Whys the mana so high? just make the abilities use less

Mp pots do less. That’s my main concern. If I halved the t6 ability’s mana cost, an mp pot would be worth 4s of ability. Right now it’s only worth 2. If you notice, you are pet stasised while using your ability, so that isn’t a concern.

Also I like lots of mana. Sue me.

The best defense is a great offense. Or a counter. So like if somebody punches you, you take the punch but punch back harder

The Occultist

Backstory.
I recently had a dream. I dreamt that I could turn the floor or whatever was under somebody into LAVA. It was pretty cool. As soon as I woke up, I thought, hey, that could be a badass rotmg class (what a nerd). So, I cobbled together a half assed idea. It got some good feedback, but mostly “This isn’t a complete idea”

So, here goes.

Description. (not in-game)
The Occultist fights with a staff. Simple enough. This affords him some range. The Occultist also fights with a Pact. This is his special ability.

The Pact
The Occultist’s special ability, the Pact, works somewhat like a huntress trap. It is an AOE attack that affects an area around the cursor. It is a mana drain ability. The higher the tier, the more damage per second. The damage rate is equal to 240 beats per minute, 4 per second for those who don’t want to do math. This is roughly equal to 20 dexterity I believe.

Here is concept art for a T6 Pact

Bloodrage Pact
Tier: 6
Damage: 225
Aoe Range: 3x3 tiles
Mana Cost: 50 per second
Effects: Pet stasis while holding spacebar
Cooldown: 5s

Here’s the deal. If you activate your Pact and you decide a second later you don’t want to use it anymore, you have to wait 5 seconds to use it again. How unfortunate.

Closing Details
I gave this class a higher speed, wis, and mana because I wanted it to be a glass cannon that relied on dodging and intelligent mana usage rather than normal staff attacks to get damage in.

I may just be sleepy, but what exactly do you mean by this? Does he drain enemy HP and regenerate ally mana - the only logical way I could see this. Or if I go by what you’ve written, it means he reduces enemies’ mana (which they don’t currently have) and deals damage based off of that mana?

I didn’t want to do the math… but could you explain what this beat is? How does 240 beats per minute = 3 beats per second? (Idk what a beat is… but 240 / 60 = 4, not 3.)
How does a beat convert to dex?? How is 3 beats roughly 20 dex?? How are you saying this as if we should’ve known about it all along? I’m missing some key aspect of this idea aren’t I?

A 5 second cd might seem a bit much. Especially for an ability which is like a shuriken in that it’s a push-and-hold to use type of ability.

The sprite is alright, but it looks like a fancy spell. Why not try making a sprite that resembles a scroll of some sort?

I mean it’s like the ninja star. It continually drains your mana as long as the spacebar is held.

I changed the BPM without changing the BPS. Rip. That’s why it’s wrong.

It’s just to give you an idea of how fast the pact will damage enemies. 30 dex roughly converts to 240 beats per minute, so if you listen to 240 bpm, you’ll know how fast the pact damages enemies.

I admit, the sprite is recycled from one of my old ideas. I tried doing a scroll but to no avail, I’m not nearly as talented as other spriters.

Anyways, hope that cleared some stuff up.
