The easiest way to kill these guys is to backpedal while attacking at them as soon as them come into view. They will try to predict your movement, so make sure you time correctly if you want to strafe without getting hit. A useful tactic in the Abyss is to hide in the front corners of rooms if there are monsters in the next room. This allows you to run to the opening of the next room, attack, then move back to safety, as well as allowing time to regen.
