Notes
This Katana does not shoot a straight shot; the shots move in a sine wave pattern, but they will true at the middle and end of the range.
Without the poison burst, it strongly rivals the DPS of the Masamune, but stands no chance against point-blank weapons such as the Void Blade or the Celestial Blade.
Although only doing slightly more DPS than the Masamune up to 43 defense, this katana can still be one of the best due to its longer range. This katana is efficient for godland farming as well as low-defense enemies that are too dangerous to be attacked at point-blank with other katanas. The player will need to get accustomed to the wavy shots, however.
As of Exalt Version 1.3.0.0 (Dec 2020), the Doku also possesses a secondary poison burst that detonates every 3 seconds while firing, poisoning enemies for a significant amount of damage that ignores defense and even invulnerability if the target was hit before going invulnerable. Because of its large radius and rather frequent activation rate, this ability gives Doku even greater crowd-clearing abilities while boosting its DPS against single targets.
With two poisons hitting the target, it will add 333.33 DPS, giving Doku an edge over even Sadamune until 119/180 DEF (50/95 with the Berserk and Damaging). Keep in mind, however, that this requires timing to properly apply each poison; additionally, the wavy shot pattern may make some shots miss, as opposed to Sadamune’s more reliable straight shot.
On a Ninja, Kusanagi outdamages the Doku completely, making it a preferable choice for DPS and straight shooting. In contrast to Samurai, Doku outdamages the respective T14 until 29 Defences.
History
This katana was considered the best katana in the game before Patch 27.7.X10.3 (Feb 2017), because its DPS and range clearly beat out the Masamune. In said release, it was nerfed from its original damage range of 130-150 and its original rate of fire of 125% to their current values.
Prior to Exalt Version 1.3.0.0 (Dec 2020), this item had no poison proc, and had the following sprites:
Before Exalt Version 2.0.0.0 (Aug 2021), this item was soulbound.
Trivia
Its name translates to “Sword of Poison” from the Japanese kanji “毒の剣.”
