To be exact, the dragons in LoD don't have a hitbox until you've activated them so... reverting back to the older version as you won't make it if you tried "punching" the dragons with the wand when they aren't activated. Sure, the extra range would help during the battle so you can hit the dragon off-screen and have a hard chance to chase you until it sees you, but if the dragons are not activated, you're only trying to hit a pile of invisible pixels.
