Unlocking divine pet skin and using on a legendary pet?

Similar question to Since hatching eggs adds pet skins to the wardrobe, can skins that usually cost gold be unlocked by hatching eggs/fusing pets? -

I’d like to get the Forest Fairy pet skin to go with my account name. I currently have a legendary pet. Would it work to fuse low level divine pets (not leveling them up at all) until I unlock the skin, and then apply it to my legendary pet? I’m unlikely to bother feeding my main pet to divine. I guess what I’m wondering is if a legendary pet can use a divine skin, and if there are any downsides to that approach? Thanks!

You can give pets of one rarity a skin of a lower rarity, so I see no reason why this shouldn’t work. The only downsides would be that the legendary pet will have a smaller sprite than the standard divine one (the dimensions of the sprite are dependent on the pet rarity) and this strategy could cost a bit of fame depending on your luck/fame reserves.

Other than that, you should be good to go!
