Tezcacoatl the Great Basilisk

Tezcacoatl the Great Basilisk is the first boss of the Secluded Thicket.

A savage beast that makes its home in the tropical forest. Basilisks are natural predators, but Tezcacoatl in particular has gained notoriety among the local tribesmen. Many hunters have attempted to slay him as a display of might, but none have succeeded. - Original Description

The Realm Eye says:
Tezcacoatl is the oldest known basilisk in the realm. He has fought, survived, and outlived several generations who have tried to claim his head for glory.
The many attempts on Tezcacoatl’s life have only made him stronger, as his skin becomes tougher with every cut and stab.
His thick skin is comparable to solid concrete. Even the highly resilient armor of most swordsmen cannot compete with the raw durability of Tezcacoatl’s hide.

Behavior

Tezcacoatl is found in the first area of the Secluded Thicket, a large circular clearing resembling the boss room of the Forbidden Jungle. He is initially dormant in the center of the room, and will flash red and activate shortly after the first player enters.

In between phases, he will have short invulnerability times.

Phase 1

Tezcacoatl chases the nearest player, firing conical shockwaves of highly damaging beams. He will also fire 2-way arrowheads that deal high damage, as well as radial bursts of slowing orbs.

Phase 2

Tezcacoatl spawns in 3 invulnerable Adult Basilisks that accompany him for the rest of the fight. During this phase, the Basilisks will circle Tezcacoatl while firing single shots that inflict Bleeding and Sick, while the boss himself fires highly damaging bolts in random directions. Every few seconds, Tezcacoatl will stop firing and momentarily Armor himself, while prompting the Adult Basilisks to chase players for that duration.

Phase 3

Tezcacoatl spawns in 3 more Adult Basilisks and retreats into the center of the room. After turning invulnerable and charging up for a bit, the boss becomes vulnerable and begins firing nonstop shotguns of tooth-like bullets at the nearest player, along with short-ranged radial shockwaves of armor-piercing waves that confuse. During this phase, the Adult Basilisks will orbit some distance away from him while firing radial bursts of Weakening waves.

Phase 4

Tezcacoatl turns invulnerable and charges for a bit, then starts firing dense rings of highly damaging bolts, occasionally pausing every few bursts. While pausing, he is Armored, but while firing he is Armor Broken instead.

Phase 5

Tezcacoatl starts chasing players, alternating between pairs and single shots of his conical shockwaves. The Adult Basilisks closely orbit him during this phase, sporadically firing Basilisk Spit shots. The boss itself will have frequent periods of invincibility during this phase.

Phase 6

Tezcacoatl retreats into the center of the room as the Adult Basilisks start orbiting him at different distances, leaving behind stationary bullets that Confuse. The boss itself will start firing massive, radial waves of shots. He will fire faster but less damaging waves along one cardinal axis (N/S, E/W), while firing slower, shorter-ranged but extremely damaging waves along the other one (E/W, N/S). Every 3 bursts, he will momentarily go invincible and switch the orientation of the waves (eg. if the large waves were initially fired along the N/S axis, now they will fire along the E/W one).

Phase 7

Tezcacoatl goes invulnerable and spaces out the Adult Basilisks along the edge of the room. The Basilisks then create a hexagonal “web” using streams of armor-piercing shots, with a basilisk at each vertex. While this is happening, they will target the nearest players with single armor-piercing claw shots, while firing radial bursts of Slowing waves.

During this phase, every Adult Basilisk loses its invulnerability and becomes able to be shot down. Defeating all 6 Basilisks is required to move Tezcacoatl into his last phase. During this phase, Tezcacoatl will not attack normally save for short-range radial shockwaves - he will, however, target anybody who leaves the web with a rapid barrage of AoE bombs.

Once all of his Basilisks are defeated, Tezcacoatl moves onto Phase 8.

Phase 8

Flashing red, Tezcacoatl rapidly chases players while firing rings of Slowing orbs, sporadic barrages of bolts, and aimed bursts of his conical shockwaves.

Once he is slain, the entrance to the second area of the Thicket will open, where El Dorado can be fought.

Tips and Strategies

When he is in his final phase, he doesn’t actually go where the player is, but follows the path that the player went. You could use this to manipulate and predict where he will go.

Make sure you watch out for the confuse shots that the Adult Basilisks plant on the ground. Using confuse controls is very much needed as that one second that the confuse lasts can cause you to sit on the boss and can kill you very easily.
