The Void Phantasm is a special enemy found within The Shatters. It is the first step to activating the “Hard Mode” version of the dungeon.

Behavior

A single Void Phantasm spawns at a decently common chance within the Derelict Village, initially idling in a seemingly random location. It has no minimap icon and is almost transparent, forcing players to carefully search for it.

If a player finds it and stands near it for long enough, it will slowly gain opacity before becoming aggressive once it becomes fully opaque. In its aggressive state, it erratically moves around and follows players, firing backwards shotguns of bolts that accelerate forward after a delay, alongside occasional aimed spreads of armor-piercing bolts that inflict Curse.

When the Phantasm is damaged enough, it will turn translucent again and flee to a new location that seems to always be located in the region where the Stone Idol patrols. Repeating the process will cause it to flee again, retreating to the Stone Idol itself and circling it while attacking. Defeating it a third time will instead cause the Stone Idol to absorb the Void Phantasm, transforming the Idol into a more powerful but vulnerable Accursed state in which it can be killed.

Destroying the Stone Idol after it has been Accursed by the Void Phantasm will activate the Hard Mode of the Shatters.

If the Void Phantasm has spawned, then a torch near the entrance portal will change its color to purple after a few seconds.
