The Shogun (Original Class Idea)

The Shogun would be a high DPS class which almost draws level with the Warrior.
The weapon of choice would be a Katana, like the Ninja. However, this class does not use leather armour, it uses heavy armours (like the Knight, Warrior and Paladin) and UT armours only useable by this class and the Ninja.
The Shoguns special ability is an ancient Japanese weapon called the Kusarigama which inflicts damage upon foes while slowing them down and dazing them from 2.5 seconds (lower tiers) up to 4.5 seconds (higher tiers) and various status effects (Untiered items).

No. Before you suggest an ability to daze, I believe that you should consider that there is exactly one item in the game taht gives daze and it is called the quiver of thunder. Check that thing out before you decide to give a class daze as it’s main fucking ability

I don’t think it’s allowed to have UT armours that only it and the ninja can use when they both use different armours.

I didn’t notice that part or chose to ignore it. However, you are definitely right. It makes no sense for there to be a armor that they share. Consider an accrop vs the armor of nil. Accrop is just superior in every way

You should probably find another status effect to do or just make it pure DPS…
We don’t want to make QoT obsolete now do we?

Ninja is already enough of a damage dealer. No need to make another one, and with heavy armor no less. This also just be my OCD, but I don’t like the idea of a katana wielder using heavy armor instead of light armor, ever.

The word “kusarigama” is a mouthful.

I know you think your idea is original, but there have been so many Samurai/Shogun ideas pitched where the ability dazes.

I dont think you understand what i mean, the Shogun will not be able to use leather armour, like how the Ninja cannot use heavy armours. However, there will be armours (possibly only two of the Untiered status) that only the Shogun and the Ninja may be able to use. These armours will have mid-high defence, making at a “light” heavy armour like the Resurrected Warrior’s Armour, but with balanced stats that both classes can benefit from without making the classes overpowered and other armours of their type obselete.

@leohe @ZaTank I designed this class to have a Katana from the requests of users from my first class idea: the Wielder. I know the daze as a main ability may make it seem like the QoT would be obselete, but the Shogun and the Archer are two completely different classes.
See it like this, The Coral Venom Trap paralyzes enemies as a special effect due to it being an Untiered item, however Archers’ quivers from Tier 3+ paralyze enemies, and some players still like to use their Coral Venom Traps.

P.S. Kusarigama is a real-life Japanese weapon used to disble your foes’ weapon. I tried to implement this into the abilities mechanic, but i knew another cpass that would be able to stun enemies wouldn’t be welcomed, so I alternatively chose to slow the enemies travel speed and attack speed.

Because the archer came before the huntress, and there are multiple items that paralyze, not just one rare UT item.

Giving a new class the ability to daze doesn’t mean that the QoT would be any less valuable than it already is, take into consideration that their ranges differ as a katana class would be only a slight advantage, range wise, to a melee and the archer is a ranged class, therefore giving each class a completely different playing style. Furthermore, there is simply no other status effect that could be given to a new class’ ability without repeating another classes.
Maybe I could reduce the period of the status effect by around 1 second for the lower and higher tiers, but im not willing to change the effect on enemies.

First of all, do whatever you want man, it’s your idea. Daze… something else… I don’t really care.

However… Here are a some links to ideas that I thought were similar to yours that have been posted here, discussed briefly, and then passed on without much fanfare. Some of them are more complete than yours, some less.





I could continue with these, because I guarantee you there are at least a dozen more out there, not limited to this forum. I don’t want to take the wind out of your sails or anything, but this idea has been used time and again, and it’s not like yours is any better or worse than the others, but the only truly good class/weapon/dungeon ideas that get posted here are complete ones that have been given a lot of thought. And even then, there’s really not much point in posting them because DECA doesn’t really scour this forum for new ideas to implement. I don’t really see the point, especially for something like the Samurai/Shogun, etc. Again though, do what you want. It’s all for fun anyway.

Thank you for enlightening me, i do need suggestions for it though. Because I said that I would not be willing to change the status effect of it doesn’t mean I wont, all i need is some suggestion from users who have criticised this and want to improve the concept.
It is a dissapointment to hear that Deca rarely bat an eyelid at the forums as they look as if they need new content to add to the game to attract new players like me. And i doubt, although I shall try, that they would look into my idea in detail even if i were to contact them about it directly.

Everyone is being unnecessarily butthurt over archer not being ‘special’ anymore. Though if a new class where to be released it would need to have daze in order to make it unique from every other class. Also, shogun isn’t original, it’s just the five billionth class samurai. :sunglasses:

Thanks for backing me up a little. I only thought mine was original because I kept seeing Samurai ideas appearing, and really the Shogun (in ancient Japan) were different to the Samurai and specialised in different weapons. So I did my history research for originality, but not enough research into other similar class ideas.
