When your character dies, you earn fame after the great deeds your character has achieved. Fame can be used to buy certain items in-game, and also a requirement for completing Class Quests.
There is a certain “base fame” your character receives, and the different achievements add a percentile bonus to this base value. Your total earned fame will be the sum of both.
There are 2 factors which gain you base fame. The major factor is experience points and the other minor factor is your active playing time.
The more you have, the more fame you earn. The exp to fame ratio varies, depending on your total experience points. The following chart shows the exp per fame ratio at each exp section:
Section | EXP (from) | EXP (to) | Base Fame (per section) | Base Fame (accumulated) | EXP per Fame |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | 0 | 20000 | 20 | 20 | 1000 |
2 | 20000 | 45000 | 50 | 70 | 500 |
3 (start) | 45000 | 45400 | 1 | 71 | 400 |
3 | 45400 | 79734 | 103 | 174 | 333,3 |
3 (end) | 79734 | 80100 | 1 | 175 | 366 |
4 | 80100 | 101100 | 42 | 217 | 500 |
5 (start) | 101100 | 102800 | 1 | 218 | 1700 |
5 | 102800 | infinite | - | - | 2000 |
Up to around 100k exp (you usually will have a base fame around 225 at this point), you gain fame relatively fast. Then at 100k exp upwards, you will constantly gain 1 fame only every 2000 exp.
Some tips: Up to level 20, it’s advised to kill lesser gods and quest bosses, these give more xp thus fame comes faster. This relationship is very noticeable. If one has a very efficient god-killing class, and sits in the godlands for about an hour, you should expect about 80-100 fame. This is why there are lots of high fame archers and wizards, but not so many high fame Ninjas or Tricksters, as they are out-performed in the godlands.
Active time is the time you spent playing RotMG. For every 6 active minutes, you gain 1 bonus base fame. Active minutes are only gained by periodically killing monsters and/or gaining monster kill assists. The active time bonus base fame is limited to 30 fame. That means after 3 active hours, you won’t gain any further active time bonus base fame and thus the only factor that determines your base fame remains your EXP.
