I had exact same problem.

Are you by any chance play on mac? Because I do and mac has problems with steam overlay and I emailed Deca about it. Best option if you do play on Mac or iMac is just to put money on your steam and logging in from your mate’s Windows computer, buy your gold and log out. It’s still gonna save.

P.S. (That’s what Deca basicly told me to do, it is problem with Mac not Realm.)
