! Oryx Castle is now infected and you will need to work together to move forward. O2 has a small chance to drop some event whites during Halloween! Colored Titles are now in the game as well! Go check them out.

Halloween 2023 – Summons From Beyond

Halloween Realm Events

Totalia 

During the event, you will be able to fight our witch Totalia three times per Realm. She drops T11 weapons like the Pumpkin Master and also has a chance to drop parts of the Totalia Mystic set. A reskin of the Phylactery Mystic set.

Zombie Horde 

Go and challenge the Zombie Horde in the Realm! Bonegrind the Undead Butcher is surrounded by your zombie counterparts. He drops T11 Weapon reskins and has a chance to drop the Infected Assassin Skin.

Infected Oryx Castle 

The Oryx Castle, its enemies, and Oryx are infected! You will need to use the unique barrel mechanic you already know all about from the Parasite Chamber to open your way to Oryx.

The Barrel is also the only way to conquer the Stone Guardians and Oryx himself!

We also made some adjustments to the Loot from O1 and O2 during the Event! Infested Oryx 1 now has a chance to drop Tome of Holy Furor. It does no longer drop from Infested Oryx 2.

Infested Oryx 2 now drops the following items with a very low chance:

  • Helm of the Jack-o’-naut
  • Spooky Smasher
  • Cloak of Eerie Trepidation

Rise of the Undead – Trick ‘n Treat – Modded Event

The new events bring in some cool changes for Halloween. When you defeat the boss of a specific dungeon, waves of enemies will spawn, and they’ll spawn more enemies as well. Additionally, there’s a Cauldron once you beat the boss of the dungeon. They act like a chest event, spawning several waves of enemies before you can attack the cauldron.

We will share a full list of the dungeons and the loot you can get once the event goes live.

Free Campaign

Go and hunt special tokens and redeem them for points in your Free Campaign. You will be able to unlock the full new Sorcerer Incubus set! The Free Campaign starts on the 24th of October. The Tokens will be dropping from bosses inside our Event Dungeons! During this Free Campaign you will be able to exchange your reskinned event white for another one at the Tinkerer.

Coloured Titles

We are adding a new feature to titles. Depending on the title it will now be displayed on your character with a different color! This new color will also be present when you write in the chat. The color depends on the rarity of the title and was based on the rarities of skins!

We currently have six different tiers of titles.

Greetings Realmers!

With this week’s update, you will be able to take part in our Free Campaign and new Missions. You will also have a look and play around with the new cosmetic feature, Shaders.

Arcane Styles

We are adding an extra layer of cosmetic customisation in the form of Arcane Styles. These will overlay effects such as glowing, pulsing lights and more over your skins. They will work with dyes and cloths, and can be used with any skin. The current batch represents a wide array of options, and we are developing scrolling overlay styles as well as a ‘flipbook’ to surround your character with an aura or other visual effects. More announcements on these will follow.

Characters can only have one Arcane Style active at once, and it covers the whole skin. They can be removed in the wardrobe or using an Arcane Style Remover consumable.

To try them out you can go to the Wardrobe and use the customisation option as usual. There is now an extra button to pick a style from the list, with filtering and the ability to pick a specific style to narrow down your options.

Halloween Modifier Event

We are introducing a new type of event where enemies will spawn when specific enemies are defeated in dungeons. Additionally when defeating the boss of one of the event dungeons a cauldron will spawn. Fight waves of monsters and break the cauldron at the end for additional loot!

Backpacking Realmers!

Halloween is coming to an end with today’s update. The Reskins are gone and the Nexus is now displaying the Autumn Theme. With this update you will be able to take part in our new Season, collect two new ST Sets, equip a new Backpack Extender in order to upgrade your characters with more inventory slots and more! Event Calendar

Introducing something you have all been asking for over the past years! The Event Calendar is now accessible via the Ingame UI. We have received a lot of feedback regarding this feature already and will improve it in upcoming updates. 

Some planned upgrades to this system are in the works, including adding more room for the rewards on offer, but the current version should be able to make planning which events you intend to engage with much easier in the future.

Bag of Infinite Pockets

We’re introducing a new Backpack Extender that complements the already existing Backpack by introducing a 3rd page to the Inventory storage. This addition expands the slot count from 16 to 24, allowing you to carry even more items during your expeditions in the Realm. 

Please note that the Backpack must be equipped first before using this new item.

New ST Sets

Get ready to explore two new playstyles with the Storm Shaman and the Mad Minotaur sets, each offering unique abilities and synergies.

You are used to having access to new Sets via a paid campaign. This won’t be the case this time. You will be able to directly purchase the Sets in the Shop. They will drop in the game starting Oryxmas as always with ST Sets after a while.

The Mad Minotaur set turns your Knight into an Area of Effect tank specialized in crowd control and area damage. The set synergizes the Shield’s Shockwave Stun ability with the Furry Flail’s radial attack, creating a formidable combination against groups of enemies. The set specifically focuses on boosting DEX, enhancing the Knight’s rate of attack and flail swing speed. The dual effects of the Shield’s stun and the Flail’s radial damage make this ideal for managing multiple enemies at once!

Or equip the power of thunder and turn your Sorcerer into a lightning-fast Storm Shaman, skilled in area control through the summoning of immobile Storm Totems. These totems automatically zap nearby enemies with electrical bolts, dealing damage and paralyzing them. The set is designed to boost Speed and MP, allowing for quick area fortification and extended summoning capabilities. While the totems lack mobility, they compensate with increased fluctuating damage, ideal for a long-range defensive playstyle.

We have adjusted both sets after receiving some feedback from our testing session.

We got a lot of feedback during the testing of these 2 sets. So here are the things we did to improve them after the public testing session ended:

  • Flail Head slightly buffed with +10% rate of fire. Min Damage increased by 25.
  • Removed SFX from the Totem.
  • Totems are no longer Summons.
  • Wand accelerates earlier. Lifetime of projectile reduced.
  • Description of Shield changed.
  • New Stats on Armors and Rings.

Fixes & Changes

  • Shiny Items now have Forge Value.
  • Tome of Purification no longer cleanses Drought in MV and Interregnum.
  • Shaders no longer appear on tooltips of clothing items when hovering over them.
  • An Issue where Pets that were labeled as “not obtainable through fusion” were able to be fused, was fixed.
  • Fixed an issue where damage and healing numbers were not displayed correctly on enemies and your character.
  • The Tooltip of Cursed Spire Spell now mentions the amount of shots that it shoots.

Arcane Styles

Recently we introduced our first batch of Arcane Styles to the game, offering your additional customization for your character. Now we are adding new ones called “Flipbook” and “Scroller” Style. These Styles offer a new unique way of displaying Effects on your character. You can find them in the wardrobe section for Arcane Styles. Right now they might not look perfect on 16×16 Skins but we will fix this issue with the next update.

We also have a package in the Shop for a reduced price, in case you are interested in purchasing several ones.

Oryxmas – A Snowstorm

It’s getting frosty outside. Our favorite time of the year is back and we are jumping right into the action with this year’s Oryxmas Event. Over the next couple of weeks, you will be able to take part in different events. So check out all the information below.

Snow Tiles will show up across the floors of our different Event Dungeons. They will have a very special interaction with the Snowmen.

We are splitting Snowman spawns into different Tiers. The higher the Tier, the harder the fight.

These Presents will add an extra layer of festivity to the dungeons. As with any good present. Hit it until you get the loot. They cant spawn in the Hive, Spider Den or Pirate Cave.

  • Small Presents have a chance of spawning when you defeat Godland enemies
Loot Elf

  • Chance to spawn per room in a dungeon

A special loot goblin runs away from you and might drop rewards. He is available in the Crawling Depths, Ice Cave, Ocean Trench, Third Dimension, Davy Jones Locker, and Woodland Labyrinth. 

Reworked Grinch:

  • Spawns after a boss is defeated
  • Depending on the dungeon, he will drop different loot

We adjusted the difficulty of the Grinch. He should feel less dangerous now.

He is available in the Ice Tomb, Lair of Draconis, The Nest, and Crawling Depths.

Snowy The Frost God:

Snowy the Frost God is an Event Boss that spawns during the Oryxmas. It spawns once per realm after all the Ghost Kings are killed.

Jack Frost:

Jack Frost is back and brings some new shiny with him! He will be available in the Realm starting next week.

Permafrost Lord:

The Permafrost Lord is an Event Boss that spawns during the Christmas season. It spawns once per realm and has a chance to drop an entrance to the Ice Tomb.

HP and MP in the Realm

Players in the Realm will have their HP and MP regeneration rate increased by 10%.

Enchantments Rework

The Enchantments system is being reworked based on feedback and data from the initial launch of the system. A lot of things have changed, but the core concept remains roughly the same. Enchantments will still apply a bonus to items that have Enchantment slots. But, the biggest changes are as follows:

  • ALL tiered gear now has a chance to have an Enchantment slot.
  • The Enchantments added to tiered items will be RANDOM.

This means you will no longer be able to pick the exact bonus that will appear on your items, but a good portion of items will drop with an Enchantment attached.

The distribution of Enchantments is similar to the previous iteration. Please see the following tables to explain what items can have which effects.

Some enchantments have also been dropped for now, as they would be too costly to recreate across a larger scale. Ability replication, for instance, was done on an item-by-item basis, and would therefore need a new effect to be created for each individual ability. The overall effect of an on-hit Ability trigger will be looked into and added in future updates. The same goes for narrow cones, which were created using individual subattack replacements. These will come back when we have the ability to apply the effect more directly.

Items can have Enchantments with a maximum level based on the tier of the item in question:

Dust Distribution

In brief, Green dust appears at the beginning of the game and is dropped at increasing rates until difficulty 6 dungeons. At that point Red dust also appears, with Purple following in Exaltation dungeons and the Wine Cellar. The time and effort needed to complete each dungeon is taken into account with the dust drop rates, which are still boosted by 15% when playing a Seasonal character.

Rerolling

But what if you get an item with an ability you don’t want?

Dust has been split into three groups – Green, Red and Purple. Green dust can be used to reroll all of the Enchantments on an item. As this is currently going to be capped at 1 to allow us to make this change without rebalancing the whole realm, that will essentially work by allowing you to reroll the one random Enchantment. This will be done on a purely random basis, so you could end up with something worse, or even just the same ability again!.

Red dust can be used to upgrade your Enchantments, if they are not already at the maximum the item allows. IE – if you have a Dexterity bonus of +4, you can use Red dust to reach +6, assuming this is a viable option for the item. If +4 is the cap for that object, then that is as high as it will go.

Purple Dust will fulfill most of the roles which Green dust does at the moment. It can be used to unlock the slots on UT’s (described below).

The more you reroll the Enchantments on an item, the more each subsequent roll will cost. The current cap for this cost is after 5 rolls, which is when the cost will remain fixed at a higher price permanently. Thankfully all dust still has a high cap on collection, and you can now boost this using Dust Cap Extenders, which add 200 to the cap of the specific dust type it is associated with.

UT’s and Engravings

UT’s and the Engraving system remain relatively unchanged. While UT’s will gain random enchantments in the second slot onwards with later updates, they currently retain the same core mechanics right now: you pay Purple dust to unlock a slot, and consume and Engraving to apply it to that item permanently.

The Enchanter

Not all dust operations are available immediately. The Enchanter will now use Green dust for free, but needs to be paid in dust to unlock the other types. This can be done in any order, so if you just want to use UT’s you can pay them in Purple dust to unlock this ability without paying Red to upgrade tiered items.

Changes and Fixes

  • Removed some unused Assets from Dungeons
  • Fixed an issue with Vaults on certain accounts
  • Event Calendar now displays the Month and Year
  • Fixed several scaling issues with Arcane Styles on bigger skins
  • Fixed an issue where in certain cases Arcane Style effects would carry over to Decoy Effects it shouldn’t affect.
  • Fixed an issue with scrolling in the Event Calendar
  • Fixed an issue where the Crystal of Fortune is not added to Gift Chest if Skin is dismantled in Nexus

Known Issues

  • Oryxmas Encounters are still using their original chatlines. This will be fixed next week.
  • Ocean Trench and Ice Tomb drop fixed amounts of Dust. This will be changed with the next release.

Oryxmas is running wild for a whole week already! We hope you are already close to finishing your Battle Pass and Missions. Now it’s time to bring to you the Snowstorm Campaign! Collect Tokens, turn them in for some nice rewards and hunt Jack Frost to get your hands on the new Oryxmas Shinys.

Oryxmas Campaign

Campaign Tokens:

Three types of tokens will be used for campaign progression, as well as currency for quests as the Tinkerer!

The following tokens, all stackable up to 10, will be used:

  • Frosty Desert (20 Points)
  • Festive Appetizer (5 Points)

The Campaign Tokens will drop from all dungeons and/or realm bosses. Please note that depending on the difficulty level of the encounter, the amount of tokens will be different.
