New way for deca to make money [custom houses]

#9

wow that wouldn’t be a bad idea if you think about it

#10

No. RotMG was never made for this.

#11

RotMG was also never made to be p2w with boxes and pets but it is

infact I’d argue this is a much safer and more fair way for deca to make money than boxes and pets

even then you dont have to participate since its all cosmetic, you can continuance to grind the realm and dungeons, this just creates more content for others

#12

RotMG was built to be an RNG game, where luck is the main factor in advancing. Pets are a way to enhance gameplay and survivability.

How is that so? Even you said that this is “all cosmetic”. I agree that Mystery Boxes are heavily rigged against consumers, but what difference is this from Character Skins?

Yeah, but in the wrong way. RotMG is about surviving in the Realm with only the Nexus as a safe place against the hazards of the Mad God – it’s not about “fun times” and “making a pretty room”.

Don’t forget that DECA isn’t a big company. They need a good reason to implement ideas and concepts like these.

#13

but the nexus has existed for 7 years, wouldn’t it be logical for the adventurers to have homes? I wouldn’t benefit from this b/c im f2p but a pretty house would be a status symbol.

#14

I’m not exactly sure how to describe this.

This concept of having homes completely changes the game, obliterating the great nostalgia of Realm. It just doesn’t sit right with me.

#15

Not really, it’s kind of just cosmetic. It’s not even in the nexus. It’s just a little something you could spend a little time on.

#16

According to the concept, it doesn’t seem so. This seems like a pretty big notion. What’s the point of extra socializing when there’s guild halls and such? Can’t the “decorating” thing just be on Guild Halls? Why individual homes?

#17

Oh that’s true. I feel guild halls are kind of just neglected, a way to get hp.mp pots. I think each guild should have the option to “decorate” their guild hall so they have their own individuality

#18

yeah maybe this concept could be applied to guild halls with each upgrade allowing you to add more furniture and decorate the place

#19

I see your perspective, but it’s also a thing in a lot of other games and MMOs, some players love it some just straight up ignore it / don’t care. Personally I don’t see any harm in it

I also think a cool addition to this would be like how terraria has trophies that have a chance to drop from bosses that you can mount in your house. so you could have like a void entity trophy or a cube god trophy or something like that. Could add another thing to incentivize playing the game more aswell. I think furniture dropping is kinda a stretch cause it would be weird to kill a boss and get a chair or something as drop imo lol. they should just be buyable or maybe a new NPC could be added that sells furniture type stuff somewhere

#20

LITERALLY HOW?
You can’t just outright make a claim like that about a cosmetic item.

Skins didn’t change the game that much, reskin uts didn’t change the game that much, purple names didn’t change the game that much, but houses, oh gosh if they add houses it’s all over.

#21

I like that idea! then you could display it in the guild hall with your name under it or something :D

#22

Trophy collecting was my favorite in Terraria. I would always set up a trophy room ready to mount every trophy on, and I would fight bosses over and over until I got every trophy, and then I’d get the fishing trophies. If boss trophies were added to realms I would sure as heck be trying to get all of them. We are killing Dreadstump until his cannon/hat/beard/whatever is mounted on my wall

#23

you guys keep on coming up with great ideas keep em coming lol

#24

Good idea !

Furniture pieces should drop from hermit, in a white bag.

#25

Pets are a terrible addition. Vit and wis should be adjusted to be far more affective and (if anything) a pet should boost a players natural vit and wis rather than compensating entirely for it.

How is it different from character skins? It isn’t, and thats the point. It’s entirely cosmetic and doesn’t effect gameplay. People still want these types of things. I know I would. It’s fun to chase cosmetics that last forever and could make for some interesting future competitions.

How is the game not about ‘fun times’ its a game. I think you have a very rigid view of what realm is. The entire point of the game is to die and have fun. To get better, and to set goals and accomplish them. Just like many other games.

This idea (while unpolished atm) could be an interesting new way for players to set and reach goals. Add incentive for actually going back and doing dungeons many people don’t even look twice, at. Give another factor of the game that players can continue to build regardless of their deaths, and gives deca the opportunity for mystery boxes, events, etc that aren’t totally p2w features which are actively ruining the game.

Deca has cornered themselves with ideas that were interesting early on. Events and mystery boxes, and its actively killing the game for quite a few players who have been around for years.

#26

I like the idea, but I don’t think it would be appropriate to call it a ‘home’. It would be a better idea to call it something like a faction hall. Where the entire history of your characters (including your alive characters) make up the faction. Additionally, I always thought it would be funny for our ign to be faction names, and to be given the option to name our individual characters something different (even if its randomized to avoid people naming characters inappropriately). so that characters had a name similar to (X of IGN). Not a major change, but it would help make more sense as to why all our characters are played by the same person and have these fame bonuses such as ‘ancestor’ and ‘first born’ which implies they are all somehow related.

good idea but i doubt this would generate a lot of revenue because it does not affect the game really.
