One of the original students of the danmaku dance, Genji is a powerful spirit who is able to harness the unyielding power of water. His movements are strengthened by the currents of the nearby river. Genji, along with Drummer Kaguya and Dancer Miko, will be found in the main area of the Moonlight Village. Once approached, he and the other dancers will provide some dialogue before teleporting all players to the arena and starting the fight.
“A timeless ritual for the spirits before us…”
“Witness our form! Witness our grace! Witness the beauty, of the Moonlight Dance!”
The three dancers will attack one at a time in a random order. Depending on when Genji attacks, his behavior will be different.
See the Boss Phases section of the main page for more info on the dancers’ battle structure.
During these phases, Genji will be Armor Broken and must be damaged to accelerate the phase. In each one, Genji will use one standard attack at random, coupled with a random secondary attack to supplement it. He will never use the same attack more than once.
If a dancer was defeated before Genji, they will periodically cross the arena during these attacks, firing bullets to aid Genji.
Genji summons a large bubble in the middle of the map that sporadically fires smaller bubbles outwards, which will start moving in a circular pattern when they fly far enough. Genji himself will follow players and periodically launch three large blue bubbles in a Y pattern, each of which will periodically fire 4 water twirls around them as they fly.
Genji follows players, periodically summoning a ring of water stars that converge on his current position. Curving streams of water swirls will constantly fire at players from the edges of the arena, and a rain of water droplets will continuously fall vertically along the arena.
Genji summons three rotating bubbles in the center of the arena that each spray bubble shots outwards as they rotate. Meanwhile, two outer rings of bubble turrets will saturate the arena with slow water stars. Genji will spin around the arena and does not attack for this phase.
Genji circles around the arena, firing 3-way shotguns of water bolts. An invincible bubble will be in the center of the arena, shooting a 3-way spiral of swirls and a sporadic radial barrage of small bubbles.
Genji moves between the four cardinal points of the arena at random. Every time he arrives, he will summon several thick walls of bullets from the other side of the arena, which fly towards him; each one has several gaps to dodge through. He will also summon a randomized barrage of water waves that moves in the opposite direction of the walls.
During these phases, players cannot harm Genji and must stay close to the Lantern in the arena to speed up the phase. Players will be inflicted with Silenced and In Combat for the duration of the phase, but will also be given 3 seconds of Healing and Energized at the end of it.
Genji rapidly bombards the arena with a randomized “rain” of AoEs, which are telegraphed by red circles. Four bubble turrets spawn at the cardinal points of the arena, which periodically turn blue and fire slow rings of blue spikes. At the same time, thick walls of shots will periodically sweep diagonally across the arena, each with multiple gaps to dodge through. Genji himself will move around the arena in a diamond pattern, leaving behind a trail of stationary spinners.
The Lantern will be in the center of the arena.
Genji rotates clockwise around the arena while firing rapid rings of water waves with periodic gaps. Revolving rings of water shots periodically spawn at the top and bottom of the arena (telegraphed by warning symbols), and streams of shots will periodically sweep across the arena, alternating between horizontally and vertically.
The Lantern rotates clockwise around the arena.
Genji shrinks the arena with a border of water shots. After a telegraph, Genji spawns multiple clusters of water waves that expand and form spinning rings, each with two gaps to dodge through; once the rings expire, Genji will immediately telegraph the next wave. Small bubble bullets will additionally start spawning from the edges of the arena. Genji himself will maintain a ring of shots around him and periodically fire a dense 3-way shotgun of water bolts.
The Lantern rotates clockwise around the arena.
Genji’s final attack progresses through four stages as it nears completion. For the duration of the Last Word, all players will be inflicted with Pet Stasis, Silenced, Sick, Drought, and In Combat.
The Lantern very slowly moves back and forth in the middle of the arena.
“This concludes the Moonlight Dance.”
Once the three dancers are all defeated, all the gathered spirits will converge into a loot bag, and the dancers will take their leave. If Genji was the final dancer and Leisurely mode was not activated, he will grant players a Life Exaltation upon defeat.
After the battle, Genji can be found in the main path of the dungeon, where he can be talked to.
“Oof, I must have strained myself just earlier…do you have a moment to talk?”
Players can also prompt additional dialogue if they ask Genji about specific topics.
TBA
The three dancers will collectively drop loot in a single bag at the end of the fight.
