Overview

One of the first classes in Realm of the Mad God, the Rogue is a dagger class with the ability to go Invisible, preventing enemy detection. Rogues are great at solo play and rushing, though enemies will still fire at your non-invisible teammates. Rogue has fundamentally changed little from their introduction in Realm of the Mad God, remaining a decent class throughout its existence.

Stats and Equipment

Rogues boast a high SPD of 75. While they also have a high DEX (75), their low ATK makes them the weakest of the three dagger classes. Daggers have average damage and average range, almost in the middle in weapon ranges. Other than their decent bulk (HP cap of 720, leather armor), their other stats aren't great; it takes a good pet with MHeal in order to sustain cloaks for a long duration. The [Dagger of Foul Malevolence](/wiki/dagger-of-foul-malevolence), [Dagger of Sinister Deeds](/wiki/dagger-of-sinister-deeds), and [Dagger of Dire Hatred](/wiki/dagger-of-dire-hatred) {{template-soulbound}} are the best daggers around. With increasing damage, but increasingly hard drop locations, they are very simple in their damage and range. The [Spirit Dagger](/wiki/spirit-dagger) is a sidegrade to the T12 Foul Malevolence; slightly lower range, but overall higher DPS. The catch is the inconsistent damage range, which is a double-edged sword: you might deal high damage, comparable to the high-tier options; but you also might deal low damage, comparable to the [Steel Dagger](/wiki/steel-dagger). As the Rogue's invisibility allows you to get closer, the low range is usually not a concern. However, in places where close-range combat is impractical, it would be advised not to use these daggers. * The [Etherite Dagger](/wiki/etherite-dagger) is a historically great dagger with great damage but with a range rivialling tiered swords. Unfortunately, time has left it outclassed by the T14 Dire Hatred, though its [Haunted Cemetery](/wiki/haunted-cemetery) drop makes it much easier to acquire. * The [Toxin Tooth](/wiki/toxin-tooth) actually fires with the range of a tiered sword, but even beats the Dire Hatred, from a similarly accessible source ([Gulpord the Slime God](/wiki/gulpord-the-slime-god)). * The [Corruption Cutter](/wiki/corruption-cutter) deals the most damage of all daggers, but has an awkward firepattern and the lowest true range of them all. It usually somewhere between 2-3 tiles, sometimes reaching up to about 4 tiles, depending on the shot pattern and aiming. This is the optimal dagger for close range DPS. The [Bone Dagger](/wiki/bone-dagger), dropping from enemies in the [Manor of the Immortals](/wiki/manor-of-the-immortals), sacrifices range and damage to hit multiple targets. The [Queen's Stinger](/wiki/queen-s-stinger) is a harder-to-acquire upgrade to the Bone Dagger, having increased range, damage, and the ability to **ignore defense**. The Stinger is a good option for clearing and killing enemies with very high DEF. The catch is that Avarice fires wavy shots like the [Sword of the Colossus](/wiki/sword-of-the-colossus), which converge only at the end of their range. With some mastery, this dagger is a safer option for DPS, and is a great pick due to its versatility. It is an endgame drop from [Treasurer Gemsbok](/wiki/treasurer-gemsbok). * On the other hand, the [Dirk of Cronus](/wiki/dirk-of-cronus), an insanely rare drop from the [Cube God](/wiki/cube-god), sacrifices some range for the same top-tier DPS. While being beaten out by Avarice at low-mid DEF, the difference is usually negligible enough for most content, and the straight shot pattern makes it more consistent for hitting targets.

Ability

The Rogue's ability is the [Cloak](/wiki/cloaks). Cloaks allow the Rogue to turn invisible; most enemies will stop attacking, and all of them won't target you. Rogues can use their Cloak to rush past enemies, or to get close enough to deal damage. UT cloaks tend to sacrifice Invisiblity time for other benefits. Almost every Cloak has a cooldown at least 1 second longer than the Invisibility time. Even then, the user needs a strong enough pet with Magic Heal in order to keep the cloak up. Note that the {{template-silenced}} and {{template-quiet}} are dangerous: the former prevents ability use, and the latter **cancels** your invisibility.

The [Cloak of Ghostly Concealment](/wiki/cloak-of-ghostly-concealment) and [Cloak of Nightmares](/wiki/cloak-of-nightmares) (from [Oryx 3](/wiki/oryx-the-mad-god-3)) are the best cloaks for Invisibility, lasting the longest and costing the least MP to sustain. Each cloak also gives very high stat bonuses; along with the HP/MP bonus of all T6+ abilities, the T6 Cloak gives +5 to SPD *and* DEX, and the T7 cloak only increases it. The [Cloak of the Planewalker](/wiki/cloak-of-the-planewalker) is a unique and incredibly useful cloak with the T6's Invis time, but with the ability to *teleport on your cursor*. Its cooldown make less spammable than a [Prism](/wiki/prisms), though it defintely increases speed. Regardless, the teleport & Invis combined is a very powerful rushing tool. Plus, its very easy to obtain; both tradable and dropped in [Sprite World](/wiki/sprite-world). The [Cloak of Refraction](/wiki/cloak-of-refraction) adds a massive +10 SPD, but is most notable for the ability to send out 3 mirror images that distract enemies. It drops from the [Crystal Entity](/wiki/crystal-entity), much harder than Sprite World. The [Cloak of Bloody Surprises](/wiki/cloak-of-bloody-surprises) has a long 6s cooldown, low Invis time, and *slows* the user, but gives a massive +25 ATT boost for 3.5 seconds. This cloak works best on the Rogue for when you want to deal damage to a boss. As a rare drop from the [Lost Sentry](/wiki/lost-sentry), it is difficult to get. Conversely, the [Cloak of Cubic Enigma](/wiki/cloak-of-cubic-enigma) is a mor emobile option; leaving out a trail of AoEs as you travel. It deals 400 damage every 0.6 seconds, in a 3.5 tile radius, for a decent total damage of 4000. The AoE bursts weaken enemies you run along the way, making it doubly good for rushing. It drops from the bosses in [The Third Dimension](/wiki/the-third-dimension). [![Cloak of the Mad God](//imgur.com/5wzATeW.png "Cloak of the Mad God")](/wiki/cloak-of-the-mad-god) The [Cloak of the Mad God](/wiki/cloak-of-the-mad-god) serves as the polar opposite to the Cloak of Bloody Surprises, granting +5 DEF on equip and Armored for 4.5 seconds; at the cost of tiny Invis time and a lengthy 6 second cooldown. The Cloak of the Mad God should be used when prioritizing tankiness and survivability.

Armor

Similar to all dagger classes, the armor of choice for the Rogue is the Leather Armor. Leather armor complements the Rogue with DEF (helping to increase survivability), and DEX (adding to the Rogue's already high DEX stat).

They provide good defenses and a decent DEX boost. You can never go wrong with a tiered armor. It gives a +15 DEF boost for 5 seconds on ability use, though with a 15s cooldown. Along with a pretty large +6 SPD and +5 VIT, and this armor is pretty decent for surviving while rushing. However, it does not give DEX. It drops from [Limoz the Veridian Dragon](/wiki/limoz-the-veridian-dragon). * The [Armor of Nil](/wiki/armor-of-nil) focuses on pure defense, with an unparalleled and unconditional +26 DEF. It comes at the cost of -3 SPD (and no DEX boost), which is kinda negliable given the Rogue's high stats in both. It is the best at staying Out of Combat, dropping from the endgame [Void Entity](/wiki/void-entity). * The [Vest of Abandoned Shadows](/wiki/vest-of-abandoned-shadows) is an endgame upgrade to Leaf Dragon, with 20 DEF, the same +50 HP, and much more VIT (+15). In addition, the ability instead provides Armored in a more controlled manner (while shooting In Combat). It also doesn't give DEX. It is dropped by [Thessal the Mermaid Goddess](/wiki/thessal-the-mermaid-goddess) * The [Spectral Cloth Armor](/wiki/spectral-cloth-armor), compared to the T13 Hydra Skin has a slight DEF drop and a small SPD boost, while trading 2 DEX for the same amount of ATT. Dropped by [Davy Jones](/wiki/davy-jones). * The [Beehemoth Armors](/wiki/beehemoth-armor) (of 3 colors) have the same DEF as a T13 Hydra Skin Armor, a +5 SPD boost, but no offensive stats. ![Turncoat Cape](//imgur.com/V3W2Yw5.png "Turncoat Cape") The [Turncoat Cape](/wiki/turncoat-cape) is an armor especially suited for rushing; not only does it provide a massive +10 SPD, but whenever you get hit for enough damage, you will turn Invisible. This can be used to stay hidden even during your Cloak cooldown.

The [Hirejou Tenne (Tenne)](/wiki/hirejou-tenne) and [Centaur's Shielding](/wiki/centaur-s-shielding) sacrifice the majority of their DEF boost for an unrivaled increase in damage. Tenne gives a huge, unconditional +16 DPS stats, while the Centaur's gives even more if you have the {{template-healing}} status.

Accessory

The [Ring of Exalted Health](/wiki/ring-of-exalted-health), [Ring of Unbound Health](/wiki/ring-of-unbound-health), and [Ring of Decades](/wiki/ring-of-decades) give massive boost to HP. The [Ring of Unbound Defense](/wiki/ring-of-unbound-defense), while an unconventional choice, can work as a defensive ring for the Rogue due to the class's low DEF cap of 25. However, most would prefer HP rings as they are generally better at tanking damage. ![Collector's Monocle](//imgur.com/4xNYkcz.png "Collector's Monocle") The [Collector's Monocle](/wiki/collector-s-monocle) is an absolutely amazing ring for the Rogue, a straight upgrade to [The Forgotten Crown](/wiki/the-forgotten-crown). In addition to a strong +140 HP boost, players that go Invisible recieve a net total of +20 ATT - an unrivaled amount of offense. Lasting for 4 seconds (and a cooldown of 1s) per proc, Rogues can keep this great endgame ring from [Treasurer Gemsbok](/wiki/treasurer-gemsbok) up 100% of the time. ![Snake Eye Ring](//imgur.com/lvPfj4Z.png "Snake Eye Ring") The [Snake Eye Ring](/wiki/snake-eye-ring) is an odd choice, considering that it has very low stats and is a very common drop from [Stheno the Snake Queen](/wiki/stheno-the-snake-queen). However, the ring gives ![Speedy](https://i.imgur.com/xutwBjS.png "Speedy")[Speedy](/wiki/status-effects#speedy) for 2 seconds, great for increasing the Rogue's rushing capabilities. Not only is the Rogue naturally fast, but he will be both invisible and ![Speedy](https://i.imgur.com/xutwBjS.png "Speed")Speedy for the first 2 seconds of using his ability. ![Chancellor's Cranium](//imgur.com/qJWkf3N.png "Chancellor's Cranium") The [Chancellor's Cranium](/wiki/chancellor-s-cranium) is a more balanced endgame ring. In addition to better defenses than the Monocle, it has a highly damaging proc if the wearer takes a sufficently damaging shot. Because the Rogue is often up close but not that bulky, the proc from the ring will most likely be active a lot, allowing the Rogue lots of damage.

Strengths and Weaknesses

The Rogue can become a master of deception and speed if used in the right hands. The Invisibility allows the Rogue to get closer to enemies without being detected, so certain bosses such as the [Murderous Megamoth](/wiki/murderous-megamoth), [Jon Bilgewater the Pirate King](/wiki/jon-bilgewater-the-pirate-king), and even [Oryx the Mad God 3](/wiki/oryx-the-mad-god-3) can become incredibly easy to get close to. The Rogue, therefore, compensates for the short range of (UT) daggers. Finally, the invisibility allows the Rogue great rushing potential, being able to slip past rooms of enemies undetected given the speed and knowing when to turn invisible. However, Rogue requires much experience to master; proper knowledge of when to go invisible is the best way to utilize the class's ability. If a player doesn't have enough MHeal, the cloak becomes much weaker. Many enemies have attack patterns independent of players, including many that you'd want to "cheese". More importantly, any other player within enemy range will cause them to fire, forcing you to have to dodge, thus removing the point of Invisibility. In a group, the Rogue deals middling damage with middling bulk with no relevant ability. Incredibly good UTs such as the [Collector's Monocle](/wiki/collector-s-monocle) only serve to bring Rogues up to par. Even in the avenue of rushing, a skilled [Trickster](/wiki/trickster) gives the Rogue a huge run for their money, being much faster while remaining useful to a group. However, Rogues are still *much* easier and safer to actually rush, so are a great class to farm pots and Godlands with.

Summary

The Rogue is an amazing class with decent DPS, stealth, and SPD. His cloaks allow him to get close to some enemies for dealing damage or rush. His fragile nature can make him a hard class to control, but with good experience and excellent dodging skills, you can become neat little fast class.
