Politics ( ͡° ͜ ʖ ͡°)

I actually don’t bother with many triple A releases anymore, as indie games are usually better nowadays (Which isn’t really a good thing). Though, Idk why people buy games if they know they’re shit, kinda defeats the point.

Again, obviously. That’s why you gotta take stuff with a grain of salt anyway, can’t believe people 100% of the time just because they aren’t big imo.

This’ll probably be my last response to this part of the discussion since I’m starting to repeat myself, and I rather not make the discussion go in circles.

#103

A wise decision, but sadly doesn’t change the fact that you’re still an outlier in this regard.

They have their own problems like overuse of memes and references, or being stuck in early access or beta forever to make money from an unfinished product.

Nonetheless, I think we probably agree on the state of the videogame industry for the most part.

I’m sorry if I’m really harping on this point, but when I see how many people blindly follow asshats like hbomberguy or Sargon I feel a bit depressed.

I don’t know anything about Tim Pool but from what I’ve seen his content kinda looks like the type that just goes “lmao look at this article talking about stupid SJW shit” 24/7.

#104

BomberGoy is a condescending pile of shit who doesn’t believe in a middle ground, and I don’t watch him because of that. Carlgon I watch sometimes but I do click off his videos if he’s especially smug in one of his videos.

Tim’s alright, but he isn’t perfect imo. He has some opinions that I think are rather SJW-y but he is level headed for the most part. He does videos on a good amount of topics, though most are him talking about articles and events.

#105

Yikes, you should just put his name in triple parantheses while you’re at it.

#106

You can never have an unbiased news source, because what information they choose to include or exclude is a bias that goes into reporting whether conscious or not.

#107

Just call him Slazenger Rapemachine Whiteshaf.

Which is why you always try to get your info from multiple sources instead of relying on a single one.

#108

No idea what that means but okay.

yup, which is why I go to multiple sources when I read news articles in the first place, or youtubers who are on vary on the political spectrum. And I’d encourage more people to do the same, but people don’t seem to want to bother for some reason.

A good example was the New Zealand shooting. The guy who did it was literally trying to start more shit between the political parties (As read in his (((((((manifesto))))))) ). He even said subscribe to PewDiePie, which he knew would send the media in full berserk. He was a purely malicious element who not only wanted people dead, but attempted to sow more violence and alienation between the two political parties, and it worked. Dumbshit left leaning news networks spouted the same old shit about how bad the other party is by CHERRYPICKING pieces of the ““Manifesto”” and spin a narrative (Mainly the retards on the left wanting even more gun control lel).

Ironically, most youtubers who made a video about what happened urged people to NOT take the bait and become more divided, instead, they urged people to start conversations and unite in spite of what the shooter wanted. As for right leaning news networks, I have no idea as I coincidently can’t find them on bing or google.

That’s one of the pseudonyms he (allegedly) used before rising to Youtube fame. There’s a ton of shit about his past that makes me believe he’s not being genuine right now and has just found a dumb audience he can milk for Patreon money.

That’s the thing: I don’t think they’re necessarily dumb, I think they’re just more interested in selling a narrative than in reporting on the truth.

Why bother trying to say anything insightful when you can make bank by going “REEEEE DRUMPF BAD” 24/7?

The NZ shooter was just some dumb narcissistic asshole, but because it’s more convenient to paint him as some sort of super nazi one-man-death-squad that’s what they’re going to go with.

Funniest part about this was the usual online suspects trying to link him to Gamergate. Probably the least unexpected hot take on the matter, but still funny nonetheless.

I think they either completely avoided the subject or talked mostly about how he says Trump is a terrible leader and policy maker in his “manifesto”.

Wasn’t an easy story to spin for them so they were probably very happy the Smolett disaster happened shortly afterwards.

lol i know this is off topic, but:

youtube’s algorithm and influence are both especially scary…

i read this article that is basically summarized as:

if you search up a borderline topic (could be about anything, like politics), youtube will start giving you more of those videos. seems normal. but the thing is, the more you watch, the more extreme the videos suggested will become. this causes hate speech and political division. it basically starts giving you radical ideas. since it has a very big viewer-base, youtube is powerful.

here’s the article:

Very interesting Article indeed.

Inb4 people begin endorsing medio censorship moar.

But myself personally, I haven’t had this happen really, or at least not often. Usually YouTube recommends me similar videos to what I’ve watched, sometimes form right leaning channels. When it does recommend me more extreme content I don’t really bother watching it because it’s not from people I usually watch, and even when I watch it, I pretty much zone out once they say some stupid stuff.

#112

i havent had it happen to me personally, but i can see instances of it. i watched one overwatch video (i don’t play overwatch) and i’ve been bombarded with memes and videos of overwatch. certainly if i were to continue watching, i would experience more videos of that type. i understand that youtube is doing it purely for monetary purposes, but some arguments say it can encourage hate speech and whatever.

Read through the article and didn’t like what I saw. The verge is obviously heavily biased to the left and because of that my trust levels for them are in the toilet. I like these quotes especially.

Like Facebook, YouTube has begun to address some of the concerns raised by those departed employees. Most importantly, in January the company said it would stop recommending what it calls “borderline content”

Control of information, vague buzzwords designed to be changeable in order to increase the amount of censored content, gr8 stuhff. Facebook is also a haven for censorship and information stealing (mainly by the company itself) so it’s not a good idea to mention it with youtube in likeliness.

But even in the face of those horrific terror attacks, YouTube continues to be a bastion of white nationalist militancy. Over the last few days, Motherboard has viewed white nationalist and neo-Nazi propaganda videos on the website that have either been undetected by YouTube, have been allowed to stay up by the platform, or have been newly uploaded.

When examples were specifically shown to YouTube by Motherboard, the company told us that it demonetized the videos, placed them behind a content warning, removed some features such as likes and comments, and removed them from recommendations—but ultimately decided to leave the videos online. The videos remain easily accessible via search.

Btw this approach in my opinion is the correct approach in a sense. As due to these videos being readily available, people can criticize and debunk these types of videos. Cuz you know, hate speech is still FREE SPEECH (Not saying you can just go up to someone and spout racial slurs at them tho, that’s just rude).

The fact that the verge is implying that doing all of the stuff above but still leaving the video up is not enough is baffling. And it’s insulting that they think the average viewer are so moronic that if they see even a single extremist video, they’ll be turned into a fanatic white nationalist Nazi furry with a male pregnancy fetish.

But what do I know? censorship has worked one million billion percent of the time! look at the National Socialist Party (The Nazi Furries) and the Soviet Union for example. When those MEAN PIECES OF HUMAN GARBAGE said the mean words to them they just silenced them and everything was happy fun.

#114

It’s a robot that gives you content it thinks you’ll like based on the info it’s gathered, I don’t think it’s any deeper than that friends

#115

Fun fact: Free speech only means the government can’t punish or censor you for what you say (unless you’re threatening someone or something of that degree).
Private corperations, such as Youtube/Google, can still shut down your videos on their own website for any reason (or none)

#116

That’s only true if the viewers never makes any decision on their own and just let the algorithm decide, and also if they never use their free will and just do and think what the videos tell them to.

No matter how advanced it is, an algorithm is just a tool. It should not replace a human when it comes to making decisions and moral judgements.

This is an overly simplistic and frankly dangerous way of looking at online radicalization.

That’s absolutely true, but when a corporation has an almost monopolistic control of online discourse then that becomes problematic. And that’s not even getting into issues such as lobbying, nepotism, etc…

If the law only exists in theory but is replaced in reality by the whims of a corporation, that’s not a good thing for anybody.

#117

Sure, but if they advertise as a platform with free speech, then shutting down your videos could be seen as going against what they promised you.

#118

Can we all agree Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is the most idiotic person to ever get elected to congress.

#119

Yes, she is.

BUT WHAT ABOUT THE ENVIORNMENT??? WWWWWWWWWWWWWEEEE GTOTTOTOTOAAA SAVVVE ITTT BBYY implementing a plan that is not technologically possible even with how fast we’ve evolved tech wise. Oh and giving poor people money even if they refuse to work. Oh and a giant railway system that wouldn’t really be possible in 10 years.

Btw look at the fucking Los Angeles Metro Plan thing, it’s been going on for years, and yet it hasn’t made much progress when it came to creating more metro stations.

#120

Joseph McCarthy
Close, but not quite the worst.

The environment is definitely a problem (one of the biggest problems facing the world), but proposed solution is meh.

#121

Yeah, basically. I think it’s pretty insane how many people actually think she’s competent. People refer to her “as a breath of fresh air,” Or call her “the future of America” and other bs
