The Carboniferous is a Veteran biome found in the uppermost half of the Realm.
The biome features mossy green coal forests littered with vascular shrubs, ferns, and ancient trees. It is home to overgrown arthropods, carnivorous plants, and other prehistoric life. The enemies within this biome are a rich source of Potions of Vitality, Wisdom, Speed, Dexterity, Defense, and Mana, and can drop a large selection of different Dungeons.
The Evolutionary Records can be obtained from any of the Carboniferous’ enemies at a very low chance.

Be very careful while clearing and especially while rushing through the Carboniferous. While the common enemies in this biome inflict very few status effects, none of which hinder mobility (Mantises inflict Exposed, while Flytraps and Sting Spiders inflict Bleeding), they specialize in overwhelming players with very high damage and shot density.
It is recommended to use a ranged class if intending to farm the enemies in this biome, as most Carboniferous enemies are deadly at close range. Abilities that inflict Paralyze or Slow are useful in keeping the more mobile enemies at range.
Be especially wary of Hunter Dragonflies and Scutosauruses, as they will most likely instantly kill, if not severely cripple even maxed melee classes who they manage to rush on top of. It is helpful to constantly check the minimap and watch your back for nearby enemies while moving, especially when kiting any chasing enemy, lest you unknowingly back up into one of these enemies.
Enabling enemy healthbars is helpful as Man-Eating Flytraps and Colossal Mantises are a similar color as the background grass and can be difficult to detect. Many Flytraps in close proximity to each other can prove to be deadly, as the damage from their shotgun attacks and converging shots can result in unexpectedly massive damage if a player is hit by a few of them at once.
As with other Veteran biomes, it is heavily advised to clear the area around an encounter or Critter Brood setpiece prior to fighting the boss, as a stray enemy shotgun can spell a quick and unexpected death.
The Carboniferous is based on the geologic period of the same name, characterized by the presence of vast coal forests home to mossy vegetation and exceptionally large arthropods.
