Behavior

The Swarm Tree is found in a secret room within the Woodland Labyrinth, identifiable by its entrance not being visible from the room before it, and exactly one will always be found in each Woodland Labyrinth. When approached, it will initially be defended by a variety of Woodland enemies (usually including Mecha Squirrels, but not always) and will be dormant until taking damage.

When attacked, the Swarm Tree will begin launching evenly spaced, extremely damaging green bombs in groups of three around it, launching them at varying distances and orientations. It will also occasionally release a short-ranged pulse of green bullets.

Periodically, it will create a ring of harmless green stars around itself which, after a brief delay, will become pink and damaging before vanishing. The Swarm Tree can summon this ring at a close, medium, or far distance from itself.

Upon death, the Swarm Tree will spawn a large number of Micro Megamoth Sentinels.

Tips and Strategies

It’s recommended to clear out all the minions before engaging the Swarm Tree in battle, as they will get in the way of a fight that already demands attention.

When the Swarm Tree begins attacking, stay on your toes and keep moving at all times. The Swarm Tree’s attacks inflict enough damage to instantly kill the unwary, but every attack it has save for its short-ranged radial burst is telegraphed. The radial burst is not fired until a character is close enough - do not sit on top of the tree for damage just because it seems safe! Dodge the bombs, run out of the area when it summons its green stars, and attack the boss until it dies.

Trivia

Before Exalt Version 1.3.0.0, the Swarm Tree did not fight back and had the following sprites:
Old Swarm Tree Old Swarm Tree (Dark)

  • The sprite for the Swarm Tree was a reused asset; the tree is a decorative object in the Jade and Garnet Statues setpiece.
  • The sprite of the “evil” tree variant was first used for the original, unreleased design of the event boss that would drop the Mountain Temple, before it was replaced with the statues. This evil variant had a chance to spawn if the Swarm Tree was left alone for long enough, causing it to spawn Mecha Squirrels.
  • If the Swarm Tree is killed when the boss is in it’s final phase, then instead of spawning the Micro Megamoth Sentinels, it will spawn Micro Megamoth Guardians.
