Using the Adobe Flash Projector to play RotMG (Rev. 2)

As an alternative to using a web browser or the Steam client, you can use the stand-alone version of Adobe Flash Player to play Realm of the Mad God. This page will guide you through the process of setting this up.

(1) Download and install the Adobe Flash projector

Go to Adobe's support website and download the most recent release of the Adobe Flash Player Projector for your system (Windows, Macintosh, or Linux). Currently, the most recent release for Windows and Macintosh is version 11.8 and the most recent Linux release is version 11.2. Follow the instructions from Adobe to install the software. For Windows machines the file is a .exe and needs no installation.

While other Flash Projectors exist, there is no guarantee that they either work or are safe. If someone links you to a projector and the link is pointing anywhere else other than a page on adobe.com, you should not click the link and assume they are attempting to have you install malicious software.

(2) Find the current location of RotMG

For Release 17.4 the link you will need is:

http://www.realmofthemadgod.com/AGCLoader1383760258.swf

If this link or the link you are currently using stops working you will need to find the new active link to the game. An easy way to do this in Firefox is the following:

  1. Navigate to the browser client at realmofthemadgod.com
  2. Right click outside of the game client and select "View Page Info"
  3. This will bring up a window looking something like: In this window click on "Media". Under the "Address" column there should be a url ending in AGCloader followed by a string of numbers and .swf Copy this address to your clipboard and proceed to the next step.

(3) Point your flash projector to the game

Open your flash projector and in the top left corner click on "File" and then "Open".

This will bring up a window asking you to provide either a URL or destination for a local file. In the empty "Location" box paste the game link from the previous step.

Press "Ok" and the game should load.

If the projector just returns to an empty white screen after pressing OK then you gave it either an invalid or outdated link to the game. Refer back to the previous step for instructions on finding the current link.

(4) Create a projector for Realm of the Mad God

NOTE: IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO CREATE A PROJECTOR WITH Windows Flash Player 11.5 Projector. YOU WILL HAVE TO CLICK ON File THEN CLICK ON THE SAVED LINK (below Create Projector) TO LOAD THE GAME.

Once you've got the game running open the File menu and click on "Create Projector...". A window will pop up and you can name and select a location to save a .exe file. After creating the .exe you can then simply double-click on it and the Flash player will open with the game already loaded.

Note this .exe will only work while the address you used for the game is still valid. After a build update you will need to repeat steps (2) through (4) to make a new projector.

That's it! Enjoy playing Realm of the Mad God!

NOTE: In some other browsers, probably even Firefox, you have to do a lot more to find the location of RotMG. For Google Chrome, right- click on the outside of the flash game, click "View Page source". Now, press "ctrl+f" and type in "swf" in the box that pops up.

You may have to go to more results of "swf" in there.
But, eventually, you will get to this part where inside some quotation marks, there will be "AGCLoader" then a whole bunch of numbers, then .swf

Copy that (ctrl+c)

Paste that on the end of "http://www.realmofthemadgod.com/" like so:
http://www.realmofthemadgod.com/AGCLoader1377730546.swf <-- for Build 16.2.0

When you use Flash Projector, Ctrl + Alt + Del to open task manager, then set priority of the projector to High, that should fix lagspikes.
