Iirc, in a guild, members don’t have any privileges that initiates have.
(talking about the function of the two titles, not how your guild might treat the two differently)
So while both have the same power… they have one core difference… an Initiate cannot be demoted.
Officers, leaders, and even founders cannot demote an initiate.
So does that mean… Initiate is > Member?
I’d say a better analogy would be a blue snake and red fox. They’re both sneaky, but they’re different things.

I’m guessing nobody ever left you in a position of power in their guild long enough to be able to enjoy promoting people to Member only to demote them at the smallest provocation?
Oh, i have. Not that many times though, for obvious reasons.
But to demote an Initiate, you have to first promote them to Member. And if you demote them then, you’re not demoting an initiate, you’re demoting a member.
Initiates cannot be demoted.
Then you can still temporarily kick them from the guild, or put them in a perma-muted group on TS, among other things. There are plenty of ways to make Initiates understand they have crossed a line (or simply have fun with guildmates).
Yes, but everything you could do the the Initiate, you could do the same exact thing to the Member.
Anyone who can kick an Initiate can also kick a Member, hence, within the game’s actual function of the two titles, they are the same.
Having two different titles means the guild’s leadership can make a clear distinction between who’s an actual member and who’s still in their trial period, if they so choose. If they don’t want to bother with it, they can just insta-promote everyone who joins.
There isn’t a good way to make Initiate and Member that much more distinct without breaking something right now, maybe if more Guild-related features were added it would be easier.
Any guild " can " treat any title as anything. Initiates could be the leaders and the leaders could be the followers. But when looking at the actual functions of each title, as in Founder can demote and kick any non-founder, and Leaders can demote or kick any non-founder/leaders, we can finally create an unarbitrary system of what’s better and what’s worse.
And by this system of power, Member and Initiate have the exact same power.
But, as Initiate is the lowest rank in this system, it also cannot be demoted.
And if you relate how powerful the position is to how hard it is to demote someone, there is no clear distinction between Member and Initiate, besides the fact that Initiate cannot be demoted.
When you already reached rock bottom, maybe trying to dig deeper isn’t exactly necessary.
You know, this seems kind of like a philosophical question.
On one hand, a Member has the disadvantage of the threat of demotion.
On the other hand, a Member becomes an Initiate when demoted.
So, I’ll just end the discussion here.
When a Member drops in rank, they become an Initiate. An Initiate’s lack of demotion is false. Getting kicked is being demoted as an Initiate. Even if this was impossible, an Initiate is promoted to a Member, making Member higher up.
