Does pet skins change species?

Does applying pet skins to a different species changes its species? (like for example I used a reptile skin on a woodland does the species change?)

Yes.
Changing a pet’s skin to one from a different family will cost 1000 fame; if you change the skin to one of the same family, then it’ll only cost 100 fame.

For example: if you had a maxed Rare Ninja Cat, and a maxed Rare Praying Mantis, you could get a Legendary Praying Mantis by changing the family (and skin) of the Ninja Cat to the Insect family.
