These enemies were added to the game in an effort to populate the deserts. They're quite weak, but along with giant crabs and sand devils they can be found in massive hordes, so it seems apparent that they breed like rabbits. They're trying to take over the realm, but due to their intense weakness they find this endeavour to be impossible despite their numbers. Sandsmen once confused the Elf Wizard for their master.
