Overview

One of the first classes in Realm of the Mad God, the Rogue is a dagger class with his ability providing invisibility for a decent duration, preventing enemy detection when alone. His UTs capitalize on this effect, either increasing his DPS or further bolstering his rushing capability. However, invisibility is rendered useless in groups, making this class solo-oriented.

Stat Analysis

The Rogue boasts a high SPD cap of 75 to increase his mobility, and an average 720 HP, 25 DEF and 40 VIT for survivability. However, while his DEX cap is at a high 75, his ATK cap is at a low 50, making Rogue's DPS the lowest out of all the dagger classes. His low 252 MP and 50 WIS caps balance out the power of the ability, which is innately powerful in the right circumstances.

Equipment Choices

Weapon

The Rogue's weapon of choice is the [Dagger](/wiki/daggers). Daggers typically have decent range, surpassing that of [Swords](/wiki/swords) and [Katanas](/wiki/katanas), but surpassed by [Staves](/wiki/staves) and [Wands](/wiki/wands). Many UT daggers sacrifice range for much higher damage, while some trade off damage for higher range. As the Rogue's ability provides invisibility, the lower range on many daggers is usually not a concern when playing alone. However, it would still be advisable to bring a long-range dagger when invisibility is useless, especially in groups.

The [Dagger of Sinister Deeds](/wiki/dagger-of-sinister-deeds), notably dropping from the [Void Entity](/wiki/void-entity) and [The Forgotten King](/wiki/the-forgotten-king), deals more damage than Foul Malevolence, but is harder to obtain, dropping from difficult endgame bosses. The [Dagger of Dire Hatred](/wiki/dagger-of-dire-hatred), dropping from [Oryx the Mad God 3](/wiki/oryx-the-mad-god-3), has the highest damage out of all tiered daggers but is also the hardest to obtain, as it drops from arguably the hardest boss in the game, and is also {{template-soulbound}} Soulbound. The catch is the inconsistent damage range, which is a double-edged sword: you might deal high damage, comparable to the high-tier options; but you also might deal low damage, comparable to the [Steel Dagger](/wiki/steel-dagger). As the Rogue's invisibility allows you to get closer, the low range is usually not a concern. However, in places where close-range combat is impractical, it would be advised not to use these daggers. The [Etherite Dagger](/wiki/etherite-dagger), dropping from the [Grave Caretaker](/wiki/grave-caretaker) and the [Ghost of Skuld](/wiki/ghost-of-skuld), sacrifices range for higher DPS, beating Sinister Deeds, but is beaten out by Dire Hatred. [Toxin Tooth](/wiki/toxin-tooth), dropping from [Gulpord the Slime God](/wiki/gulpord-the-slime-god), takes it a step further and decreases the range to that of tiered swords, but has increased DPS, beating out all tiered daggers. The [Corruption Cutter](/wiki/corruption-cutter), dropping from the [Corruption Phantom](/wiki/corruption-phantom), has the highest DPS out of all daggers in the game at low DEF, but also has a lower true range than most daggers. This true range is usually somewhere between 2-3 tiles, sometimes reaching up to about 4 tiles, depending on the shot pattern and aiming. This is the optimal dagger for close range DPS. The [Bone Dagger](/wiki/bone-dagger), dropping from enemies in the [Manor of the Immortals](/wiki/manor-of-the-immortals), sacrifices range and damage to hit multiple targets. The [Queen's Stinger](/wiki/queen-s-stinger) is basically an upgrade to the Bone Dagger, having increased range, damage, and the ability to **ignore defense**. The Stinger is a good option for clearing and killing enemies with very high DEF. [Avarice](/wiki/avarice), dropping from [Treasurer Gemsbok](/wiki/treasurer-gemsbok), has increased range as well as increased DPS, beating every other dagger except the Corruption Cutter at low DEF. The catch is the wavy shot pattern, akin to the [Sword of the Colossus](/wiki/sword-of-the-colossus), but narrower. Because of this, it is better to hit targets near the end of its range. With some mastery, this dagger is a safer option for DPS, and is a great pick due to its versatility. On the other hand, the [Dirk of Cronus](/wiki/dirk-of-cronus), an insanely rare drop from the [Cube God](/wiki/cube-god), sacrifices some range for high DPS, similarly beating out almost every other dagger like the Avarice. While being beaten out by Avarice at low-mid DEF, the difference is usually negligible enough for most content, and the straight shot pattern makes it more consistent for hitting targets.

Ability

The Rogue's ability is the [Cloak](/wiki/cloaks). Cloaks allow the Rogue to turn invisible, allowing the Rogue to hide from enemies and cause most enemies to not attack. This invisibility can compensate for any daggers with low range, as the Rogue can use invisibilty to get closer to enemies in order to deal damage. Some UT cloaks do sacrifice the length of invisibility in exchange for a certain increase in another stat, such as ATT or DEF. Another detail to note is that cloaks can have almost permanent upkeep in invisbility if the wearer has a strong enough pet, with only being visible in between uses for roughly 1 second.

In particular, the [Cloak of Ghostly Concealment](/wiki/cloak-of-ghostly-concealment), dropping from [Oryx the Mad God 2](/wiki/oryx-the-mad-god-2), gives small increases to SPD, DEX, HP, and MP, along with a decent 5.5 seconds of invisibility. The admittedly harder to get but more powerful [Cloak of Nightmares](/wiki/cloak-of-nightmares), which drops from [Oryx the Mad God 3](/wiki/oryx-the-mad-god-3), not only gives slightly more of the previous cloak's stat increases, but also has a lengthy 6 seconds of invisibility. These cloaks are reliable for staying invisible for a decent amount of time. The [Cloak of the Planewalker](/wiki/cloak-of-the-planewalker), dropping from [Limon the Sprite Goddess](/wiki/limon-the-sprite-goddess), is a unique cloak that provides slightly inferior stats (+5 DEX, +4 SPD) yet the same invisibility length and cooldown as the [Cloak of Ghostly Concealment](/wiki/cloak-of-ghostly-concealment). However, it's true merit comes from its unique ability to *teleport on your cursor*, similar to a [Prism](/wiki/prisms), albeit less spammable due to its 6.5 second cooldown. This cloak can be very useful in rushing past rooms of enemies by teleporting over the danger. On the other hand, the [Cloak of Refraction](/wiki/cloak-of-refraction), which drops from the [Crystal Entity](/wiki/crystal-entity), adds different stats with a small +3 DEF and a much higher +10 SPD than both the Cloak of the Planewalker and the Cloak of Ghostly Concealment. The Cloak of Refraction also has the same 5.5 second invisibility length but a longer cooldown of 7 seconds. This cloak's specialty however is its ability to *send out a decoy*. The way this decoy works is similar to the decoy of the Trickster's Prism, but instead of the devoy moving in the direction you move, it *moves to the opposite direction of your movement*. For example, if you walk left and activate the cloak, the decoy moves right. The decoy also has a short 2.5 lifetime. The Cloak of Refraction is also a great option for rushing as it can distract large groups of enemies that follow you. Upon use, the cloak slows the wearer for 3 seconds, but adds a +25 ATT boost for 3.5 seconds. The Cloak of Bloody Surprises grants massive offensive capabilities in exchange for crippled mobility. However, this cloak is very difficult to get, as it is a rare drop from the [Lost Sentry](/wiki/lost-sentry). This cloak works best on the Rogue for when you want to deal damage to en enemy and is definitely not recommended for rushing. [![Cloak of the Mad God](//imgur.com/5wzATeW.png "Cloak of the Mad God")](/wiki/cloak-of-the-mad-god) The [Cloak of the Mad God](/wiki/cloak-of-the-mad-god) used to be a limited availability item dropping only from the [Decaract](/wiki/decaract), the final boss of the seasonal event dungeon [Mad God Mayhem](/wiki/mad-god-mayhem), but was then added as a rare drop from [Oryx the Mad God 1](/wiki/oryx-the-mad-god). This cloak serves as the polar opposite to the Cloak of Bloody Surprises and can be considered the [Helm of the Juggernaut](/wiki/helm-of-the-juggernaut) for the Rogue. This is due to the cloak granting armored for 5 seconds, at the cost of a short 3.5 second invisibility time, along with a lengthy 6 second cooldown. Also, the +5 DEF from the cloak is just nice. The Cloak of the Mad God should be used when prioritizing tankiness and survivability.

Armor

Similar to all dagger classes, the armor of choice for the Rogue is the Leather Armor, which compliments the Rogue with DEF, helping to increase survivability, and DEX, adding to the Rogue's already high DEX stat.

The Hydra Skin armor adds decent DEX and DEF boosts, while the Wyrmhide Armor is a small upgrade to the former's stats. The [Leviathan Armor](/wiki/leviathan-armor) however is the best tiered leather armor, with the same DEF boost as the [Desolation Armor](/wiki/desolation-armor) along with a decent increase in DEX. These leather armors are great for all around DEF and DEX. [![Leaf Dragon Hide Armor](//imgur.com/voSE8ih.png "Leaf Dragon Hide Armor")](/wiki/leaf-dragon-hide-armor) The [Leaf Dragon Hide Armor](/wiki/leaf-dragon-hide-armor), a rare drop from [Limoz the Veridian Dragon](/wiki/limoz-the-veridian-dragon), is a situational armor, as it has a low +13 DEF, along with a +50 HP, a large +6 SPD, and +5 VIT. This leather armor however has a proc that boosts +15 DEF for 5 seconds whenever you use your ability, albeit with a lengthy 15 second cooldown. Leaf Dragon Hide Armor could potentially be used in tandem with the [Cloak of the Mad God](/wiki/cloak-of-the-mad-god) in order to boost the Rogue's DEF, as armored gives a +50% boosts. The total DEF the armor provides would then be +28 DEF if used alone, and can theoretically give a +42 DEF increase for 5 seconds if used with Cloak of the Mad God (this has not been tested yet as this is just a theory). Leaf Dragon Hide Armor is a good defensive armor for the Rogue, although a few other leather armors beat it out with better stats, even with its proc. Specifically, they give +17 DEF but a decent +5 SPD. These leather armors are good for increasing the Rogue's mobility. Dropping from the [Void Entity](/wiki/void-entity) as part of the [Void Archer Set](/wiki/void-archer-set), the Armor of Nil gives a high +26 DEF, the same amount as the [Dominion Armor](/wiki/dominion-armor), at the cost of a -3 SPD. However, this armor also does not give a DEX buff like tiered leather armors, but the loss in DEX and SPD is negligeble due to the Rogue's already high SPD and DEX stats. This is a great armor for the Rogue if you want survivability as he is very vulnerable to damage due to his low 25 DEF cap.

Accessory

This works especially well on the Rogue, as due to the class's low-average defensive stats, the [Ring of Exalted Health](/wiki/ring-of-exalted-health), [Ring of Unbound Health](/wiki/ring-of-unbound-health), and [Ring of Decades](/wiki/ring-of-decades) give massive boost to HP. ![Ring of Unbound Defense](https://i.imgur.com/rgfZsnp.png "Ring of Unbound Defense") The [Ring of Unbound Defense](/wiki/ring-of-unbound-defense), while an unconventional choice, can work as a defensive ring for the Rogue due to the class's low DEF cap of 25. The Forgotten Crown may seem more appealing due to HP being more desirable than DEF. Not only is the Rogue naturally fast, but he will be both invisible and ![Speedy](https://i.imgur.com/xutwBjS.png "Speed")Speedy for the first 2 seconds of using his ability. ![Chancellor's Cranium](https://i.imgur.com/qJWkf3N.png "Chancellor's Cranium") The [Chancellor's Cranium](/wiki/chancellor-s-cranium) is a ring more balanced between survivability and DPS, as it has a highly damaging proc if the wearer takes a lot of damage. This can work to the Rogue's benefit, as the HP and DEF stats are not only great for increasing the Rogue's survivability, but because the Rogue is so fragile, the proc from the ring will most likely be active a lot, allowing the Rogue lots of damage. ![Collector's Monocle](https://i.imgur.com/4xNYkcz.png "Collector's Monocle") The [Collector's Monocle](/wiki/collector-s-monocle) is one of the best choices for the Rogue and acts as a straigh upgrade from the Forgotten Crown for this specific class, as its DPS boosting proc is only activated when the wearer is invisible. If the Rogue were to permanently stay invisible, the monocle's proc will also give permanent DPS boosting, allowing the Rogue to essentially have permanent +20 ATT. Also, the HP boost from the ring helps increase the Rogue's survivability, which completely outclasses The Forgotten Crown as long as the Rogue keeps up his invisibility.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Strengths

The Rogue can become a master of deception and speed if used in the right hands. The invisibility allows the Rogue to get closer to enemies without being detected, so certain bosses such as the [Murderous Megamoth](/wiki/murderous-megamoth), [Jon Bilgewater the Pirate King](/wiki/jon-bilgewater-the-pirate-king), and even [Oryx the Mad God 3](/wiki/oryx-the-mad-god-3) can become incredibly easy to get close to. Along with that, the effect negates any range reductions in daggers, as the Rogue can simply get closer to deal damage. Also, if one has a powerful pet with the Magic Heal ability, it is possible to keep the invisibility for roughly 100% of the time, with only a second in between cooldowns. Plus, the Rogue's high ATT and DEX allow for high DPS. Finally, the invisibility allows the Rogue great rushing potential, being able to slip past rooms of enemies undetected given the speed and knowing when to turn invisible.

Weaknesses

The Rogue requires much experience to master, as proper knowledge of when to go invisible is the best way to utilize the class's ability. Also, if one does not have a powerful pet, the cloak becomes a much weaker ability. Another flaw is that not all enemies or bosses attack based on whether it detects a player or not, especially with endgame bosses. This makes the Rogue's ability useless in most combat scenarios, at least in boss fights. Finally, the Rogue is a solo oriented class, so if you are in large groups, the invisibility will not be as effectice since enemies will target other players that may be close to you, meaning that you have to dodge anyways.

Summary

The Rogue is an amazing class with great DPS, stealth, and SPD. His cloaks allow him to get close to some enemies for dealing damage, and his high DPS stats paired with his high damage daggers enable him to not only quickly gain soulbound, but also shred through enemies. His fragile nature can make him a hard class to control, but with good experience and excellent dodging skills, you can become a powerful and fast class.
