If a Square approaches a Hyper Cube, or after the Shadow Cube Blaster has been slain, it will become squared, increasing its size and significantly increasing its rate of fire.

Although weak alone, the Hyper Cube will constantly spawn more Squares, quickly overwhelming the player with projectiles. So its advised to either clear the Squares out before proceeding or kill the Hyper Cube before it can spawn any more.
