Thessal the Mermaid Goddess is the boss of the Ocean Trench. The boss room has 4 air sources, are protected by a respawning Deep Sea Beast. If you are low hp, try to stay away from these as long as possible. Thessal will throw coral bombs that explode and split into 5 more bombs that explode to inflict more damage. This, combined with her armor breaking attacks, can make this fight a painful one.

Level 20 Quest
Occasionally and purely randomly, when Thessal is killed she will crumble over the loot bag and ask, “Is King Alexander alive?” If you respond with “He lives and reigns and conquers the world,” she will say “Thank you, kind sailor” and spawn 3 coral gifts. Otherwise, after a few seconds, she’ll shout “You speak LIES!” and suddenly attack. If you are standing on her (not smart), this will be instant death. Period.

As of Build 9, Treasure was added to the drop table. Its uses and types are currently unknown. Thessal drops the Huntress Coral Set.
If you have a small group or if you expect the fight to last a long time, it can be helpful to clear the room right before Thessal’s so that you have access to an air vent that is not guarded by Deep Sea Beasts. This also prevents unwanted confuse or paralyze enemies joining the fight.
When in combat, do not hug Thessal, because she will sometimes move forwards very fast and instantly let loose a huge circle of shots. If you are hugging her, you won’t have time to back away, and her shots will do massive damage, which could lead to an insta-kill.
Thessal The Mermaid Goddess is based on the greek legend of Thessalonike:
There exists a popular Greek legend which talks about a mermaid who lived in the Aegean for hundreds of years who was thought to be Thessalonike. The legend states that Alexander, in his quest for the Fountain of Immortality, retrieved with great exertion a flask of immortal water with which he bathed his sister’s hair. When Alexander died his grief-stricken sister attempted to end her life by jumping into the sea. Instead of drowning, however, she became a mermaid passing judgment on mariners throughout the centuries and across the seven seas. To the sailors who encountered her she would always pose the same question: “Is Alexander the king alive?” (Greek: Ζει ο βασιλιάς Αλέξανδρος;), to which the correct answer would be “He lives and reigns and conquers the world” (Greek: Ζει και βασιλεύει, και τον κόσμο κυριεύει!). Given this answer she would allow the ship and her crew to sail safely away in calm seas. Any other answer would transform her into the raging Gorgon, bent on sending the ship and every sailor on board to the bottom.
