Vagrant Sellsword Ond’ande is an NPC found in the The Shatters. He can also be fought as an optional miniboss encounter if specific conditions are met.

Behavior

Vagrant Sellsword Ond’ande has a chance to spawn in a secret room in the Treasure Keep of the Royal Castle, guarding a cosmetic treasure chest. When approached, he will wander in place while providing some dialogue.

“Ay! What in blazes are yeh doing here?!”
“Not part of Valen’s unit, are yeh? Aye, there’s a relief for once!”
“Now, don’t glare at me like that! Can’t go expectin’ everyone yeh see with a blade to line up for backup. Look where playing follower got me!”
“Nah, only reason I still stand with m’wits about me is from guarding number one.”
“Suggest yeh do the same, but that’s yer business. Now leave me what’s mine, before yeh spoil this for the both of us!”

(If the player lingers longer) ”What, still trembling in yeh boots? Haul off, already! Not here to blither with a vagabond. Got m’own troubles, cannae have yer type drawing attention ‘ere.”

After he finishes all of his dialogue, he will keep wandering, and cannot be interacted with any further.

Encounter and Battle

If players have encountered Ond’ande and also talked to Captain Nycolas in the same run, Ond’ande will be found in the Grand Hall standing over Nycolas’ fresh corpse. Attacking Ond’ande will trigger a special combat encounter with him in place of the regular Grand Hall gauntlet.
”WHERE’S YER ARMY NOW, SCUM?! Slashed an’ slaughtered and an’ cut to nothing! He heh, h-hah hah HAH!”
(when attacked once) ”OI! Have you got a screw loose?! Now, h-he swung first, y’hear!”
(when attacked a second time) ”Ack! I see how it is, friend! Well, I can scrimmage!”

Phase 1

Ond’ande chases players, alternating between several attack patterns at random:

  • Quickly charges at the nearest player in a straight line, firing arrowheads of sword projectiles in front of him while throwing pairs of red AoE bombs perpendicular to his movement. Each charge will stop after he charges a certain distance or hits a wall.
  • Fires aimed bursts of small spiked balls that turn after a delay, periodically also firing a ring of larger spike balls that oscillate around their position of firing.
Phase 2

Taunt: “Keel over, already! Like ye priggish mate here!”
At 50% HP, Ond’ande switches to a new set of attacks:

  • Fires aimed “shapes” of spike balls that spin around him, while periodically firing four spike balls that fly for a bit before circling their point of firing.
  • Pauses in place and releases waves of swords that sequentially accelerate forward. He will quickly relocate to a nearby location before firing the next wave.
Death

“Euuuhh…what a sorry fate yeh have ahead…They must be FASCINATED by you, heh hehhh…”
Upon defeat, Ond’ande provides one last taunt before expiring and leaving his loot behind. Upon his death, the first Tablet of the Monarchy (which had previously been invulnerable), can be killed, and notably will not have invincibility times as it is damaged. Once that first Tablet is destroyed, the way to the Forgotten King will immediately open without having to fight through the Grand Hall normally, making Ond’ande a way to “skip” the Grand Hall gauntlet with a chance to get extra rewards, albeit one that is not guaranteed and requires some extra effort.

Trivia

Many of Ond’ande’s attacks are nearly identical to those used by The Wanderer. Although both of them can be considered wandering mercenaries for hire, any further connection is currently unknown.
