How & Why to find Davy Jones’ Locker

How

Ghost Ship

Davy Jones’ Locker is guaranteed to drop from the Ghost Ship. The event can spawn multiple times per Realm, which can make it easier to find when running other dungeons.

The Davy’s Key (Davy's Key) can also be purchased in the Nexus for 100 Realm Gold.

Ghost Ships will appear on your quest marker when the other events are dead. When you first approach a Ghost Ship, it is bright brown and harmless, but as soon as you shoot it you will have activated the fight. Throughout the entire fight, the Ghost Ship will frequently spawn Vengeful Spirits and Water Mines. Vengeful Spirits simply lunge at players while firing three-way shotguns, so it is best to just run away in a circle around the Ghost Ship while taking down any Spirits. However, the Water Mines are much more deadly because they will chase down nearby players and attempt to explode on top of them, which is most likely to instantly kill anyone with low defense and health. While you can gun the Spirits down with few problems, the Mines have high defense that makes it much harder to destroy them. It is best to either run away and wait out the Mine or get close enough to activate the Mine but not stand directly on top of it (assuming you can tank that much damage). It is also a good idea to call friends over before starting the battle if you can. Everyone can spam both the boss and its minions with their abilities when you first start so you can start off with a lot of damage and few alive minions before the Ghost Ship starts hitting hard. Once the fight has gone on long enough for you to have done enough damage to him, it will spawn skulls on the beach meant to keep players from wanting to leave the fight, although high DEF can allow you to tank the skulls’ shots and easily leave and re-enter the fight at will. After more damage has been dealt, the Ghost Ship will spawn some clouds in the waters near the beach, keeping out all non-melee classes that are not already inside the setpiece. The Ship’s attacks will become much more dexterous and vicious, and after another set of damage has been inflicted, it will spawn a second set of clouds to fill the gaps of the first set. It will then spawn ghost minions and begin to chase people down. This is where most people die - when you get to half health, it’s advisable to leave and go to the beach’s edge. This is the hardest and the slowest part of the battle but just be patient! After you finish the ship off, you have a guaranteed chance of it dropping a portal to Davy Jones’ Locker.

Why

Spirit DaggerGhostly PrismSpectral Cloth ArmorCaptain's Ring
The Ghostly Trickster Set (an Untiered Trickster set) drops here and provides decent stat increases. The Spirit Dagger is the dagger equivalent of a Sprite Wand, having the potential to do both very high and very low damage, albeit the Spirit Dagger is more consistent. The Ghostly Prism is a highly damaging prism that spawns a bomb at your last location before exploding. This bomb does not attract enemies, but well placed bombs on bosses and even clumps of minions can prove highly effective. The Spectral Cloth Armor provides decent stat increases to DEF, SPD, and DEX, but does not really excel at any stat. Finally, the Captain’s Ring provides the same stats as The Forgotten Crown, albeit at much lower values.

Quiver of Shrieking SpectersRevenant RingSwashbuckler's SickleNaval Uniform
The dungeon can drop two halves of seperate ST sets. Namely, the quiver and ring for the Phantom Archer Set, and the sword and heavy armor for the Pirate King Warrior Set. They’re both good ST sets in their own right, and these halves must be dropped from here in order to complete their respective sets.

Potion of AttackPotion of Wisdom
This dungeon is a good source of both Potions of Attack and Potions of Wisdom, as they drop in plenty from both the boss and treasure rooms.

Enemies

Ghost of Roger and Lost Soul

Ghost of RogerLost Soul

These are the giant skulls that you will see if you are walking through hallways or entering a room; if you are walking down the hallway you can run past them and ignore them, but if you are entering a room then you have no choice but to face them. These guys almost never move far, but with them shooting at you and their constant spawning of Lost Souls to suicide bomb you, they are a very dangerous foe. If you are entering a room to look for a key, it is more important that you take them out slowly but safely, as if you rush in to look for a key, you won’t have enough health to grab it and escape (unless you are on an extremely tanky character such as a Knight).

Ghost Pirates

Ghost Pirate SrLil' Ghost Pirate

The Lil’ Ghost Pirate is not a large threat because they can only kill you if you let them swarm you. Simply move away from or kill them. On the other hand, the Ghost Pirate Sr is more dangerous, dealing more damage and shooting more shots. It is best to either kill the Ghost Pirate Sr or turn on the lanterns as quickly as possible, since they can spawn up to a very large amount.

Zombie Pirates

Zombie Pirate SrZombie Pirate Jr

The main problem with the Zombie Pirate Sr’s is that they are in big groups when you enter a room, and they can quickly run you out of one! Although they are not the best damage dealers, they do have a fair amount of health, making them difficult to kill. They also spawn little versions of themselves, Zombie Pirate Jr’s, which can eventually amass a large mob of enemies if left unchecked.

School of Ghostfish

School of Ghostfish

The School of Ghostfish is a very underwhelming enemy, doing little damage and having very low mobility. However, similarly to the Lil Ghost Pirate and Zombie Pirate Jr, letting them swarm you can begin to deplete your HP. Just make sure to deal with them instead of ignoring them, either by moving away or killing them.

Ghost Ship Rat

Ghost Ship Rat

The Ghost Ship Rat is less dangerous and more annoying, inflicting Gold Five Pointed Star Stunned. This makes it harder to deal with other enemies.

Violent Spirit

Violent Spirit

Violent Spirits, much like the rest of the smaller enemies, are not that dangerous unless you let them stack up on you. Again, either move away or kill it, but don’t ignore it if you’re sitting still.

Layout and Navigation

Layout:

Davy Jones' Locker Layout

The layout of the dungeon is very large, with multiple interconnected hallways, and rooms splitting off of them. The treasure room may even look the same as other rooms. Meanwhille, the boss room is a much larger and rounder room that is always entered from the bottom.

The First Room

When you enter the first room, you will be locked in. There are some barrels below you that you can shoot to move down the room, and there will be a blue key standing in the middle of the bottom wall. Just stand on it for a brief moment and it will disappear and then reappear on everyone’s top left corner in a custom UI for the dungeon. Now you can go to the corridor and locate the blue wall. Touch it with your character to open it and proceed through the dungeon. This first room teaches you the important mechanic of finding keys to unlock doors throughout the dungeon, until finding the yellow key to unlock the boss room.

Green Key Hunt

The Green Key hunt consists of using the blue key to look through the many blue door rooms. There is a ratio of color doors that you will notice when looking for keys. This ratio is an example; say there are 26 rooms total, then there will be 12B/8G/4R/2Y.

This means that the green key hunt will by far be the longest. When going through the hallways, look for every blue door you can find, and if you find one unopened, then touch the door and it will open. Fight whatever is inside and go to the farthest end of the room. If there isn’t a key there, then move on to the next room. You must keep searching until either you find the green key or someone else has. When someone has found the green key (or any other type of key within the dungeon) it will appear next to your blue key at the top left of your screen. After the green key has been found, there is absolutely no point in opening the remaining blue doors unless you are looking for treasure rooms, as there will not be a red or yellow key in there at any point. Not opening these rooms also decreases the amount of enemies you have to deal with.

Red Key Hunt

Now that you have the green key you can search rooms with a green door. There should be a lot less green doors than blue doors so that will make things go a lot quicker. These rooms do not increase in difficulty in any way, so you don’t have to worry about that. Now you just repeat the same process as before, but this time be on the lookout for red doors too, so that you will remember where they are later. Once you see the red key just walk over and grab it.

Yellow Key Hunt

With the red key you can quickly go to the red doors you remember seeing from earlier; there should be a whole lot less of them than the green or blue doors. While you are trying to find this, keep in mind how many yellow doors you see.

Boss Room Hunt

Once either you or someone else has found the yellow key, there is probably a person waiting by a yellow door to open it. Be sure to teleport to them quickly to get the easiest damage in on the boss. If there are 2 different yellow rooms then this room is good to run to for Ghost Pirate rum (great for soloing). Reminder that the boss room can only be entered from the bottom, so look for rooms that would have enough space to be entered from that direction.

Boss

Davy Jones

Davy Jones

If in a group

If you are either in a group filled with strong people or in a big group, then it is usually best if they spread out in the boss room immediately. Melee classes should enter the room and go to the back corners to take care of the back lanterns while everyone else takes care of the front 4 lanterns. This will light the lanterns much quicker then everyone staying in a group and wasting shots on lit lanterns. After you have lit all of the lanterns, you will have about 2 whole seconds to do damage to Davy Jones before the lanterns explode, firing shots that deal massive damage and inflict Paralyzed Icon Paralyzed. When the lanterns explode, Davy Jones will become invincible again before going into a ghastly mode, much like that of the Kage Kami. He will then start shooting whoever is unfortunate enough to be close to him, dealing heavy damage and heavy bleeding. (If you happen to be in a really really weak group, refer to the soloing tips.) Stay away from the lanterns and those paralyze shots!

Soloing tips

This is usually if you are maxed and you want to solo, but there are other unfortunate circumstances where you would have to solo this fight. If you are planning to solo, then it might be helpful to go out of your way to clear rooms of enemies in search of Ghost Rums. The lanterns are set up similarly to the Pentaract Towers and can therefore be dealt with similarly; weaken, but do not activate each of the lanterns, so that you can eventually activate all of them in less than 10 seconds apart in order to prevent one of the lanterns from dimming and forcing you to relight every single lantern. Once Davy Jones is vulnerable, spam all of your abilities for those few seconds of vulnerability. Then when he turns to his ghastly phase, use any Ghost Rum you might have and get out of the room, then walk back in and repeat the process. Just know that when Davy Jones’s health is low, then he will spawn Ghost Pirate Srs, which can deal heavy damage. Avoid them if you can, but know that the lanterns and him are the only way you can stop them from attacking you. Once you have won, take your loot and leave, because minions will continue spawning.

Treasure Room

Sunken Treasure

Sunken Treasure

Fittingly for the dungeon, there are multiple chances for there to be a treasure room, specifically up to 5 rooms. The room will have no differences from all the other rooms other than a Sunken Treasure lying in the back of the room. The room in which the Sunken Treasure can be found is one that does not contain a key, making it more difficult to find, as it could be in any room. The Sunken Treasure is a simple golden chest that spawns Lost Souls upon half health, so be careful when destroying it. The Sunken Treasure drops about the same loot as Davy Jones himself and can be considered extra. If you do find it, it’s nice loot, but you might not want to go out of your way to find it, especially since treasure rooms are not guaranteed.

Overview

Davy Jones’ Locker is a difficult midgame dungeon dropping from a difficult event boss, with somewhat lackluster rewards barring the prism and a small source of Potions of Wisdom and Attack. Treasure Rooms can be difficult to find, but they can also compensate for any lack of good loot that the boss drops. The boss himself is fairly doable in a group, but can be much harder to deal with when solo.
