Realm of the Mad God introduced **Character Skins** in the 'Backpack Build', or [6.0.0](/wiki/development-and-release-history#release-6). These skins are tied to various classes and remain unlocked even after death on a character. To use a skin, the player must first unlock the skin and then select it when creating a new character (or at the wardrobe in the player's [vault](/wiki/vault)). Skins may be unlocked through various methods, such as purchasing for [Realm Gold](/wiki/realm-gold) when creating a new character or at the wardrobe. Other skins can be obtained as drops from certain enemies, in [Mystery Boxes](/wiki/mystery-boxes), through packages, [trading](/wiki/trade-system) with other players, or promotional events.

**Notes:**

The Gentleman and King Knifeula skins used to be tradeable, but were made soulbound in Release 23 due to reports they were being duplicated by players and sold for profit. These two skins were considered some of the rarest in the game. As of build 25.0.0, the King Knifeula skin became available in the alchemist, as well as tradeable once more.
