Interregnum Lore

Shrouded Summons

Item Description:
A letter inside a magically-sealed envelope which magic has faded.

Text:
Greetings,

I have heard of your plight and believe we have similar goals; to bring about the downfall of Oryx.
To this end I have devised a plan, but I need trusted comrades to carry it out.
I offer no power nor riches, but I can promise you the Mad God’s end.
Should you wish to join me, take the coin enclosed within this letter and speak unto it.
You will know what to do from there.

-A Friend

Intercepted Letter 1

Item Description:
A letter that one of the Syndicate members dropped.

Text:
My dearest companions,

You are among my most trusted and capable allies, and I have a task only you are capable of.
I would have you return to the realm and hunt the most powerful of the realm’s denizens to siphon their strength.
We will need an incredibly high volume of power to perform the ritual that will mark the culmination of our efforts.
Should you find the heroes of the nexus as I have before, shift your target unto them.
It is a regrettable outcome as they fall on the same side as us.
However, we need all the power we can get and they are not ones so easy to work with, trust me, I’ve tried.
Remember, if you are to return you must bring the coins with you, they are your only way back.

-W.

Intercepted Letter 2

Item Description:
A letter that one of the Syndicate members dropped.

Text:
Members of the Syndicate,

Our goal is on the horizon.
Soon I will rip the Mad God Himself from the realm and bring him here, to a place where his influence cannot reach.
This dimension shall be his tomb, no longer able to return to the realm, all the power he has will be meaningless.
However, this ritual is hardly accurate, unfortunately I have a high chance of taking a large chunk of the realm with him.
The damage could be heavy, but sacrifices must be made.
In time the realm will heal, and you all will be there to help it grow once again.

-W.

Vagrant’s Journal

Item Description:
A page from a journal, hastily written.

Text:
I can’t follow through with this anymore.
I joined early on to support the cause, but things have gone awry since then.
The executives are all blinded by their own goals, their desire for revenge.
They have lost sight of the true goal of the organization, to free the realm, and yet they call it a “necessary sacrifice”?
We are talking about ripping a hole in the world, destroying part of the very realm they are freeing.
There has to be another way.
I’m planning on sneaking out of here and finding someone, anyone, to help me stop this before it gets out of hand.

Captain’s Log

Item Description:
A journal page from a pirate’s log.

Text:
Years, we’ve been stranded on this Island, years.
There is a whole world to plunder out there but here we are unable to leave this glorified rock.
That damnable sea beast roams the waters taking down any ships that try to tread too far from shore.
We’ve managed to take care of him before, but that bloody tyrant wont let him stay gone.
My men are at their wit’s end, if this continues I expect many to leave for the Mad God’s armies, or worse, a Mutiny.
I need to figure something out before then…

Izel’s Prayer

Item Description:
A wood tablet written with magical ink.

Text:
I beseech the spirits, grant me strength.
To ascend beyond the limits of my flesh.
I beseech the spirits, grant me leadership.
To unite the tribes against our true foe.
I beseech the spirits, grant me courage.
To oppose the False God and his stolen powers.
I beseech the spirits, grant me purpose.
To restore order to our chaotic lands.

Nefret’s Journal

Item Description:
A fine piece of parchment, written with a steady hand and stylish calligraphy.

Text:
I used to rule the desert, outranked by none. I was destined to become the next god of our people, but now?
My people and my lands are gone, taken over by the Mad God without struggle.
He made our own gods subservient to him, for many of our people there wasn’t even a second thought about taking him as their new ruler.
For me, I was simply pushed aside, no longer worshiped, no longer needed, left with only a small group of loyal followers.
Robbed of my birthright I lack purpose, I need to reclaim my place, but I fear I lack the capability to do so.

Ozuchi’s Vow

Item Description:
A scroll, written with broad brush strokes.

Text:
Our war is over, we’ve lost.
The strength, the pride, of the great Oni clans is in shambles.
We were holding fast against his forces but it all came down to a single battle.
20 to 1, the greatest of our clan, the strongest warriors this realm has ever seen, all lost to a single man.
His strength was overwhelming, presenting the battle more as an inconvenience than a fight for survival.
Our slaughter was quick, and with it, the largest remaining threat to his forces was no more.
I’ve thrown away my pride as a samurai, fleeing, so that at least one of us may survive.
I vow I will not let this humiliation go unpunished.

The Wanderer’s Journal Page 1

Item Description:
A page snatched from a journal.

Text:
I am plagued by recurring nightmares.
They all reflect the same thing, my home, its peaceful atmosphere quickly morphing to one of utter chaos.
The warning bells ring out as an army marches on the horizon, thousands of soldiers armed to the teeth surge forth.
They rip apart our guards within mere moments, and from there they start butchering civilians without impunity.
I hide in the sewers, watching from the grates as my entire world is set on fire.
Amid it all stands a figure clad in obsidian commanding his minions to destroy everything I have ever known.
It was then that I awoke to my power. Many would call it a gift, but to me it’s a reminder.

The Wanderer’s Journal Page 2

Item Description:
A page snatched from a journal.

Text:
I have been in search of greater strength almost all my life, working towards the singular goal of enacting revenge against the Mad God.
Unfortunately I feel myself reaching the limit of my physical power.
It seems to be time to explore other potential avenues, starting with my “gift”.
This power allows me to rip open holes in our reality, creating passage from one place within the realm to another.
Thus far I have simply willed it to happen, and it did.
I used it to travel the lands, seeking anyone willing to train me, but never have I tried to attain a deeper understanding into its limits.
Shortsighted as it may have been to miss it before, this is probably my only other option for dealing with a being that seemingly cannot die.

The Wanderer’s Journal Page 3

Item Description:
A page snatched from a journal.

Text:
Great strides have been made in experimentation with my powers.
I have found that I am capable of imbuing fragments of my power into objects, allowing a rift to be opened by any I grant one to.
That alone isn’t very useful, but I have also found something…
Interesting…
A place akin to the nexus those heroes reside in, another dimension separate from the realm itself. It has eternally dark skies and no signs of any living creatures.
Within this place I can feel it, or rather a lack of it. Oryx’s influence is nowhere to be found.
I think I am beginning to come up with a plan involving this place.
For this I am going to need a lot more strength, and despite my apprehension to leaving my fate in the hands of others, I’ll need allies as well.
