PG&E Shutdown

no

#12

No, California is no longer a modern, developed state with good services and infrastructure ?

In all seriousness, there will be a way to do it, for people who need access to the internet as part of their job or as for some other reason. Simplest is probably use a phone with wifi to set up a mobile hotspot for a laptop. It will be slow but if you only need it to log on for rewards then latency is not an issue. Don’t have a laptop ? Probably time to invest in one, if you live in an area prone to powercuts. Probably cheaper and more useful than a generator.

#14

This isn’t a usual occurrence. It’s just the energy company not dealing with the old tech they have and replacing it with safer new tech. They dealt with the wildfire problem last min.

#15

Welp idk what to say then.

#16

How about telling us why you disagree instead of just saying “no”?

#17

No it hasn’t I literally used it yesterday. Although there is something about it on apple devices.

#18

use data on phone

#19

also some places dont have it right now than the expected amount CALI GANG!!

#20

YEAH 8PM is when my power goes out WOOO

#21

I heard it was just a possible shutdown window over multiple days. Where I live the power was going to shut down at 12 the teachers said, but rn at 5 im collecting my daily calendar. (Plus, many of us need power to cook, so they can’t just let us starve)

#22

They originally had it at 12, but later decided to move it to 8 pm tonight.

#23

im a retard. Anyway, can’t PGE just do the shutdowns when we’re all sleeping?

#24

They decided to do a shutdown because they didn’t want to update all their powerlines/safety devices etc so they instead did a shutdown at the last minute out of pure laziness so that they won’t cause a wildfire this week since it is so windy.

#25

friggin stupid PGE aren’t monopolies illegal in USA?

#26

Yeah they had the money given to them, but they just gave it to their investors or whatever. PGE is just stupid for not fixing these things.

#27

Lol, no. The US is far more accepting of monopolies than most of the developed world. Here in the UK e.g. we have a competitive electricity market.

PG&E were never going to let a fire like the Camp Fire happen again. So when the weather conditions are right for another fire (high winds to blow things onto the power lines, dry conditions for stuff to burn readily) they have no choice but to turn off the power in affected areas. That’s been clear since the Camp Fire, giving people plenty of time to prepare for the inevitable power cuts.

In theory they should deal with it by removing the danger. Burying the cables for example, as they should have done from the start. But someone would have to pay for this. Not PG&E which is bankrupt. No other firm will take responsibility for it. It needs to be paid for through bills, or through taxes, or both.

#28

DECA won’t do anything. Only natural. Nothing new. We all have to suck it up and deal with it.

#29

The shutdowns won’t be continuous so we can still collect our daily rewards.

#30

I live in CA and honestly don’t think I’ve received the power outages. But yeah, you can usually find time even with them.

#31

same, for our county it was supposed to shut down at 8 pm but here i am
