Notes
Is the highest tiered leather armor available to obtain through trading.

Unlike other leather armors, the Hydra Skin Armor does not provide a defense upgrade from the previous tier; it only adds 1 DEX compared to Griffon Hide.

History
Added as part of a new highest tier of items when the Wine Cellar was introduced to the game in Build 115 (May 2011).

Was officially supplanted at the top of its tier by the Wyrmhide Armor upon release of the Lost Halls in Patch X.16.0 (Aug 2017).

Hydra Skin Armor’s current sprite also dates from the same update, Patch X.16.0, when it was tweaked slightly to bring the shape in line with other tiered leather armor. The original design was:

The lack of increased DEF versus the previous tier has led to a “buff hydra” meme within the community. In response to this, for April Fools 2017 the item was replaced with the BUFFED Hydra Skin Armor, which provided a mere +1 MP compared to the armor’s usual stats. In addition, the words “extra beefy” were added in the description text:

Superlative leather armor fashioned from the skin of an extra beefy twelve-headed swamp hydra.

This change was temporary and overwrote the existing item in the code, so affecting all Hydra Skin Armor in the game. It was reverted after the event ended, but was repeated during the 2018 Easter Event, and for April Fools events in successive years.
